Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 930: Exorcism
Chapter 930: Exorcism
"Boooored." Medusa let out for the umpteenth time as they waited for the holy rank hunters to deliver the first god on the ’to be exorcised’ list. The wait had not been that long, but the anticipation to the event had everyone biting their nails. Everyone except for Medusa who didn’t have much of an interest in neither the cultural implication or the potential development of the ceremony.
"Why don’t you grab some of the trinkets in your needlessly large backpack and play with them?" Uriel grunted at Medusa who became annoyed on the spot.
"It’s not needlessly large if it comes in handy, is it?" She replied as though she delivered a final strike, but she did end up pouring the contents of her backpack on the ground to play. Along with more tools than a person could hope to ever use in a lifetime, spools of wire and what seemed random scrap, an electronic device fell on the ground puffing out smoke.
"At least I know how to handle electronic devices." Uriel said with a smirk.
"Don’t lecture me on how to handle technology, this isn’t a regular laptop. It’s the one that trapped Sam. That means it’s an artifact, hence it’s your field of expertise." Medusa informed in the most passive aggressive way she could muster.
"Let me see...," Uriel placed a hand on the device, but didn’t feel the warmth of an artifact ready to be embraced by his trait but the opposite reaction. It felt akin to getting zapped and even though he never experienced it before, he somehow knew the artifact repelled him. "I don’t know what could be causing all that smoke, but it is absolutely an artifact. Only I can’t really store it in my museum for some odd reason."
"It may have something to do with this." Luna pointed at the laptop screen which portrayed a very scared, very confused Sam waving at them as though asking for mercy.
"May I take a look?" Sister Marianne, who up until that moment had also showed signs of anxiety, walked closer and did take a look despite no one answering. "I think the reason it’s blowing smoke has nothing to do with the artifact itself, but rather it’s content."
"I just said that." Luna glared at the nun.
"You did," Marian said to Luna with a kind smile, the same one would bear while talking to a child. "but I’ve seen this before many times. It’s the typical reaction when something evil steps inside a sacred field."
"It would make sense, Sam faced some devilish creatures in the game," Medusa pondered for a couple seconds before asking. "do you think you can release our friend from that artifact?"
"There is only one way to be sure." Uriel grinned as he started performing the ceremony that should have been reserved for a god. In response, the Dungeon Raiders got the chanting started while releasing the slightest amount of flux and the amount of smoke that came out from the laptop increased.
"It’s working!" Said Marianne with a joyful smile that vanished along with the ritual fizzling out.
"What happened?" Uriel asked the expert.
"I’m not sure, but perhaps the exorcism wasn’t addressed properly. You have an artifact that’s trapped a human, but if the human is also possessed, then you should start not by exorcising the human or the artifact, but the being within." Sister Marianne explained in an oddly specific and insightful manner prompting Uriel to grab his dagger from his trait.
"In the hypothetical case that this dagger could act as a vessel for said alleged entity, would it be possible for us to move the being to the vessel and then releasing our friend?" Asked Uriel.
"Well," Sister Marianne scratched her cheek and looked the other way. "I could alter the ceremony, but..."
"Let’s do it."
Sister Marianne scratched parts of the exorcism replaced others and added a sizeable amount of content which everyone copied to the letter in their own sheets before placing the laptop that held Sam captive in the middle of the church and the dagger right next to it.
It was a long shot and Uriel didn’t think it would work, but taking Water warlock our of Sam was the only thing he could think of that would allow everyone to trust Sam again. That wouldn’t just mean getting his friend back, but also containing the existential threat that was Water warlock and even giving them the means to return it to the ancient structure where he should have remained forever. freewёbnoνel-com
"I will now start the ceremony, no matter what happens now, don’t stop chanting until it’s finished." Said Uriel with eyes glimmering of determination and confidence.
He still didn’t know what kind of being Water warlock was, but he was fully aware of how dangerous it was to mishandle his power.
When the chanting of the enochian exorcism written in phonetics for everyone’s convenience started once more the laptop produced an amount of smoke equal to the one produced before filling up the entire church in a sudden gray ambience. This time, though, the ritual didn’t fizzle out and the words spoken by every single Dungeon Raider member stuck in the air reverberating as the chanting started over and over.
Each time they recited the full exorcism the words became louder and the flux energy filling up the air more powerful bringing back memories of the ceremony the Society performed beneath the Alamo. It was concerning to say the least, but they were already committed to performing the full ceremony.
Uriel acknowledged the preparation phase was ready when all colors seemed to be devoured by the smoke curiously allowing them to see past the dense smoke, though only in shades of gray.
"Now what?" Asked Uriel to the exorcist.
"Now you need to speak to the entity to find out its name. Some persuasion could help because the guest usually doesn’t want to cooperate, we usually use holy water, but that is because demons are weak to it. If you happen to know it’s weakness you can convince it to give you his name faster..."
"That won’t be necessary, I know his name." The blue emitted by Uriel’s eyes was soon encompassed by Medusa’s crimson who suddenly gained interest in the ceremony, the same as Luna’s white light.
"We speak to you, Water warlock." They said in unison as though they rehearsed it. Allowing the bypass of the identification stage of the exorcism and directly to the ’command phase’. The solemnity of the moment was then breached by a short period of confusion.
"Should we actually command him to move into the dagger?" Asked Medusa who knew Water warlock’s temper.
"Probably not a good idea." Uriel shook his head.
"We kindly ask you to move into the dagger we have prepared for you." Luna said in the most respectful tone of voice she could muster, which didn’t differ at all from the tone she would use at any given time.
A flash of bright light accompanied by the sound of heavy rain pouring outside the building later and the smoke dissipated on its own after the ceremony finished prompting Sister Marianne to smile with pure bliss. Her smile, though, stretched wider and wider almost reaching her eyes as she craned her neck up and started laughing in a bellowing tone that could not possibly come from a human.
"Foolish mortals... you just gave up your best weapon against gods," The woman, who apparently was not a human at all, could barely speak in between frantic laughter. "now you have no choice but to surrender to our reign and do whatever we ask of you." The sound of her voice barely surpassing that of her laughter was then deafened by a laughter even louder and more spread. It was only Uriel at first, then followed by Medusa and even Luna with her unsettling cackle. Then laughter spread all around as if it were a contagious plague that afflicted all humans.
"Can you believe this one? She really thinks she outsmarted us." Miss Dragonfang wiped a tear from her eyes as she laughed so much, only she did not have a clue as to what was going on and just wanted to be part of the moment.
"You don’t know what’s going on, do you?" Phlox glared at her, unamused by her nonchalant ignorance.
"Did I miss a memo or something?" Lizzy Dragonfang asked her best friend.
"Someone missing a memo would mean they even read them to begin with. You’ve been so distracted with that Soulfire guy you get even less work done than before." Phlox sighed as the laughter broke down and ’Sister Marianne’ fell into a puzzled state.
"What is it? What are you laughing at?" Sister Marianne said, not a hint of kindness in her eyes anymore.
"Offer us a bad deal, we’ll doubt your intentions. Offer us a too good a deal and we’ll know your intentions can’t be good." Uriel said with a grin that somehow gave the chills to the unidentified being possessing the nun.
