Educated Youth in the Countryside: She is the Village's Embroidery Queen!-Chapter 468: Full Package or Half Package?
Tang Ruoqing thought for a moment and felt that stamping was no problem for her mother, but, "Which department’s stamp are we using?"
That’s a good question, and Yi Chichi was dumbfounded.
She looked confused, "What government departments are there now? Which one is Auntie in?"
It was fine until she asked, and only then did she realize, there are indeed many government departments these days.
They can generally cover construction, public security, foreign trade, and foreign economic liaison, among others.
Tang Ruoqing’s mother was in the foreign trade department, which is quite fitting for the task.
With that clarified, Yi Chichi said, "We can just use the stamp from the department Auntie is in."
"No problem, I’ll leave the stamping to my mom!"
Her mother was the second in command in the foreign department, so it wasn’t a big issue.
So, the stamping matter was settled just like that.
Next, they had to choose the size and design of the twin lotus.
There were two kinds of Su Embroidery screens, the small screen with a smaller size and the large screen with a larger size.
The large screen, also known as a floor screen, was much bigger than the small tabletop screen.
The former is suitable for desktop decoration, while the latter is good for home decoration in living rooms.
The large screen comes in various sizes, and Yi Chichi listed out all the options for them to choose from.
Tang Ruoqing and Yu Ritang looked at the size chart intently for a while, asked many questions, and after a fierce discussion and negotiation, they decided on a 90CMx35CM painting size.
The size after framing was not something they needed to worry about; they could find a craftsman to customize the frame themselves.
Then came the embroidery pattern.
Tang Ruoqing thought she would draw the pattern on the spot, but instead, Yi Chichi pulled out a stack of embroidery patterns from a box, "Take a look, these are all twin lotus patterns!"
Tang Ruoqing, "??? You drew so many in advance?"
"Just in case," Yi Chichi explained with a smile, "Drawing the pattern on the spot takes time; having them ready is more convenient."
That made sense too.
So, she silently pulled Yu Ritang over to look at the patterns.
A total of thirty-six twin lotus designs, each with different shapes, colors, and settings.
The two of them looked and looked, and soon faced a dilemma of choice.
"I feel like each one is beautiful."
Yu Ritang stared at one with a dragonfly on it for a long time and said, "I like this one."
"The atmosphere is just beautiful, with a sense of calm elegance."
Yi Chichi’s mouth twitched a bit but said nothing.
Tang Ruoqing found another twin lotus she liked and said, "I want this one, I don’t know why, it just makes me feel happy looking at it."
Yu Ritang looked over and noticed a magpie holding a flower in its beak on a branch in the corner of the twin lotus painting.
The water below made the magpie and flower faintly visible, with fish trying to chase the flower in the water.
"What do you think of this one?"
Seeing her silence, Tang Ruoqing couldn’t suppress her urgency and asked.
Yu Ritang scratched her head, "I don’t know which one Auntie would like."
"It has to be the one I chose; my mom’s preferences are similar to mine."
Tang Ruoqing immediately perked up, exuding confidence from every pore.
Yu Ritang, infected by her confidence, nodded, "Then let’s go with the one you chose."
So, this embroidery pattern returned to Yi Chichi.
She asked, "Are you sure this is the one?"
"This one!"
Alright then.
She pulled out her notebook to make a note, marked down the size and design, and then put down her pen, "Now let’s talk about the choice of embroidery thread and silk fabric."
"We need to choose this too?"
The two exclaimed in unison, filled with shock.
Yi Chichi couldn’t help but laugh, "You see, of course you need to choose, the embroidery thread and cloth come in many types, and the prices vary too."
"You can embroider with silk, silk thread, brocade, and even cotton."
She went into detail explaining the differences between the embroidery fabric and thread, and how different materials affected the result.
The two were initially interested but grew more confused as they listened.
It’s too complicated!
Seeing her about to keep going with her explanations, Tang Ruoqing quickly interrupted, "Mr. Yi, stop, we just want to know, which type does the Friendship Store use most?"
"Silk and silk thread."
Without hesitation, Yi Chichi answered, and after exchanging looks, Tang Ruoqing and Yu Ritang said in unison, "We’ll use that."
"Using silk fabric and thread comes at a high price, you need to be mentally prepared."
"How much?"
"Eighteen hundred."
Yi Chichi mentioned the price and then added in the face of their shocked expressions, "Of course, if you can prepare the materials yourselves, I can charge just the labor fee."
All-inclusive and partial inclusion naturally have different prices.
"How much is the labor alone at minimum?"
"Twelve hundred."
"..."
The two slightly opened their mouths in silence.
This is more expensive than buying a job.
Beyond that, they didn’t know where to get silk fabric and thread.
Even if they had connections, they didn’t know how much to prepare.
Taking a deep breath, Tang Ruoqing tentatively asked, "Is silk fabric and thread that expensive?"
"Expensive!"
Silk products have never been cheap since ancient times, and currently, they can’t be found on the market, mainly because almost all production is booked up by the major Friendship Stores due to limited supply.
Why is this happening?
It’s simple; silk products are not for the general public but are meant for Friendship Store customers who can afford them.
"Do you have a way to get it?"
"Have the Friendship Store send it."
What she brought back before couldn’t be used; new silk fabric and thread must be prepared for the twin lotus, with more color options.
At this point, she remembered something, "When is the latest the twin lotus is needed?"
If the timeline is too tight, the business deal would have to be declined.
Fortunately, Tang Ruoqing said it just needs to be done by next October.
Yi Chichi felt relieved and could accept the order.
"Are you going to prepare the materials yourselves or have me handle everything?"
The easiest option was to let her handle it all.
However, this cost was indeed high.
"Could the price be lowered a bit?"
"No."
She shook her head with a smile, "I already have two embroidery pieces to complete."
The implication was: whether or not to take your job is all the same to me.
A price reduction wasn’t an option.
"We’ll, we need to discuss it."
"Alright."
She stood up, giving them space, "Discuss it among yourselves; I’ll go add some wood to the fire."
And use the restroom.
As soon as Yi Chichi left, the two began their discussion.
"Tangtang, I still think this price is high, buying two jobs at the factory would cost about the same."
Yu Ritang knew she had a point, but they couldn’t compare like this.
The nature was different.
"The Yangcheng Friendship Store’s embroidery has never been cheap, especially since it earns foreign currency."
With one sentence, Tang Ruoqing was left speechless, staring at Yu Ritang for a long time with reluctance, "Is it embroidered by Mr. Yi?"
"I’m not sure if she’s the one, but didn’t you hear her? She’s a master at the Friendship Store."
"She’s too young though."
Yu Ritang instantly understood; she didn’t believe Yi Chichi.
This was easy to solve; she laid out the facts and reasoned, "My clothes are embroidered by her; you tell me if her skills are worth the price."
