Chapter 975: Chapter 66: The Appointment

Bologue stood there motionless, and behind him, Palmer pushed him several times with force, only to find he wouldn’t budge at all.

"What are you daydreaming about?"

Palmer was extremely nervous. From the ruins at the end of the passage, tremors and roars emerged as the Silent Ones advanced, hunting the two of them.

Bologue’s voice was hoarse, "Can you see it?"

"See what?"

Palmer followed Bologue’s gaze and his breath hitched. This time, even Palmer could see the pitch-black umbilical cord.

Like the powers of the Illusion Creation school, the umbilical cord was materializing continuously, as if it would become a real object in the next second.

What made the two even more uneasy was that the black umbilical cord was slowly squirming.

Bologue remained standing in place, the umbilical cord still moving and changing... It was the other end, the person connected to the other end of the cord, who was moving.

He was walking toward them.

"Bologue..."

Palmer clenched his Storm Feather, his inner unease reached its limit. He was beginning to regret such reckless impromptu decisions, and he complained about his own Blessing.

This string of misfortunes made it hard for Palmer not to wonder if it was related to his own luck.

The good news is, luck is conserved. The bad news, Palmer felt he wouldn’t survive until good luck came.

Just as the two were shocked by the changes in the umbilical cord and growing unease, there came a surge of Ether reactions from the corridor on one side. Palmer decisively threw out the Storm Feather and unleashed a Secret Energy assault.

The metal dagger shattered into a rain of metal, mixed with invisible Wind Blades, like a rapidly advancing shredder. After a brief flight, the glow of Ether surged, and high concentrations of Ether gathered to form a forward-moving Ether Barrier shield wall.

Palmer’s offensive caused it to be full of cracks, but that was it; unable to penetrate this thick defense, the Silent Ones flanked from behind the Ether Barrier.

Raising the Revolver, Palmer simply emptied the Alchemy Warheads, with Wind Blades mixed with deadly bullets accurately hitting the Ether Barrier. Amid repeated gunshots, the Ether Barrier shattered suddenly, and a leading Silent One was instantly turned into a cloud of blood mist.

Half a body and severed limbs fell to the ground, the following Silent Ones mercilessly stepped over the bodies. Bologue raised his hand and pointed at the corridor. The walls started to squirm, the next moment, countless Stone Halberd and Rock Spears broke through, like an interlaced spear formation, penetrating several Silent Ones along the shattered Ether Barrier that Palmer broke through.

They seemed to feel no pain, breaking the Long Spear, and advancing again. A scarlet curtain veiled their sight... This was no curtain but boiling blood.

Crimson blades emerged from the blood pool on the ground like mirrors, more Blood Spears rose from the ground, crisscrossing and standing tall.

In the short few meters of the corridor, it was filled with deadly traps controlled by Bologue, where Silent Ones had to leave several bodies with every step forward.

Bologue’s breathing gradually became heavier. The worries Palmer had feared still happened. To command the surrounding materials, Bologue needed to seize control prior to the Void Realm, further consuming Bologue’s strength.

"Don’t worry," Bologue knew what Palmer was thinking, "this is not a problem."

Bologue actively faced the Silent Ones; since it was inevitable, he would take the initiative to attack.

He couldn’t keep running forever, he must face this fate.

Bologue was reassuring himself this way.

In the narrow corridor, Bologue and the Silent Ones were getting closer. The opponent grasped two Ethereal Blades, and after a few critically wounded Silent Ones died completely, at this moment, the Silent Ones standing before Bologue had Ether intensity rising again, releasing pressure equal to Bologue’s own.

He raised his sword and swung!

The Silent Ones’ speed sharply increased, the Ethereal Blades freely changed form in his hands, shortening into radiant daggers to suit the narrow environment. One forward and one backward slashed toward Bologue’s throat, while Bologue swung the Envy Bite to meet the enemy.

Envy Bite swung out a huge arc, not even touching the walls, which then cracked to provide space for Bologue’s swing. Meanwhile, dense spikes from all directions stabbed at the Silent Ones, even the Deceitful Snake Scale Liquid became agitated, whistling to entangle with the Silent Ones.

The blades clashed, two forces of Ether collided, Negative Power User against Negative Power User, high concentrations of Ether in the narrow corridor sparked an extraordinary storm. Arcs of electricity and sparks rang out, a sharp screeching continued.

After a brief standoff, the Resentful Bite did not disappoint, severing the Ethereal Blade, cutting off the lethal ether flow, but this only destroyed one Ethereal Blade, as the other was already closing in on Bologue.

The Silent Ones focused tightly on Bologue’s heart; the strike had already advanced to Bologue’s chest. As the Resentful Bite was about to cleave the Silent One’s head open, another arm came from behind, grabbing hold of the pitch-black sword edge.

Another Silent One joined the battle, using his flesh and blood to hinder the Resentful Bite’s strike. His palm was shredded upon contact, only able to delay the Resentful Bite’s downward swing by a few seconds, but those seconds were enough.

The Light Forged Dagger had reached Bologue’s chest. Just as the Silent One thought he would pierce through Bologue’s chest, a strong aura of blood rose, and Bologue raised his other hand, spreading his palm open, with a crimson wound splitting open on it.

The blood that surged from beneath the wound writhed fiercely as Bologue’s blood seemed to boil. They flowed out incessantly but didn’t fall to the ground; instead, they coalesced in his palm into a blade of blood, steaming hot as Bologue clenched his fist.

Blood Forged Blade, infused with Bologue’s own ether, compounded onto the imperfect Ethereal Blade. The blood-colored sword light swelled, clashing with the dagger, needlepoint against needlepoint.

After a fierce encounter, all the lights suddenly dimmed, leaving only a streak of crimson, like a comet, gliding through the darkness.

Secret Energy·Commanding Decree.

The radiant dagger collapsed, the Blood Blade completely swallowed it, causing the Silent One’s ether to lose control.

The Silent One thought Bologue’s ethereal amount should have been near depletion by now, but those collapsed, uncontrolled ethers seemed summoned, rushing back into Bologue’s body, filling the depleted ether once more.

Not only those uncontrolled ethers; the patterns on the Silent One’s skin began to flicker violently. The Blood Blade bypassed the scattered ether, swiftly extending to strike the Silent One’s chest, piercing through his Rectangular Soul Critical.

The Silent One lifted his head, an eye full of malice meeting his gaze.

An overwhelming void filled the Silent One’s chest, feeling as though a bulimia nervosa attack had occurred, a gigantic abyss at the core of his soul ravenously devouring.

The ether within the Rectangular Soul Critical was extracted by Bologue, and the Blood Blade induced a siphoning-like effect, in an instant devouring all the ether within the Silent One’s body. His body began to wither, and the Alchemy Matrix’s luminance quickly dimmed.

Meanwhile, the ether response of Bologue, weakened, surged back again.

Protection·Soul Sucking and Essence Stealing.

Bologue exhaled a turbid breath, the Blood Blade mingling with the blood from the Silent One’s body, transforming into crimson tendrils that burst through his body, tearing him into pieces. Those Silent Ones following behind once again faced a Bologue at peak condition.

This time Bologue held nothing back. The freshly plundered ether was entirely unleashed; the crimson tendrils extended once more, growing like raging scarlet thorns, leaving a dense array of red mesh within the darkness.

So sharp it was, rampaging down the corridor like countless blades swinging, precisely striking each Silent One. The Ethereal Barrier managed to withstand the first few rounds of attacks, but as Bologue’s ether gradually broke through repulsion, with increasing waves of assault, minor scratches began to appear on the Silent Ones.

In the gaping little wounds, the blood boiled and writhed, like sowing a scarlet seed, aiding Bologue’s advancement past the Rectangular Soul Critical’s defenses, silently chiseling out tiny fissures in the Rectangular Soul Critical.

Detonate.

In an instant, numerous Blood Blades burst forth, like blood-colored flowers blooming from within, killing the Silent Ones at the same time. Together with the Protection·Soul Sucking and Essence Stealing, their ether was completely devoured, using bodies as nutrients, supporting the bloom of a sea of flowers.

As if the Death God passed through, extracting souls pending judgment from the corpses.

Bologue nurtured battle with battle, striding forward, turning tables on the Silent Ones, until they were killed or wounded in large numbers, with corpses strewn everywhere until the Defender’s ether response roared forth.

Palmer stood behind Bologue, gazing dumbfounded at the terrifying corridor completely covered in blood and corpses.

Beyond the pile of corpses, the Silent One stepped over the sticky blood, confronting Bologue, who showed no signs of relaxing, knowing the hardest battle was yet to come.

Ether surged around without any forewarning, a bolt of ether-forged thunder swept past Bologue, smashing through stones along the way, leaving streaks of cuts on Bologue.

Bologue kept a calm gaze on the Silent One. This was not the first time he had faced the Defender Tier Silent One, and amidst overwhelming pressure, Bologue surprisingly felt a slight excitement.

At the limit of drawn swords, the Silent One suddenly disarmed his combat stance, with the ether on him diminishing as though he had given up fighting Bologue.

Just as Bologue was puzzled to no end, clear footsteps echoed down the desolate corridor, growing nearer, simultaneously the umbilical cord on Bologue’s abdomen becoming increasingly tangible, seemingly about to materialize.

The Silent One stepped aside, revealing the slowly approaching figure in a black robe and the silver mask etched almost into Bologue’s soul.

Crossing blood and corpses, the Shadow King strode towards Bologue, attending this destined encounter, the deadlock of fate.
