Drunk on Marriage, Billionaire's Overindulgent Love-Chapter 858 - 328: [Heartbroken Fairy Tale] Fleeting Shadows (Part 3)_4
Lu Huai’an’s lean arm wrapped around the girl’s waist, pulling her into his embrace before he raised his head to look at Lu Mingchuan two steps away.
One person was indifferent and calm, the other warm and amused.
Their gazes met in the air, outwardly calm, but underneath, a storm was brewing.
The first to speak was Lu Huai’an, "It’s getting late. We should stop bothering our older brother and let him rest."
Lu Mingchuan nodded, his gaze shifting to Lin Chu with a gentle expression. "Be careful on the road. The weather forecast says it might rain tonight."
An City might be in for a change of weather.
...
Lu Huai’an had been drinking and didn’t bring his secretary, so Lin Chu was driving.
Their conversation throughout the drive went like this.
"Lu Huai’an, there’s an intersection up ahead. Which way should I go? Everything looks familiar, but I can’t remember."
"Turn on the navigation. Drive wherever it tells you to."
"The navigation isn’t reliable, and I prefer using live directions."
"...Turn left."
Ten minutes later.
"Lu Huai’an, are you asleep? When you usually drive, I keep you company by chatting. So you can’t sleep; I’ll get bored by myself."
"Shut up."
"Why are you complaining again? Other people beg me to talk, and I don’t even give them a glance. You don’t appreciate what you have."
"Watch the road. If my car gets scratched..."
There was a strong sense of threat.
Lin Chu snorted disdainfully, "It’s just a car. If it gets scratched or dented, I can pay for it."
"It’s a limited edition. Even if you had the money, you couldn’t pay for it."
"..."
How boring! Truly boring!

It rained all night, and the entire city seemed to have been washed clean.
When you open the window, you can smell the fresh scent of grass. Winter came too quickly, and there’s a chill in the air.
This morning, Lin Chu wasn’t just being lazy; her menstrual cycle had arrived, and maybe because she caught a chill, it hurt more than usual.
Clutching her stomach, she nestled in bed, her face pale as a sheet. Moving even a little felt like a thousand-pound hammer was tugging at her abdomen.
It used to hurt before, but never as fiercely as this time.
Lin Chu heard the bathroom door open, but she couldn’t even open her eyes, let alone get out of bed.
"Mr. Lu, can I take a day off?"
Her weak voice was drawn out, sounding pitiful.
Lu Huai’an had just finished showering, his short hair still dripping. He draped the towel over his shoulder and sat on the edge of the bed.
Looking at the small bundle huddled under the covers, his eyebrows furrowed deeply.
His long fingers pulled out her pale face from the bedding and asked in a deep voice, "Is it very painful?"
Lin Chu leaned closer to the man, her voice growing fainter, "Yes, I can’t move. I can’t do errands for you. Mr. Lu, could you give me a break?"
The Lu Family had a rule that all employees must apply for leave one day in advance.
Her period had arrived in the early morning. Who would have the energy to send a leave request email at that hour?
Lu Huai’an looked down at the small bundle nestled in his arms, his face expressionless. "Alright, stop pretending. You don’t have to go to work. Rest at home."
Her poor acting skills were exposed, but Lin Chu didn’t feel her pride was hurt at all; after all, it was Lu Huai’an.
The pain was real, but not to the extent that she couldn’t move.
She got up and pecked a kiss on the man’s chin, playfully winking, "You’re so sweet, hubby."
Her obedient and gentle demeanor lasted only a few seconds before she lay back down on the bed, waving her hand like a queen, "You may leave. I want to sleep a little longer, skip breakfast."
Lu Huai’an didn’t try to pull her up.
Her act of being pitiful was fake, but her pale face was real.
Lin Chu lay on her side with her back to the door. There were sounds of movement behind her, likely Lu Huai’an changing clothes.
When he left the room and the door closed, silence filled the bedroom.
Because of menstrual cramps, she hadn’t had much sleep all night.
Even though she was extremely sleepy, the dragging pain in her abdomen made it difficult to fall into a deep sleep. Perhaps the heavy rain had increased the humidity, her left wrist also throbbed faintly.
When she got injured back then, the Ji Family’s doctor had advised that if she didn’t take careful rest, minor injuries could turn into torturous pain that would keep her awake at night.
In hindsight, the elder’s words held true wisdom.
...
Lin Chu felt weak all over, just wanting to lie down and relax.
Even without sleep, keeping her eyes closed was more comfortable than sitting or standing.
The weather outside was gloomy; even at six or seven o’clock, it looked like dusk. When Lu Huai’an left, he turned off the lights, leaving the room dim.
Lying in a blanket on a rainy day is truly an enjoyment.
Of course, it would be even better without the visit of a period or if Mr. Lu were a bit gentler and more considerate.
"Buzz... Buzz... Buzz..."
The sound of a vibrating phone.
Without opening her eyes, Lin Chu reached out to the side table, feeling around for a while before finding her phone.
Seeing the caller ID on the screen brought some clarity to her foggy brain, "Hello?"
It was Ji Wanxia calling.
Lin Chu couldn’t hide things well; she was afraid she’d slip up, so since the incident with Gao Jian, she hadn’t taken the initiative to contact Ji Wanxia.
"Xiao Chu, have you started your day yet?"
"Not yet, my period’s here, so I’m still lying in bed."
"It’s nothing urgent, just that I’ve had this strange feeling lately. I can’t really explain it, but it makes me anxious."
Hearing Ji Wanxia’s words, Lin Chu’s heart skipped a beat.
Her grip on the phone tightened involuntarily, revealing her tension.
She forced a smile, trying to make her voice sound normal, "It’s the 21st century, a scientific society; let’s not be superstitious."
On the other end, Ji Wanxia was somewhat lost. The shattered pieces on the floor were from the fourth cup she’d broken in recent days.
She rarely called her brother, even when longing for him deeply, but she didn’t dare get too close.
Grandpa seemed very busy; each call lasted only ten minutes or so. Many times, her words remained unfinished as he hurriedly hung up.
"Maybe I’m just overthinking, but I’m still worried. Can you visit the Ji Family and check on Grandpa when you have time?"
Lin Chu readily agreed, "Sure, once I’m lively and running around, I’ll go. Don’t scare yourself all day; Grandpa’s health is pretty good, though elderly folks often have minor ailments, those are usually not major issues."
She lied.
With her eyes closed, she prayed she wouldn’t be found out.
Whether it was God’s will or her lying skills honed under Lu Huai’an’s tutelage, Ji Wanxia seemed not to have noticed.
"Okay, I understand. No rush, go when you feel better."
"Alright."
