Chapter 61: Make It Official

Tristan said nothing, the kind of silence that descended upon the glass walls of the greenhouse could have drowned a whole army.

Eleanor’s veined fingers closed around the head of her cane even tighter. She knew everything she would say here today went against everything her grandson stands for, but it had to be done.

"Hmm, marriage. Is that what you want from me?" Tristan’s dark voice echoed the words like a calm negotiation.

"You are the heir I choose, naturally I want to be sure that you won’t kill the traditions of our family by omitting the vital step of having a wife." Eleanor replied.

A cold scoff escaped his rigid lips. Before he could say anything, his grandmother laid down all the terms.

"Think twice before you refuse my offer grandson. If you refuse this, your company will be scattered to the winds. Piece by piece, it will be absorbed into Blakewood Groups. The name Grayson will stand for nothing, it’ll be nothing but a footnote in Blakewood Groups annual report."

That caused his face to darken and his eyes to narrow.

Genevieve squeezed her fingers together hopefully. There seemed to be a tiny line left before Tristan would completely sever every tie with the Blakewood family. It would ruin everything if his rage blew up and he walked out of here tonight without accepting these terms. She quietly watched her brother with deep hope in her light green eyes.

"A pity grandma, my life will never be decided by someone else. I created Grayson Corp, I can make a hundred more."

Those words shattered the hope in Genevieve’s eyes.

The sharpness in Eleanor’s eyes dimmed.

Tristan’s eyes fell on Genevieve.

"I thought you were my only ally, guess I was wrong. Your loyalty lies elsewhere." His voice had lost the hardness when he spoke to his sister, the only person he was ever willing to be kind and warm to but now, it stung her deeply that he looked at her with such quiet fury that couldn’t be mistaken.

How hurt he must feel because of what she’s done?

His words caused a tightening ache to squeeze Genevieve’s heart. She watched her brother’s back with a broken expression before something suddenly spurned her forward and she ran to him grabbing his hand making him stop.

"Mom..." Genevieve quickly said before he could pry her fingers off where she held him. There was still hope in her eyes as she looked at him before she continued.

"Are you really letting go of the Grayson Corp just like that? It was for Mom wasn’t it?"

He released his hand from her grip slowly and began to walk away. Genevieve knew her older brother was the most stubborn person she was acquainted with in the whole world, but there was one weakness he could never turn his back on.

"You made a promise to Mom Tristan, do you really want to break that promise?" His steps automatically stopped.

"You were Mom’s hero Tristan, and you took her name so the whole world could utter it with respect. If Grayson Corp vanishes from the world, you’ll erase the legacy you wanted to uphold?"

As Eleanor saw that Tristan had stopped, her eyes lit up hopefully.

’Wonderful job, Eve. Good girl.’ she thought quietly to herself.

No one could truly get to the boy except his sister. If anyone else mentioned his mother they were desecrating her name, but it was sacred for him and his sister.

As Eleanor saw that Tristan was no longer moving, she placed the small red box she kept by her side on the table in front of her.

"All you have to do is simple Tristan, I won’t touch Grayson Corp if you fulfill my conditions."

Both women couldn’t see, but there were traces of tears in those sharp pair of hazel eyes that intimidated and frightened people.

But by the time he turned to them, the glistening liquid had completely disappeared.

Eleanor knew she had won the moment he began to walk back to her. She pointed to the small box and he picked it without hesitation, opening it up to reveal a beautiful engagement ring with a large dimond sitting atop it.

"Make it official, propose to Erica. Her devotion to you perfectly suits the qualities of the next Blakewood matriarch. Marry her, secure an heir and Grayson Corp is yours again."

He said nothing, just sealed the lid of the ring box closed, buried it into his pocket and turned to leave decisively.

It was ironic that the empire he had built to escape his own family was now the cage fashioned to bring him back home. His face had been like a quiet hurricane, but she knew he would give in to her demands now, and that was enough.

"Grandma, does he really have to marry Erica?" Genevieve asked quietly after watching her brother leave without talking to her.

"Miss Williams is the perfect fit. She has held him in her heart for years now, isn’t that what he needs, undying love?"

"Yes, but..." Genevieve kept what she wanted to say next to herself.

She had wanted to say that she met someone in Westwood, a woman who would be perfect for him.

She had soft blue eyes and she reminded her of their mother. A woman quietly strong and loving.

But she couldn’t say those words, not anymore. However, fate was a tricky thing wasn’t it...if destiny wanted it, perhaps he might meet her.

Genevieve kept this quiet wish in her heart.

....

Neville city airport.

Heavy rain shadowed the whole city. Natalia parked her car and grabbed an umbrella stepping out of the car into the airport. She stood religiously at the waiting area, craning her neck to be the first to spot the person she had been waiting for.

"Wow!" A guy about to take his tickets from the counter stopped short, his breath hitching as he sighted a dazzling woman. His friend immediately followed his gaze and his jaw parted as well.

"Is she a celebrity? She’s so beautiful."

This reaction from the two young men caused more people to turn in that direction to take a curious glance. The same expression of awe reflected in their eyes, their gazes uncontrollably glued to that figure.

They couldn’t tear their eyes away.
