Chapter 495 494 - Rest

Point-of-View: Damien Romer

———————————————————————————

Well...this is boring. A hundred years have passed since I killed Shiro...and nothing of note has really happened in the time since then.

Today's the 5th of January, 1822, and I was currently in the Rustlands throne room, having just got done having an orgy with fifteen newly married women, while their husbands were tied up in the corners of the room and made to watch.

Things have advanced and progressed quite drastically in the last century, there were a few people who defied and resisted me, but I put them under my control and forced them to do my bidding.

And after that, everyone else has been happy to do as I say, since you know, they don't want to die or have their free will stripped away.

That said, pretty much every human who was alive back then are dead now, though the members of the other races have mostly remained the same, excluding the ones that I've killed, of course.

I still haven't managed to destroy the barrier that's been cutting off Abyss and Liberty from the rest of the world, but I'm close...I recently found a Reincarnator who has an impressive knack for spell creation.

He created a spell that can analyze other spells, which he used to analyze the barrier, and confirmed that he can make a spell to undo it...unfortunately, that could take upto twenty years or so, so it won't be happening anytime soon.

I've been using my healing powers to maintain his youth, I can't have him dying on me, who knows when next I'll find such a talented spell creator?

In the meantime, though...I've run out of things to do. I've slept with a countless number of women, I've tortured and killed people in every way imaginable, I've consumed so many hearts that my base power level is now close to 400,000, over double what it had been a century ago.

I haven't consumed any hearts in a couple of decades though, there just hasn't been any point...I've got a ridiculous amount of abilities, my Elemental Magics are off the charts powerful, and there's no one else who possesses even a fraction of my power level.

With my True Anima and Berserker unleashed, my power level goes all the way up past one and a half million, well beyond what anyone else has ever reached.

I've done everything I can think of, and I'm so damn bored now...I can tell exactly how a particular person would react to torture, I can read them all like a book now, taking the fun out of it.

I was thoroughly enjoying myself for the first fifty to sixty years or so, but after that, all the things I enjoyed so immensely, they slowly but surely were starting to lose their appeal.

And a life of luxury is great and all, but it can be so dull after decades of indulgence...I need something new to help spark me up again.

I'm hoping that that 'something new' will reveal itself to me once that wretched barrier is finally taken down. But until then, I'm stuck with this boredom...

"Hey, guards, clean up this place and then see everyone out. I'm going for a walk," I sighed, as I put my clothes back on and headed out.

I left the castle and strolled out with a sigh, absent-mindedly staring up at the sky. Look at this place, it's like a modern city from my old world, but even more futuristic-looking.

Movies and shows were common now, they'd even figured out how to make animated stuff, video games were also a thing now, music was flourishing, and so on...it was like a dream.

And outside of the Rustlands, it was absolute chaos. As a result of the relentless despair I'd caused, a lot of people began to lose it, and crime became rampant on the outside.

Murder, theft, rape, assault, you name it, all of it was commonplace now. Even a handful of the members of the other races had fallen into those dark temptations, something that had been thought to be impossible, but it looks like they just needed an extra strong push into it.

I was ecstatic when it started happening, my actions has resulted in all these people who'd been desperate for their peace to be maintained, now actively ensuring that there would never be peace again.

But now, I was bored of it all. It just wasn't piquing my interest, not at all. I was craving a challenge...everything's just been way too easy after killing Shiro.

If I can get a good challenge to keep me entertained, then I'll probably be able to enjoy all this stuff a lot more too. 𝗳𝙧𝐞𝚎w𝗲𝚋n𝚘𝙫𝑒𝘭.𝑐om

Hm, what's this? Someone's sneaking up on me...I can feel them approaching through my sensory Support Magic.

I can use any number of Support Magic in tandem now, I've worked on it a lot, which just goes to show how bored I've been.

So, will this would-be assailant give me the challenge I'm desiring? Hah, yeah, no, I sincerely doubt that. His movements feel slow and clumsy, he's probably not even an Adventurer.

Ah, looks like he's closing in now, and based on the way I'm sensing how his body and arms are positioned, he's probably holding a knife or dagger or something. Maybe a gun, but if so, he's holding it all wrong.

Well, not that it really matters. It's gonna take a whole lot more than that to kill me. But he's welcome to try...go on, surprise me, do something beyond my expectations!

"Die, you monster!" He yelled, as he dashed towards me and drove a dagger towards my back.

Ugh, seriously?

I sidestepped to dodge and then grabbed his wrist, breaking it with a swift twist, eliciting a cry of pain from his as he dropped his dagger onto the ground with a clang.

"If that was really the best you could do, why even bother?" I scoffed, as I stared down at him disdainfully.

"Y-you...you bastard...! You took...everything from me! You violated my wife, and then brainwashed her into hating me and sleeping with other men! I'll kill you...you'll pay for what you've done!" He snapped with a look of hatred in his eyes.

Normally, I love these expressions, but I've been seeing so, so many of them lately, that I'm kinda over it.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. You can die now," I stated, as I used one of the new Extra Magics I'd gained, called Venom.

By slashing someone with my claws, I can infect them with a lethal venom that kills within five minutes, and their death will be absolutely agonizing. I'll just leave him here to writhe in pain till he dies, he won't be able to move.

Damn, I'm bored, wish something would happen already...

"Well...I guess this is it for me, huh?" Smiled Rai, before letting out a slight cough.

"Yes...it would appear so. Your heartbeat is slowly but surely weakening. In just a matter of minutes...you will be dead," I replied, feeling a sense of sorrow.

It was a strange feeling, one that I had not ever felt before...certainly not towards a human. Ever since I became a part of Abyss...I have gradually changed, there is no denying that.

Two years ago, Key Angor had died of old age. Rai mourned her, but did not let himself succumb to his sorrow, instead he put all that he had left into ensuring that Abyss would continue to prosper even after his passing.

Luell had also died, five years ago...the development of our spells had slowed down drastically since then, but he had single-handedly advanced our nation to incredible proportions, it is unrecognizable to what it used to be.

"It's too bad...I was holding out hope that Kuro and the others might break free before I die. But I guess that was being too optimistic, huh?" He remarked with a wry smile.

"Perhaps...do you have any messages that you would like me to pass on to them?" I inquired, as his vital signs dropped further.

"Oh, right, I almost forgot...there's a Spell Card in my drawer, Key and I recorded a message on it, give that to Kuro. You're gonna be around by then, right?" He responded with a weak grin.

"Of course. I will not die, this current body is close to its limit, but I have already secured a new one to inhabit once that time comes."

"Good...Abyss needs you. Just keep doing what we've been doing for all this time, 'kay?" He requested as he held out his fist towards me.

"Very well, understood," I nodded, as I bumped my fist onto his.

"Heh, no need to be so formal, dude...we're friends, after all."

"Yes...we are."

"You know, while I do regret not living to see the others again, I have to say...I've lived a great life in this world. I'm...I'm happy with what I've done. I got to spend so many years with the person I love, peacefully. But...I'm tired now. So tired...," He muttered, his eyelids starting to flutter.

"Yes...yes, you can rest now," I replied quietly.

"Rest, huh? Yeah...yeah, that sounds...that sounds nice...," He trailed off as his eyes shut close, his body going limp.

"Rai?"

There was no response...his vital signs had all faded. He had a smile on his face, a peaceful, content smile...a truly blissful expression...
