Ashton Marshall grasped Bella Woods’ exploring hand, holding her waist, and pressed her against his chest so that Bella’s face was almost touching his torso.
Bella was clearly uncomfortable in this position, and after some fussing, she finally settled down.
The room’s air conditioning was already low, and with Ashton’s body heat rising, Bella was sweating lightly, with her hot breaths faintly sprinkling onto his chest.
The air in the room became evidently thinner.
Ashton took a deep breath, lowered his head to kiss Bella’s forehead, grabbed a tissue to wipe the sweat off her back, and then cuddled her back to sleep.
A good night’s rest ensued.
At four o’clock in the morning, Bella’s phone alarm went off.
Ashton almost instinctively opened his eyes, and his first reaction was to cover the little one’s ears and stare at the phone lighting up on the bedside table.
He reached over to grab the phone and turned off the alarm.
He looked down at the person in his arms, who, even after the alarm rang for a while, still showed no response.
He glanced at Bella’s set alarms, starting from four in the morning, going off every half hour, and changing at six in the morning to six o’ five, six ten, six fifteen, six sixteen… until it ended at six twenty.
All in all, there were thirteen alarms.
“Nowadays, is this how kids set their alarms?”
Ashton looked down at Bella, who was still asleep without any reaction, and couldn’t help but laugh.
He turned off each alarm one by one.
“These alarms are useless, little one.”
Ashton placed the phone aside and wrapped his arms around Bella’s waist, turning their side embrace into a top-and-bottom position: “Let’s use a more effective ‘alarm clock.'”
With that, Ashton kissed Bella’s lips.
The hand that was originally wrapped around her waist slowly moved, his fingertips grazing Bella’s delicate skin, igniting countless naughty sparks with every inch they passed.
A sleepy Bella made a soft noise, her hand almost instinctively resting on Ashton’s shoulder.
The man moved upwards, capturing her lips.
In a passionate, unreserved manner.
When Bella woke up, she was still in a daze, her head passively bumping against the bedpost, and as she figured out what was happening, she was shocked.
“You, you… mmm…”
“Shh, it’s only five o’clock,” Ashton coaxed, “afterward, I’ll make you breakfast and take you to school.”
“How did you…” Bella was still puzzled.
But wave after wave of sensations muddled her logic, with sensory impacts being continually amplified.
All she could hear was the man’s gentle coaxing: “I’ll take you to school, you won’t be late, be good, I’ll personally drop you off, you won’t be late.”
Her hand almost instinctively clung, reaching the peak.
Early morning, five forty.
Bella stood at the sink in the guest bathroom, brushing her teeth.
In the mirror, the girl had tousled hair, the collar of her pajama top opened wide. From her collarbone to her chest, it was covered with kisses.
Her gaze was quite resentful.
Especially when she recalled her accusations afterward, but the man held her face and kissed her, saying…
“I promised you I’d sleep in the guest room, not that I wouldn’t sleep with you in the guest room.”
Even at this moment, Bella was at a loss for words.
She took a deep breath, quickly brushed her teeth, washed her face, pointed earnestly at the mirror, “Remember the ultimate goal, it’s all okay, everything is okay.”
Once the study abroad thing is over, everything will be over.
After all, it’s not like she didn’t enjoy it.
When Bella finished dressing and came out of the room, Ashton had already finished making breakfast.
“Come here.”
He gestured naturally for Bella to come over.
When Bella walked over, Ashton placed a hand on her waist and gently kneaded it, “Still uncomfortable?”
Bella immediately recalled that the previous position was a bit extreme, putting some strain on her waist.
“No, I’m fine.”
She quickly pushed Ashton away and stepped back, but couldn’t control the blush spreading across her cheeks.
Ashton knew the girl was shy, but since he had observed her walking normally, he didn’t say much.
The girl had a good temper, and while she could be restrained, if teased too much, she’d still get flustered.
Ashton pulled out a dining chair and placed a small cushion on the back: “Sit down and eat, I’ll take you to school.”
Bella nodded, obediently sat down, and started eating.
Ashton had made a Western-style breakfast: German white sausage sandwiches with some snacks and pure milk.
Bella quickly finished a large sandwich but didn’t touch the milk.
“I’m done,” she said, wiping her hands.
Ashton took a tissue and stood up to wipe her mouth.
Bella wanted to avoid him, but her reaction was a bit slow, so she couldn’t dodge in time.
“Not drinking the milk?” Ashton inquired.
“Allergic to milk,” Bella said casually.
But when Ashton’s probing eyes met hers, she immediately looked away.
Clinging to the milk allergy claim.
Ashton chuckled knowingly, got up, went to the kitchen, and poured Bella a glass of juice, along with a bottle of yogurt, which he placed in her backpack.
“Take it out later and drink it, don’t go hungry.”
He reached out to gently ruffle Bella’s hair.
Originally staring at the juice, Bella’s eyelids fluttered at his remark and reminder.
She quickly finished drinking, placing the empty glass on the table.
Ashton wiped her mouth with a tissue, then took her backpack with one hand and held Bella’s hand with the other: “Time to take you to school.”
Bella obediently let Ashton lead her to the underground garage.
When Bella saw the line of luxury cars in the garage, she was quite shocked.
The garage itself was absurdly large, multi-leveled, filled with various luxury cars that she both recognized and didn’t recognize.
And as Bella was led over to one car, her gaze swept over a blue-black sports car that seemed familiar, as if she’d seen it somewhere…
“Little Bella?”
Ashton’s call brought Bella’s attention back, and she sat in the passenger seat.
Still pondering the sports car she had just seen, Ashton’s handsome face suddenly appeared close to hers, startling Bella back against the seat.
“What are you doing?” she blurted out, “I-I’m running late for school today, I…”
Click.
The sound of the seat belt snapping interrupted Bella’s stammering words.
Ashton’s lips curled into a playful smile: “You what?”
“Nothing.” Bella hurriedly looked away.
Ashton gave her cheek a slight pinch and returned to close the car door and settle into the driver’s seat.
The rest of the ride was in silence.
When the car was two blocks away from the school, Bella asked Ashton to stop.
“It’s too ostentatious, people will take photos, post them online, and I’ll be talked about,” Bella quickly explained.
“I need to be at the company during the day, no time to come find you for lunch,” Ashton didn’t respond to her concerns, instead changing the topic: “Anything you’d like for dinner?”
“Anything’s fine.”
“Do you like beef, or do you prefer seafood?”
“Either is good.”
“How about papaya milk? The milk flavor isn’t strong,” Ashton considered.
Bella knew Ashton was aware that she was only claiming a milk allergy because she didn’t like it.
But she didn’t quite understand one thing…
“Why are you so insistent that I drink milk?”
No sooner had Bella said that than she felt Ashton’s gaze carried a weighty significance, his eyes initially focused on her face, then slowly trailing down…
