Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 765: The big secret Part 3
Hathaway's next goal was to recruit someone he knew was Uriel's enemy that also happened to be stronger than him. If that wasn't true, then there would have been no reason for Uriel to ask for Hathaway's help when fighting against Sam.
"Sir, are you absolutely certain this is the correct place?" Asked an armored hunter standing by Hathaway while supervising the excavation.
"I didn't spend hours shoveling salt into this sinkhole for nothing." Hathaway said without taking his eyes from dig site.
"And are you sure he's still alive? I know there are plenty of strange traits going around, but being buried in salt for weeks seems a bit too much." The hunter insisted in the most apologetic tone he could muster.
"The person we are digging out of here wasn't just buried in salt. He was tied, drained of flux energy, dismembered and whatever remain was crushed for hours before pouring salt."
"Then what are we doing here?"
"It's precisely because of those precautions that I know the person we're looking for is still alive. Now shut up and do your job." Hathaway said after losing his patience.
Despite the Hathaway company possessing enough manpower to dig the sinkhole by hand in less than half an hour, they proceeded with extreme caution as Hathway had warned them of the potentially dangerous person they might unearth. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
But to Hathaway's employees those warnings felt like the whims of a deranged rich young man with more time and money than he knew what to do with, but that all changed when in the middle of the night someone uncovered what seemed to be a human finger.
Had that been all it wouldn't have caused a stir, but despite being detached the finger still moved which caused the hunter that unearthed the disembodied limb to shriek in horror.
"Keep going!" Hathaway demanded forcing the workers that had previously ran away from the sinkhole to get back inside and continue their endeavor.
Their findings of animated human remains continued throughout the night and until noon under Hathaway's seemingly unfazed expression, though he was actually the one most afraid out of everyone present.
Especially since he remembered the state of Sam's remains the last time he saw them and there was nothing other than a bloody pulp, which meant that despite Uriel's precautions Sam was still somehow able to regenerate.
"Bring water." Hathaway commanded.
"Here you go." Thinking his boss was thirsty, the employee brought him a bottle of water and was left dumbfounded when instead of drinking it he poured it into the remains.
Each drop of water was immediately absorbed, some disappeared even making contact with Sam's body and the regeneration process sped up to the point of it being noticeable. Hathaway could have added more water, but decided not to just in case Sam didn't wake up in the mood for a talk, but that wasn't the only precaution he took.
There were dozens of hunters surrounding the sinkhole and all the weapon systems on the Behemoth, their biggest and most powerful zeppelin, were directly pointed towards Sam. A hunter may be able to survive after being shot with firearms, but kinetic projectiles the size of a school bus accelerated by electromagnetic rails charged with flux energy were an entirely different scenario.
"Can you hear me?" Asked Hathaway when Sam's body finally rearranged itself in the form of a complete human being, though he was severely dehydrated and didn't look anything like he did before his defeat.
"Yes." Sam said as he opened his golden gleaming eyes that could see everything.
"I don't mean any harm to you, I just want to talk." Hathaway said. When Sam remained silent, one of his men pointed his firearm towards the Lightbringer, his hands trembling so much it caused a rattling sound.
"Harm me?" Sam took a pause to look at the people and weapons pointed at him. "Do you think that after being stabbed, cut to pieces and buried in the desert for who knows how long I'll be afraid to get shot?" Sam's eyes lit up in a golden light that made everyone, even Hathaway, take a step back. But things took a different turn when Sam continued. "Of course I'm fucking scared!
There's nowhere for me to go without angry hunters chasing after me, horrifying cryptids lurking at every corner or worse. Just leave me alone and go." After uttering those words Sam dug a small hole in the ground and buried his head.
"Is this guy for real?" Asked the second in command to Hathaway who was just as confused.
"Listen, Lightbringer, I need your help to deal with Uriel."
"Where is he?" Asked Sam from his comfortable hiding position, uncaring that most of his body was exposed.
"My people think he was killed by the man eater island, but I don't think that's the case. That's why I came here, to ask for your help to kill him." Hathaway said, though Sam didn't miss the hesitation on his voice.
"That island is the precise reason why I couldn't make it to Europe before, but I agree with you, that's not enough to kill him." Sam explained.
"Why did you want to go to Europe? And did you try another route?"
"I tried going through Africa, but I was banished from the shadows. You were here with him, are you not his friend?" Sam asked.
"I'm not, but even if I was, that won't change the fact that he can't be allowed to live. So, are you in or not?"
"Even if I wanted to go, I'm too weak right now to move. Besides, after all the trouble I gave them, I doubt the Mapple corp. will just let me enter their continent." Sam shrugged with his head still buried in the ground.
"Their continent!? Europe is not their continent, at least not while the Hathaway conglomerate still exists." If nothing else, those words sparked Sam's curiosity and he briefly took out his head from his hiding hole.
"Are you enemies of the Mapple corporation too?" Sam's question was answered by a solemn nod of the head, which prompted him to speak. "then I guess I could give you a hand."
