Dungeon of Niflheim-Chapter 903: Leaving Niflheim
After their glorious meal Khione took Frost on a walk through the palace, visiting some of the recreational areas like the gardens doing her best to draw out the time until his inevitable departure. Unfortunately there was still no word from Karolina, so Frost reluctantly lost his opportunity to meet with one of Khione closest friends. A real shame as from what Khione told him she sounded really interesting.
Eventually as the time of departure drew near the young couple and battle mount left the confines of the palace. They teleported into the giant metropolis below and made their way towards the outskirts of the city where Frost first arrived several days prior. The entire time Khione and Frost walked hand in hand, the former almost gripping like a vice, terrified to let go.
For Khione this was not a joyous event but one filled with pain and heartbreak, something she had rarely experienced in her life.
She didn’t really understand and because of that she sought to lay blame thus her father unfortunately became the scapegoat. It was because of his request that Frost was leaving so soon never mind the fact that he’d be leaving regardless or the fact that her father actually extended his visit by offering to deposit him half across the glacial mountains no none of that factored into her thoughts, he was the enemy simple as that.
As they neared the open expanse, gatekeeper Yule greeted the two of them with a respectful salute. "Did you enjoy your visit to Niflheim Prince Frost?"
"Very much so Yule." He glanced at Khione while he said this making the young woman slightly blush.
"Hahahaha looks like congratulations are in order." Khione’s coquettish actions didn’t escape Yule’s S-rank sight. Seeing them together like this was picturesque, Frost and Khione looked like the ideal couple.
Frost had the urge to openly brag but knew that doing so would not only greatly embarrass his strong lover but would likely jeopardise Yule’s work life so he simply responded with a curt nod and smile, his free hand however revealed an imposing thumbs up out of Khione’s sight.
"Perfect looks like you’re already here." Suddenly to their left a portal opened up revealing several figures.
"Your Majesties." Yule quickly dropped to one knee as he saw Shivali the Primordial Ice King, Freyja the 2nd Empress and Princess Tengliu exit from the portal.
Alongside them were Polina and Maxim the two who were in charge of Kiba’s training, but their status was far beneath Yule’s, so they didn’t dare receive his bow, quickly and smoothly they stood to one side, appearing inconsequential until called upon.
Hearing her father’s voice Khione nearly erupted like a long dormant volcano, her loose hand balling into a tight, trembling fist as the urge to smash his face in threatened to overwhelm her. She only managed to restrain herself because of Frost’s comforting support, his gentle, calming, heart warming presence fought against the blazing rage with soft, welcoming ice but even so the glare she threw in Shivali’s direction was anything but pleasant. The old king who looked no older than thirty felt a shiver run down his spine, genuine fear towards the misery that was sure to come making his heart tighten.
’I didn’t even do anything.’ He internally complained in a sobbing tone, feeling like a bullied victim. The axe always seemed to fall on his head. Perhaps he was cursed with such a fate, even kilter for the plethora of blessings he had received.
Freyja knowing her husband commanded a sinking ship wisely chose to abandon him, subtly retrieving the arm she had wrapped around his and shuttling a few steps to the left. She came with him but not with him at the same time, separate and therefore shouldn’t bare the same hatred.
Of course such behaviour made Shivali sob even more, truly feeling betrayed by even his closest of kin. Tengliu was already giving him judging looks before they left the palace, strictly refusing to stand next to him like she usually did. This girl of his was usually so supportive and well behaved with him, a stark contrast compared to her mother and younger sister.
Before responding to Yule’s acknowledgement he sought out the one person who could possibly put in a good word for him, a person who had previously promised to lend his aid. Alas his desperate plea made with tear filled eyes was promptly ignored, his new son in law looked straight at him before turning his head, straight up ignoring his plight.
’Damn bastard!’ Shivali cursed, his last hope thoroughly crushed but in the end he couldn’t really hold Frost responsible, given how tightly Khione wrapped herself around him, as if marking her territory and given that the two love birds were about to embrace an emotional separation it’d be improper for him to take the side of his father in law over her. Doing so would only leave a bad taste in the mouth and possible dire consequences for their future relationship. Shivali clearly understood this, but it didn’t make the knife in his heart any less painful.
"Rise Yule, you’ve worked hard in your duties and performed admirably in ensuring Frost’s safe entrance into our Domain." Putting his pain to one side Shivali donned the persona of a ruler, speaking with gravitas and dignity but to those who knew him well i.e. Freyja and Tengliu his actions were nothing but avoidance, shirking away from confrontation causing them to both roll their eyes. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"You honour me your majesty." Yule lowered his head even further before rising back to his tall imposing stature but internally he let out a sigh; Shivali’s acknowledgement served as acceptance for the way he handled that A-rank artic Zu.
"Frost have you prepared everything you need?" Shivali then looked back at Frost and spoke to him directly, forcing him to engage.
"Y...yes, I know the destination, have a fairly well thought out plan and have restocked all my supplies when I went shopping earlier." Some of the stuff he retrieved during his date with Khione, but others were handed to him by one of the royal guards, items that would serve managing additional retinue.
"Good..." Shivali showed a warm smile before bracing himself and looking at the face of his youngest daughter. "Khione have you said your goo..."
"Don’t talk to me!" Khione wasted no time in cutting her father off, leaving him speechless and hurt, his image as the great and mighty Primordial Ice King evaporating in an instant.
Frost felt rather awkward seeing Shivali being subjected to such cruelty knowing full well that he didn’t deserve most of it but was he willing to stand in front of his lover’s wrath on his behalf...no chance.
Regardless however Shivali made a good point, the separation was imminent, so it was high time he said his goodbyes.
"Kiba I’ll leave Maxim and Polina to you."
"Garow!" Kiba nodded his head in affirmation, acting like a young kid accepting a glorious mission as he bounded over towards the two who instilled him with both the belief in his own strength and the terror that befell him in order to realise it.
Frost then placed his free hand on Khione’s shoulder, offering her some physical comfort before reluctantly stepping away from her.
"Uncle, Aun... I mean Lady Freyja it has been an honour to stay with you here in your domain. I have learned much from my time here and I’m abundantly grateful for the grace you’ve shown in accepting me as Khione’s fiancé. I promise I will never let down such faith." He politely bowed his head towards his future father and mother in law, quickly changing Freyja’s title upon noticing a crack in her expression.
’Seems even when one reaches Godhood age is still an issue.’
"Hohoho so charming and respectful, Khione’s such a lucky girl....perhaps even too lucky." Freyja whispered the last part as a suspicious glint flashed in her eyes. A sentiment that was shared whole heartedly by Tengliu. In her eyes Frost was far too good for her naïve, virgin sister, he deserved a proper woman, someone like her.
While it may have been a mere floundering interest in the beginning, after making firm contact with that intimidating weapon of his she struggled to get such ideas out of her head. Wasn’t Frost perfect husband material, handsome, dashing, strong, skilled, flirtatious and bearing equipment that was right in her strike zone. She tried to get him out of her head with a session of intense self-love hoping to curb her urges but that only made her want to experience him more.
Currently she was struggling to restrain the growing lust in her gaze, her eyes repeatedly wandering only to return to Frost’s body.
Her covert actions were enough to fool Khione but Freyja who had similar aspirations caught on, she could smell the lust on her eldest daughter and couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear. The idea she had pondered previously rising back to the forefront. Skadi said it’d be impossible but if she had Tengliu helping her then perhaps it could be achieved.
Of course such things would have to be put off for a while as Khione had barely moved passed the kissing stage.
"Yes, yes I couldn’t agree with you more my dear, to find such a good son in law is certainly a blessing for us." Shivali completely oblivious to his wife’s machinations nodded his head and let loose a booming laugh before handing over a blue orb that was both cold and warm to the touch.
"This orb will help prove your identity while at the same time help you find their hiding location." This was something he whipped up last night, a tracking device with his imprint that was connected to the soul of the one called Neve, the leader of the remaining Lunar Maidens.
"Thank you Uncle." Frost took hold of the orb and placed it safely in the storage ring on his left hand, -another gift that was handed to him previously, containing a literal bevy of supplies- before turning to face Tengliu.
"It was a pleasure to meet you sister Tengliu, please if you ever find yourself wandering through the external regions of the Glacial mountains do pay me a visit. I’ll ensure that you’ll receive our highest hospitality." Frost was quite taken with this sister in law, she was bold, honest and full of embarrassing stories about Khione. As long as he overlooked her aggressive teasing and flirting they’d likely be fast friends.
"Oh I’ll definitely take you up on that little Frost." Tengliu revealed a small smile as she stepped forward to whisper in his ear. "I am curious about what kind of hospitality you can offer me~" She said in a flirtatious tone before lightly blowing in his ear, the limit of what she could do while in the presence of her parents and baby sister who’s gaze seemed to lose all colour the moment she stepped in close.
Before Frost could even laugh off her words he was fiercely wrenched backwards, his arm locked between imposing muscle and a bottomless softness as a literal hiss escaped Khione’s plump lips.
She wouldn’t allow any flirting or teasing from her family members, a line needed to be firmly drawn.
Her strong reproach caught Tengliu, Freyja and even Shivali off guard but after a few seconds each of them loudly laughed finding her possessiveness adorable rather than intimidating.
Pissed off by their giggling Khione loudly hmphed and dragged Frost over to one side so she could give her goodbyes without interference.
