Chapter 8 - Intrest

"I'm sorry, but I have a few questions concerning this incident that I'd like to ask you," Lilia said, her eyes staring at him intently, as though observing his every reaction.

Knowing he had no other option but to oblige, since he didn't want to get on the bad side of the Phoenix Guild, Liam nodded his head. "Sure, go ahead."

Lilia's expression turned serious, her eyes narrowing slightly. "How did you locate the dungeon and end up in it?" she questioned, watching him for even the slightest flinch.

Liam knew he had to provide precise information, but he felt a pang of hesitation. He didn't want to reveal the part about following the mysterious light, so he decided to modify his story. "I was on my way back from shopping when I heard a strange noise coming from the alley. I decided to check it out, and that's when I stumbled into the dungeon," Liam replied, trying to sound as casual as possible.

Lilia's gaze lingered on him, as if searching for any signs of deception. After a moment, she nodded thoughtfully. "I see. And can you tell me what happened once you were inside the dungeon?"

Liam took a slight pause before replying, "Well, my system began warning me about the immense power gap between me and the dungeon's inhabitants, but I decided to explore a bit before using a Return Stone I had." Liam's eyes met Lilia's, noticing that she was scrutinizing his attire.

Lilia's gaze swept over Liam's hunting gear, taking in the weak quality of his equipment. However, her eyes lingered on his dagger, its craftsmanship and quality standing out amidst the rest of his gear.

"I was preparing for my trip to Siiren Academy before the incident occurred," Liam mentioned, noticing Lilia's watchful eyes. She nodded her head thoughtfully.

'That explains it...' Lilia thought to herself, recalling the notorious welcome ceremony at Siiren Academy. She had been a student there herself, and she knew firsthand how brutal the initiation could be. The fact that Liam was headed there explained his possession of a Return Stone and his relatively weak equipment.

'...But his presence feels like I'm standing before a veteran hunter,' Lilia thought, her eyes narrowing as she stared at Liam. Despite his impossible-to-read expression, she sensed an aura of quiet confidence and battle-hardened experience that belied his youth. 'Even though his magical energy is low,' she added mentally, her gaze lingering on Liam's calm demeanor.

'The real reason why the guild head sent me here was to investigate who had defeated a strange dungeon with A+ magical energies sensed in it,' Lilia reflected, her mind racing with possibilities. 'But it seems like he barely escaped... though I feel like there's more to what he's letting on.' Her eyes sparkled with curiosity as she continued to observe Liam, searching for any cracks in his stoic facade that might reveal the truth behind his enigmatic smile.

"Well, if that's all, I'd like to take my leave," Liam suggested, pocketing his dagger and turning to depart. However, his exit was abruptly halted when a firm hand grasped his arm.

"We're not done with you—" The man standing behind Lilia, who had been silent until then, began to say, but his words were cut off when Liam turned back to face him.

Liam's expression had transformed into one of dread, and an imposing aura now surrounded him. His eyes seemed to bore into the man, causing him to flinch.

'What the hell? But I'm sure I'm stronger than him!' The man yelled inwardly, taken aback by Liam's sudden intensity.

Liam's voice, however, remained calm and laced with sarcasm. "Oh? I didn't know that."

Lilia's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with new questions. She was now certain that Liam wasn't like other kids his age. There was something distinctly different about him, something that set him apart.

"Ah, it's okay... um, I was wondering if I could get your contact?" Lilia asked, attempting to compose herself. She was determined to recruit Liam, sensing that he had the potential to become a genius hunter of the next generation.

Liam, however, was hesitant to commit. "Sorry, I don't have a phone," he lied, knowing that sharing his contact information would only lead to relentless pursuit by the Phoenix Guild.

Lilia's smile never wavered. "Oh, I see... I have a firm belief we'll see each other very soon." She nodded politely before turning to leave, the man who had grabbed Liam earlier following closely behind.

As they disappeared into the crowd, Liam let out a sigh of relief. "Phew~ Dodged a bullet there," he mumbled to himself, quickening his pace as he made his way home.

[Three day's later]

"Wait are you sure you're Liam?" A pink haired girl questioned with disbelief as she stood before a smooth black haired tall boy with hair covering some of his eyes, he was handsome and had tone muscles each fat in the appropriate places and in proption.

"Wait, are you sure you're Liam?" A pink-haired girl asked, her eyes wide with disbelief. She stood before a tall, handsome boy with smooth black hair that fell across his eyes. His toned muscles were perfectly proportioned, leaving her stunned.

She reached out to touch his arm, her fingers tracing the contours of his bicep. "Are you sure you didn't get some kind of surgery?" she asked, her face flushing red as she circled around him.

Liam chuckled. "Come on, Akira, you know I don't have the money for that." He smiled good-naturedly, tolerating her scrutiny.

"Well, it's just hard to believe, and on top of that, you still want to become a mage with a body like this?" Akira asked, her gaze questioning Liam's intelligence.

Liam shrugged. "I scored a 99% magic aptitude, so it's only right I pursue what I'm perfect at." He lay back on his bed, lost in thought.

Akira's eyes narrowed. "What are you thinking about? Him?" Liam's silence was all the confirmation she needed. "I don't know what to say, but try not to think about it too much. You'll know what to do when you meet," Akira said softly, sitting beside Liam on the bed.
