Either E Or S Class: I Will Kill All Vampires.-Chapter 35: Ch : The Gala [3].
[Please, for the sake of mine and yours, don’t get caught.]
The ominous warning sent a shiver up his spine.
He checked his watch again.
11:56 PM.
He let out several sighs, trying to compose himself.
Selene walked back to him, with glassy eyes, steps slightly different from her usual stiffness, a smile on her face that wouldn’t go away.
It was clear.
Selene Foster was finally drunk.
She lazily closed the distance between her and Levi, resting on his arm with little to no grace.
Up close he finally confirmed it, from the faint red in her complexion and her breath when she breathed on him.
Levi smirked mischievously, it’s not everyday you find your trainer and the most in control person you know completely out of it.
He tensed his arm— trying to balance her weight.
Selene spoke, stuttering almost every word.
"You- you know Levi, I really like you."
’She’s really drunk.’
Levi couldn’t hold his laugh anymore.
"What are you talking about?"
"You know, youuu, I really like you Kane, you have little to no care in the world."
Her words dragged longer and longer.
Levi just shook his head, it was nothing more than amusing.
Trying to have a conversation with a drunk person was like arguing with a child— completely pointless.
He checked his watch again.
’SHIT! It’s 11:58 PM, I have to drop her off with someone.’
He cursed internally.
Scanning the room in a second before setting his eyes on a plush couch on the side where some elites were gathered.
He hurriedly guided her to the couch, navigating through the crowd of people and endless chatter before carefully setting her down.
Just as he turned—
Selene grabbed the hem of his jacket.
"Are you— are you leaving me?"
She muttered with the same sincerity and eyes of a child looking for her mother in a mall.
’Goddamn it.’
He tried to bury his heart mentally, he could’ve just dragged her hands away and it wouldn’t have taken much but she was... He didn’t even know how to finish that sentence.
He let out a sigh.
"No, I’ll be right back, I just need to get something."
She reluctantly let go of his coat.
"Alright, but come right back here."
He hurriedly turned away from her, drifting towards the service door as fast as he could until—
Mr Manhattan.
Blocked him like Eren looking at the wall.
’Why would anyone let me make it? I have to think, someway or somehow, I have to get out of this’
Mr Manhattan spoke first, "Kane, where most of our party, I haven’t seen a lot of them for a while now and I’m worried..." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Claire’s voice rose through the comms like a siren.
[LEVI! I know Manhattan is right in front of you but you have 30 seconds to get into that service door before it’s all over.]
[28]
The countdown began as Levi racked his head for numerous answers and solutions.
[26]
His eyes darted frantically all over the room, searching for a hail Mary.
[24]
Mr. Manhattan continued to chatter on and on about where the rest were and several other nonsense he couldn’t care less about.
[22]
’Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! I can’t just leave him talking or he’ll become suspicious and follow me.’
[20 seconds Levi, hurry!]
’it’s not that fucking easy’
He cursed internally, his hands fixed by his side and the beads of sweat rolling down the side of his face.
A server clad in a plain white t-shirt and a snug vest walked by with full glasses of champagne standing perfectly on the tray.
’Thank God.’
He pretended to follow Mr. Manhattan’s words for a second, timing it just right—
If it was too early, the server would stop and if it was too late, it’d seem planned and even more suspicious.
Like threading a needle, walking a tightrope or flying through a narrow gap— it looked extremely simple but required incredible precision."
[14 seconds!]
’oh fuck it!’
He took the step back.
As if faith was on his side it was perfect.
~Kkrshh.~
He ’stumbled’ into the server, making his spill all his drinks onto Levi.
Completely drenching his coat.
Everyone turned as even the music stopped.
A silent smile curled in his head as the smell of champagne lingered all around him causing everyone to turn.
But he had no time, instead of portraying the usual confused guest.
He immediately turned to the server, asking a question he already knew the answer to.
"Where’s the restroom?"
The server froze for a second, half expecting Levi to hit him, throw a fit or at least insult him but Levi was calm.
Eerily so.
He stopped picking the shards of glass from the glasses, swiftly wiped the beads of sweat from his forehead and raised a finger towards the service door.
Immediately he aimed, Levi wasted no sprinting for the door, completely ignoring Mr Manhattan and the guests turned to him.
The countdown ran in unison with his thumping heart, he could hear both in his ears.
He quickly pulled the door, swinging it open with one arc feigning anger as the only thing that people might understand.
He slammed the door behind him and didn’t spare it a second more.
He barreled down the stairs as quickly as his legs would let him.
Claire’s direction of where the archive room was, already etched into his brain.
The narrow stair led to a similar sized corridor, he turned left then bolted straight down.
Before turning again and seeing the door.
~Clink.Clink.~
It was locked.
’Again, I keep forgetting about locked doors.’
He reached for his hair, pulling the pin tying it up in a bun and tangling it with his fingers.
[6 seconds Levi, he’s closing in on your location.]
He leaned against the wall, dragging a hand down his face before he saw something shimmer in the fluorescent light.
It was the hairpin he just discarded—
He dropped instantly, turning the pin into the lock and jamming it and twisting over and over until he heard the sound of validation.
~Click.~
He felt the knot in his heart slightly loosen when the door finally clicked open.
He swerved his head as the boots of a figure and the shadow of his silhouette slowly came into view.
He immediately pushed the door, entering and clicking it slowly behind him as he slumped to the floor.
