Draconic King of Shadows-Chapter 96: Legacy of Moon, Blood and Shadow
Damion’s gaze shifted to the last and latest Shadow Puppet.
The purple, red and blue electric currents sparking around it were proof enough of who it once was.
The Shadow Puppet retained the Blood Lightning and Moon Lightning Kaiden once controlled, and it had gained another unique Lightning... Shadow Lightning.
Damion was surprised by this. He didn’t even know there were types of Lightning, until he saw Kaiden manifest red lightning bolts.
With the Blessing of Knowledge and Luck, he was able to learn the names of the types of Lightning Kaiden had access to.
Moon Lightning was the unique blue Lightning the Volt household had access to. It wasn’t powerful when compared to other Lightning types, but it excelled in one area, which was boosting the user’s agility to extreme levels.
The second Lightning type was the red Lightning, also known as Blood Lightning.
Blood Lightning was amongst the rarest types of Lightning, and it only appeared once in a thousand years.
Its unique ability to strike a target from the inside out was terrifying, making it one of the most dangerous Lightning types to exist.
If used properly, the target would die a painful death in seconds, unable to do anything about it. But just like all powerful abilities, it came with a drawback.
Blood Lightning didn’t draw its energy just from Mana, it also siphoned the user’s blood energy and life force, draining them slowly.
Kaiden hadn’t used the lightning much during their fight. Perhaps he wasn’t skilled in using it, as he had only discovered it at death’s door.
Damion had defeated him anyway, Blood Lightning or not.
Damion’s intent focused on the third Lightning, the Shadow Lightning.
This purple Lightning was unique to a set of beings Damion wasn’t privileged to know, yet. The Lightning’s uniqueness was in its ability to wound a target if their shadow was hit.
Dodging it was meaningless if your shadow was hit, as it would inflict the same amount of damage, and under certain circumstances, more.
Another thing that made it one of the strongest Lightning types was its ability to bypass defences and hit the target, that is, if it hit the target’s shadow and not their body.
The target could be wearing defensive armor that was resistant to Lightning, but if the target’s shadow was hit, it would be as if the armor was never there.
Damion explored more of his Shadow Puppets abilities, and he discovered some things he could put to good use.
A few moments later, he paused, staring at the kneeling Shadow Puppets.
"I should name them," Damion voiced out, scratching his chin in thought. "Names that would reflect their shadowy origins, and their different abilities at the same time.
Damion began racking his brain, fusing and separating words to form something meaningful and grand at the same time.
It took him a full minute, before he gave up and chose random names he had come up with.
"Venara, Lioran and Voltshade..." he said, standing at his feet. "Those are your names."
Damion looked over to Kenzo and Matilda, then beamed them a bright smile.
Kenzo scoffed, and Matilda smiled.
The three Shadow Puppets vanished into Damion’s storage with a flick of his wrist, and he moved to exit the crater.
His muscles flexed, and when he reached the slope of the crater, he jumped, ascending half of it in one bound.
Another jump sent him higher, and he grabbed the edge, dirt falling from it, but his grip solid as he pulled himself up.
Damion looked at Kenzo’s sword sheath, seeing the blade rattling in it and threatening to fly out. A knowing smile spread across his cheeks, but Kenzo only turned around and began walking away.
Matilda’s smile widened, and she moved forward to hug Damion.
She blushed slightly when she felt his strong arms wrap around her waist, but she relaxed, feeling safe.
A few moments later they separated, and Damion offered her a hand, helping her up the Wolf Shadow Puppet he decided to name, Blackhowl.
Blackhowl was three meters tall, with a length of four meters, excluding its one-and-half-meter-long tail. It had great strength in its body, and could easily carry all three of them, but Damion let Matilda ride alone.
They caught up with Kenzo, and walked back towards the base together.
They had a lot of questions to ask themselves, and Matilda didn’t hesitate to begin asking.
She began with the mystery of Nyx, where he had come from and how Damion had bound him.
Damion replied truthfully this time, because he could trust them both.
He further explained the situation he was placed in, due to him being the Heir of Vorgath, and why he had killed Toby, Aspasia and Kaiden.
It all sounded weird to them, especially Nyx’s story, but they believed him.
Matilda moved on to another question, resulting in Damion revealing more of his powers.
Matilda nodded in understanding, feeling the new power coursing through her.
Surprisingly, Kenzo was no different. His power had increased too after Damion’s evolution, letting him access a part of his Draconic powers without losing himself.
If he transformed fully, he would be unable to retain his reasoning, but in his partially transformed state, he gained the benefits of both forms.
Matilda didn’t know how much change Damion’s evolution had granted her, but she knew it was great for her to have healed from her injuries in a short time.
Damion gave more info than he knew he had, and after twenty minutes of walking, they sighted the base through the thicket in the distance.
They continued talking through their mental link though, sharing information and whatnot.
At some point, Damion asked Kenzo about his partner, Emily.
He explained that she had run off to do her thing, after they defeated their target, leaving Kenzo alone.
It wasn’t a surprise to Damion, but he felt something was off.
Ever since his Luck stat had improved, his intuition and danger sense had gotten stronger.
Emily might seem innocent on the outside, and was only a petty bully, but Damion knew that it was merely a front hiding something more sinister.
Damion wrapped up his thoughts as they closed in on the base, focusing on the open part of the wall before them.
They had all confirmed the completion of their mission through the maps given to them, so they had all rights to return just like Captain Shodan said.
However, what they never expected was to walk into the base and witness something that made them shudder, and their eyes to widen.
