Chapter 253: Steal the bride, kill the groom

The shadow guards cupped their fists before disappearing.

’’You have questions, brother?" Cardan asked, without raising his head from his wrist.

Aleister, who was standing at a distance, leisurely strolled towards him, ’’He is her father. What are you playing this time?"

Cardan chuckled as he placed his hand down and gazed at his elder brother, ’’He was the one who reduced her to that state,’’ he informed the man.

Aleister frowned. From his impression of Marcus Norwell, the man usually balanced the arguments between the siblings. And back in Daven castle, he had always been calm and composed.

Even though a year has passed, the grudge against Marcus Norwell was yet to be settled.

Aleister did not hold anything against Lucian and Luciana. Although they followed their father and tainted their hands in the man’s affairs, but in the end, they were more like wilful brats.

But the same could not be said about Marcus who went to Visteria with a purpose while controlling his children like marionettes.

Aleister detested such people who fiddled with their children’s lives as if they owned them.

’’Torture him properly,’’ Aleister said.

Although the man had not harmed Esme at that point, but if Marilyn did not come back then Marcus would have played his pawns.

The man had dispatched troops of shadow guards to follow Esme. At that time, Aleister had Rowan annihilate them all.

Cardan smirked, ’’Such things that come out of your mouth make my heart flutter at the realization that you truly are my brother.’’

Aleister rolled his eyes, "At the end of the day, he is her father. If you do not tell her about this, she might hate you. No gentleman abducts his future father-in-law and sends him to the dungeon.’’

Cardan’s smile turned wider, ’’When did I ever claim to be a gentleman, brother?" his eyes sparkled, ’’All along, she should have known that the moment she revealed who did that to her, I was going to twist that person’s neck in a deliberately slow tease. I have no use for things like morals if it means I have to see her crying in pain while I can do nothing other than stroke her wounds.’’

Aleister could not say that he did not agree with his words but as an elder brother, he pretended to be more rational, ’’We can discuss it with her.’’

Cardan rolled his eyes, ’’Let the poets sit and ink praises about their lovers’ scars. I am not a poet. I am going to burn the person who gave her the scars,’’ sarcasm dripped from his voice but in the next second, his gaze deepened as he looked at the sky, ’’She... is going to fall for every deranged bit of me. And by the time I show her my sanity and devotion, she would be mine. Nothing to hide, nothing to lose,’’ he ended his words with a low hum as if the taste of her being his could not be more delectable.

Aleister quietly glanced at the man for a moment before sighing. At times like this, he felt like they were molded from the same mold even though he refused to accept that he was equally crazed when Esme was mentioned.

’’Heard that your wife is getting married,’’ Cardan glanced at him. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Aleister narrowed his eyes.

Cardan raised his hands like a sweet boy as he smiled wider, ’’We can steal the bride,’’ his low words uttered a sweet promise as he finished his sentence, ’’Or kill the groom,’’ his wide smile no longer made him look like a sweet boy.

Aleister slapped the back of his head, ’’Always thinking about killing. You should be less cruel,’’ he educated the man, ’’Be more patient, kind, calm...’’ the thought of Esme getting married to another man made him halt, ’’Since I can teleport, let me steal her. You can kill him,’’ his voice trailed off.

Cardan arched a brow quietly as if he was trying to call out the man for his hypocrisy.

Aleister cleared his throat, ’’Yesterday when I left heaven, you were nowhere to be seen. So, I thought you were not coming with me,’’ But this morning, he was surprised to see Cardan here, sulking alone in the garden.

’’I wanted to come here with you but our old man has suddenly buried himself in the library with a few chosen priests,’’ Cardan sounded frustrated.

Aleister knew the possible reason behind Atlas going to the library. He must be trying to find a way to break the spells that Marilyn had cast on him and Cardan.

’’You left the castle after meeting those court members. With our father buried in the library, they were not letting me leave at all. They were worried that they are being abandoned.’’

Aleister’s lips twitched. He did not have any sort of fondness for those old court officials who kept clinging to him like leeches.

"Only after convincing them that we are just going to look around in the mortal world did they let me go,’’ Cardan clicked his tongue. After all, unlike the main gods, they were allowed to come here for as long as they wished.

Then, he met Luciana who got on his nerves by saying that she did not feel anything for him. A few weeks ago, he had similar thoughts.

He used to believe that she was just a treat to his eyes. Her beauty turned him on. That is what he wanted to believe but the moment he touched her lips, he knew how deep his heart had dipped for her.

On other days, he could have been patient with her but he was seeing after weeks and her words ticked him off.

So, he just ventured into the forests to calm himself down. Mind and body both.

...

The birds chirped as they returned to their homes. The faint colors of sunset had faded from the sky as it gradually turned dark.

With every step Luciana took, she heard the cracking of dried leaves under her feet.
