Dragon Necromancer: Starting With First Dragon Bloodline-Chapter 33: Unlucky
The air was already thick with tension.
But that couldn’t stop it from growing even heavier, especially when Noa made a bold declaration.
For one, he was proud.
Claiming he was better than every other tamer? That felt like going too far.
Applicants scowled at him.
Some did it verbally, while others just glared at him silently.
But the mood changed even more when he asked Irina where his dorm was located and when the studies would begin.
The way he worded the question...
The way he held himself high...
Everything about him showed his confidence, and having the infamous weakest creature at his side didn’t seem to faze him at all.
He was so sure of himself that he already believed the academy had accepted him.
Did he care, or at least pretend to care, about so-called limited talent and potential?
The answer was clearly no.
That’s what irked others—his attitude despite being fated to be a bottom-tier, his nerve not only to apply for this prestigious academy but also to speak this way.
Some laughed at him, believing he was an idiot for acting this way.
Some ignored him completely, thinking he would face reality sooner rather than later.
However, Irina didn’t seem to mind his words.
Her green, icy eyes deepened with curiosity, and no one could tell what went through her head.
Still—
One thing was obvious.
She had no intention of changing her mind, especially when some no-name boy said that.
Yes, she was intrigued by him.
But that was it.
"Everyone who scored above 25 passes. You may go to the second floor, and other teachers will guide you to the dormitory. As for the classes..." she paused, glancing at the youngsters before her.
"They will start tomorrow morning. And I am sure some of you will give up or be expelled shortly after."
Gulps.
The air turned cold.
The emerald flame that burned around her didn’t just raise the temperature—it could also plummet it just as easily.
Noa’s question was answered.
It meant he wasn’t suspended because of the Graveworm.
Yet some of the heated students were eager to see him fail the next day.
"We... We did it!" Thalia exclaimed, and when her emotions erupted, she embraced Noa tightly, causing more than one pair of eyes to look at him with jealousy.
"Yeah," Noa muttered. "We did it."
Then, as if remembering something, his brows lowered, his eyes narrowing. "What about the bet? Who won?"
Thalia’s cheeks puffed in disappointment.
It was clear she wanted to be the winner, but because of the last question, she was about to lose one wish.
But—
Just like before, a sudden idea flashed into her head.
"How about we each owe the other a single favor? That sounds fair... right?" she sounded restless, now her cheeks flushing red in embarrassment.
Noa nodded at her. "What do you want? Out with it! What is your demand?"
She, however, lowered her head. As she blushed even more, a hushed whisper barely escaped her lips. "I-I will tell you later. It’s too early for that?"
’What the hell is she talking about?’ Noa thought, noticing her unusual reactions.
He also had nothing he wanted her to do at the moment.
So they quickly agreed to save the wishes for later and followed the other students toward the staircase.
The woman stood in the hallway.
She was observing their departure as her mouth curled into a flashy smile.
’I am looking forward to tomorrow. This year’s students are going to be interesting,’ she thought and turned around, vanishing into her wildfire.
Noa, meanwhile, ignored the part of the world that didn’t include the academy and Thalia.
He walked upstairs with his eyes wide open.
As a novelkiss enthusiast from Earth, attending the prominent magical academy felt like a dream come true.
He had read countless adventures where the main characters had to go through endless trials in their respective worlds.
Now it was his time to bask in these awesome sensations.
The drama, the young masters, the unnecessary fights, and countless hours of studying and practice—all of it was now within his reach.
His dream had been realized, and even Thalia could tell how excited he was.
She, too, couldn’t contain herself.
And with each step she took, her heart raced even faster.
That’s why she found the courage to slide her arm through his and walk beside him.
"Tsk. I never wanted to punch someone this hard," Marlo, the short boy with green eyes, muttered, glaring at Noa.
Then he held his breath and lowered his voice and head, speaking to Thalia for the very first time.
"D-Do you have any girlfriends you can introduce me to?"
Noa shook his head.
Realizing that this fellow had only one thing on his mind, Noa vowed to himself to find better people to befriend and ignored the boy altogether.
As for his maid, Thalia was too occupied to care about Marlo.
She didn’t even hear his question, causing the boy to sigh once more.
After all the walking, they finally reached the second floor, which opened into a vast, circular hall etched with white, shiny sigils.
A crystal chandelier hung above, giving the room a strong, almost living pressure.
The moment Noa stepped in, two instructors with blue robes closed in, holding clipboards with their names imprinted on them.
They said nothing.
Not even a word to acknowledge their presence was wasted.
They just went straight to the point and grouped them with perfect efficiency. "Girls to the west wing. Boys to the east. Your housing will be random," a man with a mustache announced.
The crowd began splintering apart.
Before moving to the corridor the man pointed him to, Noa slowed and glanced at Thalia.
"I guess this is where we part our ways," he said.
She didn’t look thrilled. Her fingers clutched his sleeve just a bit longer, refusing to let go of him.
Either it was because she didn’t want to leave him unattended.
Or she was just afraid of being alone in this unfamiliar place.
"Don’t worry," he said, not breaking eye contact with her. "I will see you in a bit. We got this, right?"
Thalia nodded.
She didn’t want to, but reluctantly stepped forward towards the west wing.
Noa turned around and followed the boys heading to the eastern corridor, his steps quicker than usual.
A minute later, he found the door labeled R-11.
But as he was about to open it, Marlo bumped into him, grinning like fate had favored him.
’Shit,’ Noa blinked, hoping he would get the chance to beat this guy in a practice match.
