Elf Kingdom: Game of the World Tree-Chapter 342 - 325 Platinum Dragon King
Chapter 342: Chapter 325 Platinum Dragon King
Nidhogg’s memories were filled with ancient secrets.
However, what Eve was most concerned about was the reason the World Tree was besieged...
*Thinking about the first memory fragment she had seen, Eve furrowed her brow,*
"Would the existence of the World Tree lead to more and more True Gods?"
"Were the gods of faith worried that the existence of the World Tree would continually enhance the power of the plane’s beings, eventually threatening their status, so they decided to strike against the World Tree?"
"Is this...the truth behind the Thousand-Year War of the Gods?"
The first reason took her by surprise a bit.
However, upon deeper thought, she understood.
The normal operation of the Segis Plane required appropriate intelligent beings.
And the normal operation of the Segis Universe also required suitable mythical creatures.
Hela had once told her that the World Tree itself indirectly created the True God of Faith and could indeed be considered the "mother" of the gods of faith.
So, given the nature of her predecessor, to keep the Segis Universe operating normally against the backdrop of the decline of the ancient gods, she might indeed have gradually supported more beings to ascend to godhood, replacing the role of the ancient gods.
To her predecessor, perhaps the True God of Faith was to her like how she shaped the Elf Clan for the role of the Segis Plane.
However, elves were secular creatures, and as a mythical creature, the World Tree could perfectly control this race, but the status of the True God of Faith was no lower than hers, and she couldn’t completely control them.
So...as time passed, things always deviated somewhat.
All beings had desires, even True Gods were no exception.
Those who had already ascended to godhood naturally didn’t want to see more beings ascend, diluting the power of the world’s laws.
Of course, this was merely Eve’s speculation...
As for the second reason, it was similar to her earliest speculation.
The [Absorption] ability of the World Tree could indeed continually raise the energy level of the entire plane, and as the plane’s magic power level rose, ordinary intelligent beings would also benefit.
Faith was born from reverence.
If the overall power of the believers became too strong, theoretically, it could indeed pose a threat to the gods.
However, Eve felt that upon closer inspection, there was something amiss with this reason.
Because from various historical signs, even if the World Tree could elevate the plane’s energy level, this process seemed to be extremely lengthy.
The World Tree could influence only one plane, while the entire Segis Universe was not just this one plane.
It’s just that the World Tree was located in the largest, oldest, and most rule-perfect Main Material Plane in the universe.
Under such circumstances, the True Gods had every opportunity to gradually transfer believers, establish new faiths on other planes, raise more "sheep," escape dependence on the Segis Plane, and had no reason to insist on fighting the World Tree to the death.
Especially since such a struggle came with the risk of breaking the Segis Plane, and in fact, the war of the gods a millennium ago did deal great damage to the Segis Plane...
So, if you think carefully, you’ll find that the two reasons in Nigrod’s memory regarding the siege of the World Tree were not the fatal reasons, at least...not the reasons for the gods to immediately turn against the World Tree.
"It must have been some unforeseen change that prompted the gods to decide, in the short term, to eradicate the World Tree! For instance...the former World Tree was about to advance, and post-advancement, the absorption speed might increase rapidly, and even her strength itself would significantly increase, which made the gods feel threatened."
*Eve speculated in her heart.*
*She had reason for this speculation.*
Various signs showed that her predecessor, the World Tree, was indeed quite the benevolent one.
If she hadn’t been a threat as a True God herself, no one would have dared to strike against her.
When she had escaped the brink of death, she already knew that the form of the World Tree was not singular, and her current form was only the initial stage, while her predecessor had been in a state of powerful divine power for so long, she might truly have been on the verge of breaking through.
As to whether the World Tree’s body or certain abilities were coveted by the gods...
Eve had dismissed this early on during her crossing.
For if that were truly the case, even with the divine arts’ protection of the World Tree’s body for the past millennium, someone should have been monitoring the body, waiting for the opportunity.
But the fact was, although Eve had been revived for quite some time, no one had come to check on the World Tree’s condition.
Of course, it couldn’t be ruled out that her revival period was short, and a True God’s concept of time was quite different from that of ordinary beings...
*Yet...these were still speculations.*
But at least, based on Nigrod’s memories and combined with Uller’s previous words, Eve learned that her current situation was not good.
"No matter the reason, the gods were determined to destroy the World Tree."
"Merely posing as Hela was inadequate; I also needed to find a suitable identity to appear on the stage."
"As the number of players increased and their activity range expanded, their existence definitely wouldn’t be hidden for long."
"And the emergence of a large number of elves, along with the resurgence of the divinity of life and nature, was still likely to lead others to associate them with the World Tree."
"I must think of a way to completely dissociate myself from the World Tree, ideally eliminating even the risk of my body being discovered, and give the players a justified identity..."
"Judging from Death God Hela’s and the Winter and Hunting God Uller’s attitudes toward me, they could distinguish my difference from my predecessor; perhaps...this could be a starting point."
"I must do these things quickly, as the bigger a stir I caused in the Segis World, the greater the risk of being discovered."
Gradually, Eve had some ideas forming in her mind.
*Having a course of action in mind, Eve once again focused her attention on the giant cocoon containing the larger "Mairrel."*
"I never expected...that Mairrel was actually formed from Nidhogg’s Dragon Crystal and some of his flesh, merged with the World Tree’s essence of life, which explains why when I first saw it, I felt an inexplicable affinity and instinctively wanted to take it in as a clansman."
Reflecting on certain scenes from Nidhogg’s memories, *Eve felt a slight sense of realization.*
The essence of life inherently had a transformative effect, and when it lost control and merged with Nidhogg’s Dragon Crystal and some of his flesh, it finally transformed into a new dragon egg, giving birth to new life, which was quite natural.
In other words, Mairrel was closer to Nidhogg than his blood kin, *so no wonder their souls were drawn to each other.*
This also indirectly explained why the Little Black Dragon, though not fully grown, had a dragon’s might comparable to an adult Black Dragon, with strength far surpassing its peers.
Its origin was indeed unusual, having been refined from a piece of flesh from Nidhogg, and the finest piece at that.
As for the Silver Dragon in Nigrod’s memory that attacked him...
Eve found related information in the World Tree’s legacy, revealing it was an ancient Dragon God, with strength comparable to Nidhogg, making him an old rival.
He had a nice title,
The Platinum Dragon King—Reinhardt.
