Chapter 265: Regained your—WHAT?!

’’You...’’ Luciana was speechless.

’’What are friends for?" Esme rolled her eyes at the woman’s exaggerated expressions.

Luciana glanced at Esme quietly for a moment.

’’To tell you the truth...’’ Luciana licked her bottom lips, ’’I never planned to do what my father wanted. I was trying to think of a way to trick him.’’

And that caught Esme off guard.

’’I want my mother’s belongings, Es. I truly do. I am so scared that as I grow old, I will lose the remnants of her memories. In a moment of weakness, I wanted to do what my father wanted,’’ Luciana shook her head, ’’But I am not going against my conscience again. If my mother was alive, she would have been so upset that I grew up to be such a person. She would never have been proud of me for throwing my conscience away even if I do it for her. I... do not want a burden on my shoulders anymore.’’

Esme froze, ’’Lucy, she is your mother...’’ A mother always had the purest bond with a child. She had not felt it but she had known it.

And in the past year, Esme had heard Luciana talking about her mother, about how much of a kind and righteous woman she was. About how she would have showered Esme with her warmth if she was alive.

Esme had grown fond of that woman just through Luciana’s words. So, she knew the extent of her friend’s love for her mother.

For her to say this... is it not suffocating her?

’’He said he will destroy her belongings. I would be heartbroken but for once, I want to do what I feel is right,’’ Luciana tilted her head, ’’Doing something that your heart does not consent to is so exhausting. I have done that many times in the past and every time, all I felt was strange suffocation. I have made my choice.’’

In her haste, Luciana did not notice how Esme did not dwell on her ’I am not going against my conscience AGAIN’ words. If it was other times, then Esme would have asked about that.

Esme paused for a moment before she said, ’’If she was alive, she would have been proud of you.’’

Luciana closed her eyes when she heard Esme’s words, ’’One can wish.’’

Esme did not know why Luciana thought so less of herself. She called herself a surface kind of woman who had no depths, a vain mermaid who loved sparkly things, evil, this and that.

But in Esme’s eyes, Luciana was like that lotus that bloomed in the murky waters and rose from the mud without stains.

Everyone can follow their morals, hold their ground, and do the right thing. But can anyone still do the right thing while battling with their inner demons, their conscience, their circumstances, and with swords hanging above their heads?

Many people would waver. When the wrong choice comes with no hardships and gives an easy way out, many people drop their morals and stagger there.

Luciana was not doing it now. She has not been doing it in the past year.

’’Since you told me a truth of yours,’’ Esme started speaking in a conspiratorial tone as Luciana frowned, ’’Now, it is my turn.’’

’’Huh?" Luciana straightened up when she saw the mysterious expression on her face, ’’Did you do something behind my back...? Is it about Ale...Prince Aleister?" she was alerted. Didn’t Cardan say he was going to meet his brother? But thinking back to the view where Aleister was sitting with another girl, she had left in a rush, upset by Cardan’s actions so she did not know what Esme had done.

Esme had been claiming to hate him since the day she saw him but she was still conflicted about her feelings, ’’Heavens, Es, did you try to kill him?! Hit him?" Luciana was alerted, her eyes widened like a deer’s.

Esme did not know whether to laugh or cry, ’’Am I a person like that?"

’’You... you said you want to kill him and claimed to hate him.’’

’’It is quite the opposite,’’ Esme lowered her voice, ’’I have regained my memories, Luciana Norwell.’’

’’Oh,’’ Luciana patted her chest, ’’You almost scared me. I thought you killed someone with the way you were acting eerily.’’

Esme did not respond.

’’But as it turned out, you just regained your—WHAT?!" As the words sunk into her head, Luciana’s mouth hung open.

Esme nodded, ’’Memories are back,’’ she pointed at her head.

"_"

Luciana was thunderstruck for a few good moments, ’’You... That is impossible,’’ she poked her arm, ’’You are still alive. Your body is not drying up. How can that be? Are you teasing me?"

’’Are you Aleister?" Esme narrowed her eyes.

’’Huh?" Luciana blinked dumbly.

"Why would I tease you when I have my man to tease?" Esme scrunched her face in disgust.

’My man’

This arrogance. This haughtiness.

It reminded Luciana very much of Esme’s nemesis phase in her life, ’’You... You...’’ she shook her head in disbelief.

’’Stop stuttering like a fool,’’ Esme sighed in disapproval, ’’I do not know what happened but I regained my memories when I lost consciousness yesterday. And nothing happened to me.’’

Luciana hugged the sheets tighter as she looked at the woman like she had seen a ghost.

’’You do not believe me,’’ Esme stated when she saw the disbelief on her face.

’’Who is the Prince of Visteria?" Luciana asked warily.

A/N: Hello everyone! Can’t believe I wrote the first sex scene of this book after 250 Chapters "_" The r-18 tag of this book would have something to say about it. I am just letting you know that I suck at writing these scenes in general so do tolerate it if it was not up to the mark ><. I truly suck at sex scenes and what more, writing in historical settings is a real pain because I can’t even use many words so do ignore a few slip-ups here and there :D
