Chapter 70: Playing House

"Leo, do you want to see what he looks like?" Leah had asked her brother several minutes ago while their Mommy was still in her room getting ready.

"What who looks like?" The boy asked, while his eyes were fixed onto the pamphlets his mother had kept on the table. Those pamphlets contained different schools in Neville and pictures of what those schools looked like.

"The man who doesn’t want us." Leah replied and this got Leo’s attention.

"I already know what he looks like." Leo replied then continued browsing through the sheets he held.

He still had the pictures he found online saved on his iPad.

"Mommy is going to be seeing him tonight. Don’t you want to find out why he doesn’t want us?" As Leah said this, her small face was suddenly shadowed in hints of sadness.

"Mommy said all parents love their children, do you think he might love us too?"

"How did you know that Mommy will be seeing him?" Leo suddenly asked this.

"I heard Mommy on the phone earlier."

Leah recalled overhearing her mother talking to someone.

’I want to know where he’s going to be tonight.’ she had said to someone over the phone and several minutes later that person seemed to have called her back.

’Paradise Hotels? What time?’

’Okay, I’ll be there.’

Leah guessed from Celine’s conversation that the "He" being referred to must surely be their father.

It took a little bit of convincing to get her brother to agree to her plans.

Immediately their mother left, Leo gave his sister a cryptic nod which was an indication that it was time.

Leah understood the message and immediately glanced at where Natalia was currently busy in the kitchen.

"Godmother, will you play with me, please?" Leah called in a sweet voice, smiling widely, her adorable dimples came visible.

There was a light of hope in her adorable blue eyes, that made Natalia instantly pause what she was doing.

"Of course cutie, what do you wanna play?" Natalia couldn’t resist such cuteness, especially when the little girl looked so hopeful, and those cute dimples, she would jump in a river if it would please the little girl.

"I wanna play house!" Leah yelled excitedly.

Natalia laughed, kids would always be kids, they loved to play house.

"Alright, I’ll play with you." Natalia agreed.

"Yay!" Leah celebrated looking so excited it made Natalia herself feel pumped to play a kids game, "Leo will play with us." Leah announced.

"Will he?" Natalia glanced at him doubtfully, though he was just a kid, he liked to act serious all the time that Natalia doubted if he actually played like other kids.

Leo stared at Natalia with a calm gaze as he indifferently replied, "Yes."

Natalia couldn’t help but be surprised that he actually agreed, she assumed he would much rather sit in a quiet spot reading business magazines all day, but since he had agreed to play, Natalia followed when little Leah dragged her along.

"Come on, come on godmother. Let’s go play."

The more time Natalia spent with these little angels, the more she found herself liking kids more and more. Especially these ones, special and smart as they were.

"What will I play as?" Natalia asked once they were seated in front of Leah’s large dollhouse.

"You’ll be the baby and I’ll be the Mommy." Leah explained in a cute voice as she gathered a mini tea set on a cute little table.

"Oh, shouldn’t I be Mommy?" Natalia asked feeling amused at how she was supposed to play a child.

"No, I’ll play Mommy." Leah said adamantly.

"But..." Natalia wanted to bring up a logical argument, but Leah looked up at her with strict eyes.

"Children should always listen to adults, you should obey what your Mommy says." Natalia stiffened as she realized that the kid had immediately gotten into character playing the mother already.

She held down a bout of laughter at the cute commanding little voice of the girl wondering when was the last time she had played house, probably when she was eight or nine was the last time and now, a twenty seven year old adult as she was would have to play the cute little child to an adorable but strict little Mommy, this should be fun.

"And what will Leo be playing as?" Natalia asked curiously.

Leah placed a hand on her chin in thought then said, "Hmm, Leo will be the driver."

Leo didn’t protest nor did he agree, so Natalia played along and sat obediently following everyone of Leah’s little instructions.

"Here, have some tea and toast then get going to school. Driver Leo will take you today, I have to do laundry." Leah said seriously, sounding like an adult even though her voice had its usual childish slur.

She filled the little tea cup with a liquid in her tea time play set.

Natalia almost couldn’t hold back her amusement at this little play. Leah was taking her adult role quite well.

"Alright then." Natalia picked up the tea cup and Leah suddenly stopped her.

"That’s not how you play." The little girl admonished looking displeased.

"Oh, what am I doing wrong?" Natalia asked looking genuinely confused.

"You say, thank you Mommy because you have to be grateful for the food."

Natalia almost swallowed her tongue. Does the game have to be so realistic that she would need to say the word "Mommy?"

But Natalia couldn’t stand to disappoint the adorable little girl, so she smiled sweetly and said, "Thank you for the food Mommy."

Leah smiled widely looking so pleased her dimples dipped really deep in her cheeks. "Good girl. Now eat quickly and get going to school." She instructed Natalia who picked up the tea cup and pretended to take a sip then dropped it, but she was once again met with the kid’s displeased gaze.

"You have to drink up the tea for real, don’t pretend." Leah insisted.

Natalia peeked into the tea cup and found a light brown liquid that indeed looked like real tea.

"It’s really tea, I made it myself. Mommy taught me how to make tea so I never make pretend tea."

Natalia gulped. A little kid making tea and she had to drink it? It truly felt weird, where did the tea come from?

Leah urged her on with her crystalline eyes and Natalia had no choice but to once again give in. She sighed taking a deep breath.

"Okay, I’ll drink it."

Without suspecting a thing amiss with how eagerly Leah was waiting for her to drink up the tea, Natalia picked up the tea cup and gulped down the liquid in the tea cup. To her surprise it did taste like tea...like well made tea actually.

So Leah could actually make tea. What else could these little cuties do that she wasn’t aware of?

These kids had been surprising her endlessly since the very moment she first met them.

About five minutes later, Natalia was laying down on the floor next to the playhouse, seemingly in deep sleep.

Leah crouched next to her, patting her hair gently like a mother would.

"I’m sorry godmother, I only gave you two of Mommy’s pills. She takes them whenever she can’t fall asleep you know, so it’ll only make you sleep for a little bit." The little girl spoke quietly to Natalia’s sleeping form then got up when her brother came behind her.

"Let’s go, Leah." Leo merely glanced at the sleeping Natalia on the floor and made to leave.

There were things the twins did behind their mother’s back, things their mother would consider quite unsafe for them, but what she didn’t know wouldn’t make her worry.

"Wait!" Leah suddenly stopped him before he would walk out of the house, running into their bedroom to grab a pink blanket that had drawings of cats and flowers to cover Natalia up before coming back to her brother’s side.

"Alright, we can go now."
