Duality of Shadows-Chapter 974: Faint Smiles
At that moment, a feminine voice echoed in lamentation. Soon after, the woman’s head fell to the ground, and her body collapsed. Meru had fought her for a bit, wounding her slowly; but upon noticing the battle was about to shift, she killed her quickly and jumped over to her father. Revhka had taught her how to fight and remain aware of everything around her. However, Meru had already avenged herself and eased some of her anger.
The next moment, all the survivors seemed to be possessed by the purple power. Their eyes changed, and their bodies radiated a unique light.
Meru hopped onto the whale’s shoulder as hundreds of them attacked all at once. The whale casually swung his saber.
*Boom!*
The enemies quickly combined their forces to defend, but... the clan leader’s eyes widened, and his jaw dropped. Their physical bodies couldn’t withstand the impact and were instantly blown to pieces.
The spectators off the planet were completely stunned. That clan, one of the seven strongest in the universe, was just obliterated? By two people, and in mere minutes...
They couldn’t believe what they were witnessing. Even a demon sighed, commenting, "He’s not some bloodthirsty lunatic... Thankfully, he warned us before attacking. Otherwise, if we’d been even a little late, we’d all have been reduced to dust."
On the planet, only one old, bloodied figure remained: the clan leader.
"Now you feel fear? Why didn’t you feel fear when you defied the heavens, causing the deaths of all those innocent cultivators?" Meru’s words, spoken from the whale’s shoulder, reignited her fury as she looked into the terrified gaze of the old man.
The saber slashed toward the ground. The old man tried using his sphere to defend, but blood sprayed from his body as a cut ran from his shoulder down to his right leg, sending him rolling across the dirt.
The whale walked toward him. Each step felt as if the entire planet trembled... or at least, that’s how the old man perceived it. The weight of that presence was indeed immense, and the trembling ground only amplified the impact!
Meru spoke slowly as they approached:
"Afraid now? Finally care about your life? So why didn’t you care about the lives of the innocent cultivators you sacrificed? They were full of hope and expectations for the future. They spent their life savings, and you sent them straight into the devil’s maw. So many of them were pure and kind..."
Alm and Bruno allowed her to vent her anger freely because the sphere in the old leader’s possession was precisely one of the cores they were seeking. However, there were others, and searching for them across the universe would take a lot of time.
As long as the old man lived with that sphere, he could rebuild everything. But they knew all of this wasn’t orchestrated solely by that clan. So, they proceeded cautiously, waiting...

Suddenly, the void trembled. Hundreds of flying ships stormed the planet at full speed, one after another. Immediately, thousands of powerful figures disembarked, fully armed and connected through war inscriptions.
"It’s the Bronze Bell Clan and the Celestial Eagle Clan!" the off-planet spectators exclaimed, shocked.
Reinforcements had arrived: two other powerful clans appeared to prevent the old man’s death.
The destruction of that clan wasn’t entirely bad for them. In fact, they came to ensure no one else claimed the old man’s sphere, the central power source of the destroyed clan. They had been the first to arrive because the leader had sent a distress signal to his allies. This meant they were aware of the dark deeds committed by that clan and had been directly aiding them.
The Bronze Bell Clan was composed of golems that seemed to be made of bronze. Although the universe lacked Qi, the laws of the planets’ earth provided enough energy to give them life.
This race should have been extremely rare in this universe. However, their unique bodies indicated that their home planet had a special bronze-colored law that allowed the creation of their forms using it. That was one of the laws they were seeking, and now, it had come to them.
Meanwhile, the Celestial Eagle Clan was made up of demonic beasts. In this universe without Qi, divine beasts didn’t exist, only demonic beasts that evolved by absorbing power from other life forms.
There were thirty-six thousand of them. Additionally, each clan had a leader carrying a sphere similar to the old man’s. These leaders had brought their cores, wary of the attacker who had destroyed that clan; but they were also aware that they’d eventually need to fight each other for the defeated clan’s core.
"Hahaha! Your death is near!" Seeing the reinforcements arrive, the old man, who had been terrified moments ago, regained his arrogance and began laughing.
The golem leader of the other clan stared at the whale and sneered, "Just these two? Well, it doesn’t matter. Let’s capture them. I have a method to gather all the treasures from his body. Let’s divide it fairly. Agreed?"
He spoke to the leader of the demonic beasts, who nodded curtly. At that moment, the human leader paled, realizing these two didn’t even consider him relevant anymore. Even if that round figure were killed, he and his clan’s treasure would be taken.
"Surrender without resistance. Maybe, in the end, we’ll decide not to kill you," the Eagle spoke to the whale and the little girl on his shoulder.
Then, the members of the two clans roared. Thirty-six thousand rays of light shot out like chains, aiming to trap the whale at unmatched speed. But...
The chains stopped mid-air, just inches from the whale, completely frozen.
"Is that so? Well, I’ll kill all of you." The whale spoke slowly, and everyone turned to look into his eyes, trembling as if they felt a terrible premonition.
Meru nodded, and her tattoos began to glow. In that moment, the old human started shaking, as a wave of power approached him. His expression twisted into terror, reluctance, and disbelief. In an instant, he exploded into a bloody mist without offering any resistance.
Meru gestured again, and a purple sphere floated toward her.
"Since you’ve come to hand everything over to me, I’ll gladly accept it," the whale said calmly to the two clans. "But don’t worry or get anxious, I’ll be visiting your clans too. My little girl loves seeing different places. Plus, she needs to practice with her sword. You’re truly kind for helping her train."
Everyone was petrified. Then, Meru let out a roar, and her tattoos pulsed intensely. "Feel the vengeance of the weak!"
The first attack on the planet had been carried out with the blood and unwilling sacrifice of those who had died. Their three vital energies had been stored, and now, Meru unleashed all of it without hesitation.
**RUMBLE!**
A wave of power exploded, spreading across the planet. From the outside, people watching saw it as if it were a massive firework display lighting up the sky and the earth. It looked glorious... but the colors were a mix of red and black: red from the blood of those on the battlefield.
Minutes later, everything fell silent.
When they could finally see the aftermath, out of the thirty-six thousand, nothing remained... not even their bodies. They had simply been erased.
Only those two were left. The off-planet spectators were pale, their eyes filled with fear.
The battle at that location had ended in such a way. The outcome was so devastating that those watching from afar froze in terror. Staring at the completely deformed terrain, they couldn’t utter a single word...
Suddenly, everyone let out cries of despair.
The round figure suddenly appeared near them, outside the planet. He was getting closer and closer, with an adorable little girl perched on his shoulder. Those two were staring at the crowd with faint smiles... but to everyone watching, those smiles were the most terrifying thing they’d ever seen.
