The man didn't reply to any of Sharp's questions and they led everyone in the group towards the prison in the basement. Like any other prison it was cold, musty and dark, but this was no ordinary prison. It was meant for the most dangerous creatures that loitered around in the barrenland, rogue hunters.

The bars were thick and made of alloy, though nothing would stop a hunter determined to seek for freedom. What made this prison special wasn't the sturdyness of its structure, but the different poisons and drugs used to keep hunters sedated.

After restraining their movements with alloy wire, one by one they injected them with a syringe filled with a strange green liquid without even bothering to change the needle or even wash it. Sharp's first instinct was to fight back, but Uriel stopped her because the enemies were pointing their guns at them.

"It's kind of late to do that." Uriel said in a whisper and then was his turn to receive the shot, though he didn't feel anything wrong with his body and he wondered whether it was because he was now a heavenly rank hunter or if it was because of some lingering side effect of Water warlock's blessing.

"What is this!? What did you give us?" Cried Horace.

"I have no clue, but aren't you supposed to know what it is? After all, this is one of your facilities." The man in charge replied.

"It's venom extracted from a monster rank rattlesnake common around these places. It causes your blood pressure to drop and it also things your blood." Sharp, the most veteran ranger present, explained.

"I had no idea where did they get it from, but they've been even a papercut might kill you if you're not careful." The man added.

"Boss, you have to come and see this." One of the rogue hunters said after pulling off the hoodie that was covering the wild girl's face.

This chapt𝓮r is updat𝒆d by ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom.

"This is a nice find, I bet they'll pay us a lot for someone like her." Another rogue hunter added with a crooked grin.

"Don't be foolish, the Fallen corp. doesn't care about looks, all they care about is rank. I think she's an evolved and they're more trouble than they're worth. Just kill her and be done with it, I didn't get where I am today by taking unnecessary risks." The boss said in a commanding tone of voice.

"Phew! What a waste, can't we at least have some fun with her first?" The man who was now grabbing the wild girl's face whistled with the intention to intimidate her, but instead of showing any signs of fear she tilted her head with curiosity.

She didn't understand their words or what was going on, but she was no idiot either. Although body language is difficult to understand or most people, its meaning is pretty much universal. For someone like her who didn't speak more than a few spare words in english, it could be said that body language was her main language.

She was able to tell something was wrong, but she limited herself to look at Uriel, who kept nodding at her in a reassuring way to let her know that she needed to remain calm.

"Let the venom kick in, then we need to interrogate them about that cloud to the east, then we'll pack them up for sale and go back to the city." After that, the rogue hunters exited the prison, leaving only the two men assigned as guards.

"This is our chance, quick, cut the restraints!" Horace said as he attempted to release himself.

"You're such an idiot. This isn't our chance, they left because they know how effective this venom is. I bet they're the ones who used to be imprisoned here, the question is how did they manage to overpower the rangers." Sharp muttered the last part, not really expecting an answer, but one of the guards was happy to do it anyway.

"That part was easy, when the stampede hit this place we convinced one of the rangers to release us. We promised we would fight to defend this place and then..."

"Shut up, you idiot! If the boss finds out you've been talking with the prisoners he's going to make an example out of you. Best case scenario he sells your ass to the Fallen corp. and who knows what they're doing with the hunters we sell them."

"They're using them as food for cryptids." Uriel replied with a nonchalant tone.

"What!?" Both prisoners and guards let out in astonishment.

"They're keeping an army of cryptids inside the city and they're always hungry. If they make too many people disappear the hunters will eventualy notice."

"Yeah, right... another conspiracy theorist." The same guard who replied to Sharp let out a sigh.

"Shut up rookie and let us solve this, you're only making things worse." Horace gave Uriel a nudge on the rib, though for some reason it felt like he hit a steel plate. "Ouch! Wasn't this supposed to be a slow actin venom? It's already taking effect on me."

Sharp dismissed horace's complains and instead directed all of her attention to the two guards standing watch. They were ascended, but she knew how dangerous rogue hunters could be and she was sizing them up to see if she stood a chance against them, but she couldn't figure out a safe way to face them before the venom started affecting her.

Her mind became dizzy, her muscles ached and her eyesight got blurry, but the worst part was her inability to channel flux.

Had Luna been there, she might have been able to make an anti venom with ease with all the drugs kept on that basement, but of none of those present knew the first thing about medicine which meant that even if Sharp somehow managed to overpower the guards, they would be left defenseless against the ten or so men that awaited outside.

"We're screwed." Sharp muttered through her gritting teeth. Many times in her life she had been helpless against threats that surpassed her level, but not once did she feel so powerless. There was alwas a way out: running, fighting or even lying her way out of dangerous situations, but now that the harmful substance was already coursing through her veins it was too late.

"Relax, we'll be out in no time." Uriel whispered.

"How can you be so calm in a situation like this? Are you implying that you can get us out of here?" Sharp hesitantly asked. She suspected Uriel's identity wasn't so simple, but other than her gut feeling she didn't know what to think.

"If you do exactly as I say we're all going to make it. For now, we just need to stay put until they think we're weak and defenseless, then..."

"But we are defenseless! I'm not putting my hopes in a rookie... If you guys want to wait for your deaths you're free to do it by yourselves, but I can't die in a place like this!" The other ranger said as he broke free from the restraints and ran towards the exit. Contrary to everyone's expectations, the guards didn't even lift a finger to stop him and just let him go.

"He made it! We're saved!" Said Horace when he saw his friend disappear through the exit door and he attemp[ted to broke the restraints like him. He was weak, but that didn't stop him from trying.

"It's too late for him, but you need to do as I said. Just remain calm and..." Uriel attempted to convince Horace, but he couldn't bear the thought of losing his one chance to escape.

He didn't think of the reason why the guards didn't attempt to stop his companion or why the door was unlocked in fact, he wasn't thinking at all. He was just like a scared animal who could only see the exit door and not the bigger threat waiting outside. Just when his restraints were about to give in and Horace was getting ready o run away, Uriel choked him using his restraints until he passed out.

Sharp was about to curse at him when around object came rolling down the stairs. It was oval shaped and painted in red, with two empty eye sockets and a gaping mouth.

"You guys let him go on purpose didn't you?" The boss said from upstairs and both guards broke in a laughter they had been holding.

"Sorry 'bout that boss, but it's just too funny watching them get their hopes up only to lose them on the last second."

Sharp's one good eye let out a stream of tears that flowed silently, her sight was already fading to black and she soon lost consciousness, only this time it wasn't Uriel but the rattlesnake poison. They gave each hunter a doze according to their rank, but since Sharp seemed to be the strongest among them, they gave her a little extra to keep her in a cooperative state.

Uriel moved next to the wild girl and soothed her by patting her head just like he did to Luna whenever she was upset which caused the wild girl to fall into a deep slumber in a matter of minutes. Wth that worry out of the way, it was Uriel's turn to take a nap before making his move.
