Chapter 966: Letter to Dana

The ancient Mayan dragon called Vision serpent completed the task asked by the one who summoned him as it was his duty which left the dragon with the satisfaction of a job well done. That said, he still wanted to get as far away from Uriel as fast as possible due the violent persuasion Uriel exerted on him when the dragon first refused to let him ride on his loin, but after landing he noticed Uriel cut his wrists again and that prompted the dragon to speak.

"It is not necessary for you to draw more blood for me, your life could be at risk if you lose more blood. You already paid the price for the travel." The dragon said, worried that the precious liquid Uriel was spilling on the ground could weaken him before the fight he assumed that was about to break.

"This is a tip. You did well and the talk was nice." Uriel said, though he was also sad on the inside since he knew it was likely the last time someone would ever summon the vision serpent. The Mayan ritual seemed like just splattering blood around, but each movement held meaning and it had to be performed with the proper disposition. For someone to know this was already difficult, but to believe it would actually work was almost impossible.

"The bloodletting ritual? Did you just Uber here on top of the Vision dragon?" A tall figure emerged from the Mapple corporation headquarters, though contrary to the dragon’s expectations the man didn’t carry a weapon or showed any sign of aggression. Nevertheless, for some unknown reason the dragon felt compelled to protect his former passenger and let out a low growl.

"It’s exactly that," Uriel smiled sincerely after seeing Jon as his father for the first time. They didn’t get along before, but now he truly understood why. From his smirk to his arrogant attitude, what others perceived as charming he saw as annoying. "I need you to take me to a place."

"You got tired of flying on a dragon and decided you want me to carry you on a piggyback? You’re a bit too old for that, but I’ll still do it if you want." Jon joked casually.

"I need you to take me to the place where the gods are gathered." Uriel somberly declared, his intentions clear through his crooked grin.

"I’ll need you to help me first. Dana was betrayed, somehow she got sealed back on her dungeon and I don’t know how to get her out. You’ve already been there and I figured..."

"Sure, I also want to talk to her." Uriel agreed, though he also asked to travel in a properly insulated ship or else the curse Zeus gave him would cause trouble along the way.

As they traveled to the dungeon of Rathcrogan where they knew Dana was likely sealed and in the meantime, Uriel’s friends were preparing themselves for the confrontation with the gods. At that precise moment Medusa was already reunited with her mother and the same happened with Luna, and the only one who had already performed their task was Sam who had in his possession the Demon core would use to threaten the gods.

The Mapple corp. zeppelin Jon ’borrowed’ for the trip was fast and they soon reached their destination and Uriel excitedly jumped off the moment it landed. He headed straight inside the large building across the secret path that fairies used to transport gold and valuable items, though this time cryptids ran away instead of fighting.

Bone fairies, the protectors of the fairy realm would still attack them, but Uriel now knew how to avoid them and thanks to that they didn’t need to fight on their way to the chamber where the ancient device was located.

Without further adue, Uriel pressed on the animal patterns on the ancient device just as Nika did in the past and the last chamber was opened revealing Dana bawling her eyes out. Her scruffy appearance was anything but godly and she seemed no different than a mortal woman on the eyes of both her husband and her son.

"Dana! Are you alright?" Jon hurried to wrap her in a hug that caused her to briefly lift her face, only to cover it with her palms.

"Don’t look at me, I’m hideous." She said, now crying tears of relief and joy.

"Hi." Uriel awkwardly said, his voice crossed not just the physical distance but also the emotional one as Dana’s godly senses allowed her to realize something.

"Son? Is that really you!?" Dana’s eyes lit up in bright purple for an instant and she looked at him, she really looked at him for the first time. She moved gracefully across time and space as only death, and apparently Uriel too, could do and they hugged each other in a long winded hug. "you are not the same as the last time I saw you, it’s as if you are now complete."

The murders Uriel committed were still as evident as they were in the past for Dana who could see exactly how many lives he took with his own hands, but she saw it in a completely different light now. As a goddess, she could read biological fields because for her that was reality. This meant that, while Jon saw Uriel exactly the same, Dana noticed the difference immediately.

Uriel then proceeded to grab a few useful things from his souvenir shop, including furniture, clothes and even snacks to make their meeting more comfortable. They talked for hours about things Uriel would have liked to know, but his past self dismissed them as he considered them to be irrational. He also feared that opening himself would make him vulnerable in front of those two strangers, but now they didn’t feel as strangers anymore.

He still found Jon to be annoying, but also endearing, and while his childhood memories were a scrambled mess due to being raised by a cryptid that fed off of him for so long, everything about Dana felt nostalgic.

Uriel let himself be carried away by those feelings and truly opened up in front of them, recounting events of the past and his actual feelings about them. They shared memories and regretted the life together they couldn’t have. Uriel also answered any and all of their questions until after a full day of a touching conversation, it was time to get into business.

"The reason you’re here is because someone used your Axis mundi to send you back. In other words, someone betrayed you." Uriel declared.

"Do you know who it was?" Jon clenched his fists as a way to vent his anger, inwardly swearing he would destroy the traitor.

"Of course he knows, he’s as capable as his mom!" Dana chuckled.

"Actually, I don’t, but I know how to find them. There’s an auction house that has a suspiciously large amount of mythological artifacts and we need to break in."

"Come on, don’t leave us hanging son." Jon said, glad that Uriel didn’t snarl or scoff at him when he called him son, but also worried for the serious matter at hand.

"You sure know it, it is now an auction house, but it used to be the Brittish museum."

"Bollocks!" Jon shouted.

"Darling, don’t curse in front of our son. Look at the example you’re setting for him."

"He’s alright, he grew up fine despite not being raised by us because he has our blood," They went back and forth with such comments until Jon finally realized Uriel was glaring at him. "the thing about the brittish museum is it’s security. It’s not just top notch, it’s where most of holy rank hunters gather all the time. It’s like an armory, only instead of ammo and high tech rifles the weapons being sold are ancient artifacts with abilities. But you also know about them... so..." ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com

At that moment Jon fell silent as he realized the look of sadness Uriel gave to Dana. It was the kind of expression people made when they were about to say something regretful and Uriel’s inner struggle could be seen from the outside. It was tough and Uriel himself didn’t know if he would be actually capable of speaking, yet he soldiered through and decided to say the words.

"Mother," He started. "It was great meeting with you, I’m really glad we got to catch up, but you can’t come with. This is a matter that concerns only humans and your presence will put us at a disadvantage."

"But I’m more powerful than you know!" She rebuked.

"I am too." He smiled reassuringly, though his eyes looked with the same sadness.

In the end, he couldn’t say it. How could he say that he was about to face the entire pantheon of gods alone without fear of losing, in fact, he was absolutely certain that he was now powerful enough to defeat them with the help of Water warlock. But that despite his certain victory, what came next would be a task even greater, something that win or lose would still destroy his soul.
