Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 455: A pretty good deal Part 2
After the shocking revelation, Soulfire seemed to fall into a daze for a couple of minutes leaving Uriel in an awkward position. On the one hand, he wanted to leave as soon as possible, but on the other, Soulfire's trait could prove to be useful to him.
"Hey, are you still there?" Uriel probed.
"Yes, yes, I'm sorry, I was just... I mean, vampires? Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't believe you, but it seems taken from a fantasy novel." Soulfire shook his head.
"You're saying that lighting candles for people, knowing when they die and then communicating with them before they go to the afterlife is possible, but growing fangs and drinking blood is too much?"
"If you put it that way, I guess it's not that weird. Still, do you think it works in a way similar to possessions? If so, there might still be a way to save my little brother."
"I couldn't know if it works similar to possessions, but I came here because you asked me to kill Mark. If you want to save him, then you're on your own."
"So cruel, you kill one of my brothers and now you're after the other!" Soulfire pouted.
"Yeah, because you asked me to. Besides, I didn't kill Ethan, he died of natural causes." Uriel rebuked and then inwardly thought: 'With a sword through him it was only natural he died.'
"Is that so? Because I heard a different story." Soulfire looked Uriel in the eye and spoke with a dubious tone, but Uriel ignored him and proceeded to tell him his terms.
"I'll collect half of the payment before and half after the deed, There's also a couple things I need you to do for me."
"A couple things? I'm flattered, but I'm straight." Soulfire seemed troubled and waved his hand dismissively.
"Ha, pretty funny. Now, I want you to make one of your candles thinking on Mister Scofield and also..."
"It's not going to work, I don't know that guy. I need to meet them in person in order to activate my trait. That's why I only have candles lit for the people I care about the most and the most important people in the city..."
"Like holy rank hunters?"
"Precisely." Soulfire nodded.
"Then, do you have a candle for the Quill?"
"Of course I do," Soulfire went to the next room and came back with a candle, the fire looked healthy and there was nothing odd, making Uriel sigh in relief. "What's the matter?"
"It's nothing. I just needed to make sure of something. We have a deal, I'll kill Mark for you in exchange for that candle.... and money, of course."
"But I don't want to kill my brother anymore. The only reason I asked you to do it was because he's after me. Now that I know he's a vampire, there might be a way to save him."
"Hang on a second, is there a way to come back from something like that? I thought once someone became a hybrid it was permanent."
"You know about hybrids too, huh! Well, it's not as simple as that. There's those who are born hybrids and those who become hybrids. Despite looking the same, there's a difference. A possessed person has two consciousness within a single body, while a hybrid has only one."
"I don't see how could that be helpful in any way. Unless..." Uriel then fell silent. He didn't care how did Soulfire know so much about hybrids and possession, but he now realized the missing piece he needed.
The fallen corp. used horror rank cryptids to possess humans. The process was still a mystery, but if the cryptid used a part of its own body to possess humans, killing the source should be enough to cure the human. It wasn't scientific, but it made sense. Horror rank cryptids were still cryptids and they disappeared when they died, which should cleanse those affected by them.
Something like that wouldn't work on Water warlock, Uriel knew it well, but it was a first step into understanding possessions and he decided to test it, even if it meant setting off to kill a horror rank cryptid.
Now he knew what he needed to do, the only thing left for him to do was to become strong enough to make his plan a reality and without his friends by his side, the only way to do it was to hunt.
"I don't think the fact that Mark is possessed has anything to do with his intention to kill you, but if you really want to save him I'll give you a hand. But it'll cost you even more."
"Money isn't an issue." Soulfire replied with a determined expression on his face, one that lasted only until he saw the price Uriel asked for it. Granted, he was wealthy beyond what regular people could imagine, but that didn't mean his funds were endless.
Not even five minutes after, Uriel walked outside Soulfire's cozy home bearing a huge grin on his face. It wasn't without reason, since Uriel Uriel squeezed as much money as he could from Soulfire even though their interests alligned perfectly, though he didn't need to know that.
The meeting with Mark's eldest brother was incredibly fruitful for Uriel, but the most unexpected was how pleasant it was. Still, Uriel didn't let his guard down for a second. Even if Soulfire seemed to be a nice man, he knew better than to trust anyone from the Jacobs family.
"Now, to the Cryptid hunting agency to see if there's any work." Uriel walked with a confident expression on his face and headed directly to the closest branch, though as soon as he entered he reminded he couldn't use his hunter card since it was the same as putting a target on his back.
Just as he pondered about his dilemma, he found a group of kids trying to muster the courage to speak to the clerk. They looked anxious and seemed to be rookies, so Uriel decided to speak to them and see if there was any way to blend in with them.
"Hey guys, what's up?"
"You're here for that too?" The leader of the group, who had to be at least a couple years younger than Uriel replied with a friendly tone.
"Yeah, I am." Uriel shrugged.
"That's so relieving! We thought we would be the only new hunters today and we were so scared." A girl replied.
Uriel scanned them to identify their ranks, but he soon realized they weren't hunters at all. They were just regular humans, which explained why they were so anxious.
"Next, please." The clerk said in a monotone and the party leader made his way towards the counter.

"We're here to get our traits."
"Sign this paper here and head to the hangar." The clerk handed everyone a sheet of paper. It was a pretty standar dismissal of responsibility, just like the one Uriel signed before going to his first incursion.
The group was toured around the city until they found some beast rank cryptids and without fail, everyone got their trait. Something wasn't adding up for Uriel and he asked the driver and even though he replied in an annoying manner, he did answer his question.
"Kids these days, I swear. I had to work my ass off to get my trait and now the Cryptid hunting agency is handing them like candy."
Once again, Uriel guessed it had to be related to the Fallen corporation. He didn't know why they were raising so many hybrids and cryptids inside the city, but the more hunters there were, the more 'food' they had for their army. It was beyond cruel, but in the eyes of the masses it was a positive thing.
That was Sam's style. To do 'nice things' with an ulterior motive. It wasn't something that bother Uriel when they were still friends. He still remembered when Sam offered to wake him up early everyday in exchange for Medusa's number and he couldn't help but smile wrily at the memory.
"What's up kid? You didn't get a trait?" The driver asked.
"No, that's not possible... we all got tested before coming. Right guys?" The leader turned to his friends.
This finally snapped Uriel back to reality and he got closer to the beast rank cryptid that was still on the process to vanish. Then, he briefly activated his Dash skill, creating the illusion of getting a trait.
"Wow! That was so cool!" One of the highschool girs gasped.
"He must be at least an ascended!" Another one added.
"Not necessarily, I can't be certain but it seems he's an evolved just like you." The driver let out and then hurried everyone inside the vehicle to go back to the city. For once, things had been going even better than Uriel could have dreamed, since now he would be able to get a new valid ID and he would also be allowed to hunt.
'Even if I need to babysit for a while, It beats being trapped inside the city.' Uriel inwardly thought.
