Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 286: Little fruit has regained memories
Esme turned to glance at Jeremiah who was on his knees, ’’I beg for an explanation.’’
Rezeph looked just as amorous as before as if he had no hand in Jeremiah’s pathetic dilemma.
Esme was speechless. Now that he was begging her, what explanation was she supposed to give?
I was lighting a candle, and the ballroom caught fire?
Or, you know, fire burst out of my hands. It was unintentional.
’’I am the one giving an explanation,’’ Rezeph waved his hand like an excited child and stepped forward, shielding her behind broad shoulders, ’’I brought her here on her request to stimulate her powers to placate her. My dear daughter is getting married to you in a few days and she came crying to me, sobbing about how she felt inferior compared to you.’’
A certain dear daughter: "_"
Even she was not as thick-skinned and sly to be able to lie so blatantly like that.
She felt like she overestimated herself. Compared to the King’s ability of deception, she was like a sheep who had not seen much of the world.
Jeremiah looked regretful, ’’I apologize. I misunderstood my Es. I thought she had been hiding her powers from me...’’
Esme suppressed the urge to roll her eyes. This man... He must really want to gain something important through her to be able to still act like this after being humiliated in such a manner.
’’Get out of my sight. Go handle court affairs,’’ Rezeph waved his hand again.
His tone resembled something like—’Your face makes me sick early in the morning’
How Jeremiah was able to walk out after such grave shame? Esme had no idea.
As Jeremiah stepped out of the ballroom, his gentle expression disappeared, and his face darkened. Good. Very good.
All this humiliation of today... he would make certain to return it to Esme on their wedding night by hundred folds.
...
Inside the ballroom, Rezeph turned to look at Esme, ’’The next time you practice your powers, go to my room or the throne room. Those are not places where someone would barge in just like this.’’
Esme was speechless. He would let her summon hellfire in the most essential places in the castle. Wasn’t he afraid that she would burn them to ashes?
Did he not notice that it was hellfire in the first place? Esme frowned. The King was powerful and he had been observing her for so long while she practiced in this ballroom then why did he look so calm about it?
And not to forget that he was the one who made that huge fire disappear without leaving a trace of it.
’’Earlier, you were flustered so you lost control of it,’’ Rezeph’s words diminished her doubts.
He knew it was hellfire, ’’Do you have that ability too?" she whispered but he did not seem to have heard her as he shrugged calmly.
Did he not hear her or not pretended to hear her?
Just like God Zephyr, King Rezeph possessed hellfire too?
Esme froze. Zephyr. Rezeph.
The names...
But in the next moment, she realized that she was overthinking adequately to draw a similarity between the both of them.
All the previous Kings of Defire were named after God Zephyr.
’’And if you want to master your mind controlling abilities...’’
Esme snapped out of her daze when the King said that.
’’Then, I will let you practice it on me,’’ he smiled at her, ’’You can’t harm me with your adorable little powers.’’
Adorable little powers? Esme almost puked a mouthful of blood. You didn’t have to humiliate me like that.
But her eyes sparkled as she thought about it, ’’You will let me practice on you?" Even though it was upsetting, it was true that she could not harm him with her powers and by the time she was able to control his mind, even for a moment, she would have mastered most of this art.
He nodded.
’’I am grateful, Your Majesty,’’ Esme stepped back and did a curtsy.
Rezeph rolled his eyes, ’’What did I ask you to address me as?"
Her lips parted. She hesitated for a moment but in the end, she decided to voice her thoughts. He has always been kind to her so she owed him honesty.
’’I never had a father or a mother. I don’t know what it is like to have one. I won’t be addressing you as such because it will only be like a noose around my neck. Making new ties and being responsible for them is not something I am very promising at. I am harsh, bitter, and cold. The people I love, I end up hurting them the most."
She lied to her Aunt and upset her just to send her back to Visteria. Even though she did it for her Aunt’s safety, the woman had been hurt by her words.
She did not appreciate her elder brother’s care for her and pushed him away but in the end, he was fatally injured by Cardan. She never admitted her feelings for Aleister, not until she almost lost him.
All her life, she had been a person like that.
She did not regret her past because it could not be undone but that did not mean she was very proud of it.
’’For as long as I was here, you were kind to me. When I leave, I would remember your kindness,’’ As soon as she had finished speaking, she realized what she had uttered, ’’I would forever remember your kindness and cherish it,’’ she curtsied to him once again and left the ballroom calmly. In her panic, she did not notice his strange expressions.
The moment she uttered, ’I never had a father or a mother’, Rezeph lost all his playful expression.
His eyes were dazed as he listened to her words.
It was not until she spoke about leaving did he came out of his daze.
Leave?
A soft smile crept on his face, ’’My little fruit has regained her memories,’’ but that smile faded when he thought further about it.
What if she fled with Atlas’ son?
He felt a headache just at the thought of it.
...
After Esme left the ballroom, she went to Aleister’s room.
The guards curtsied to her.
’’Is the Prince up yet?"
’’My Lord has not stepped out since morning,’’ one of the guards responded.
Esme nodded at them and entered the room.
Since they were Aleister’s guards, they must have been ordered to not stop her because they let her in easily.
Esme pushed open the door and stepped inside before closing the door behind her.
Her gaze wandered around in the empty room.
There were no signs of Aleister.
Her brows tugged together when she remembered that Aleister did not necessarily need to walk out of the door to go somewhere. He could teleport.
And as it looked like, he did not seem to be around.
She turned around to leave. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
’’You want something, my dear moon?"
The voice made her halt in her tracks.
Esme turned to look at Aleister. His damp hair fell over his forehead and water trickled down his neck, disappearing within the creak of his silk robe.
Esme swallowed, ’’Um... I can come later if you want.’’
’’You have seen me naked. What are you still being shy for?" the man said calmly as he walked towards the bed.
It was as if he had completely forgotten about their fight.
Esme hesitated to speak.
’’Come here,’’ Aleister sat on the bed and extended his hand towards her.
Esme walked towards him. As soon as she was within his reach, he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her onto his lap, ’’Tell me what you were thinking about,’’ he said.
’’It was not easy for us to find each other. It was not easy for me to regain my memories and remember you because everyone used to tell me how I will die if I remember my past. Isn’t it too soon to fight and evade each other?" she whispered without raising her head to look at him.
’’Who is fighting with you?" Aleister tilted her chin with the tip of his index finger. Under her confused gaze, he spoke up, ’’I don’t want us to hide things from each other. Especially when the said things are something like black magic. Your safety shall not be compromised.’’
’’You kept shouting at me yesterday...’’ she met his gaze.
’’My fault. I apologize,’’ Aleister cupped her face. He knew he should not have reacted in that manner but when she told him that Jeremiah might possess black magic, his thoughts wandered off to the whole year she had spent around that man without her memories.
Jeremiah could have done anything to her because practitioners of dark powers had no inhibitions. Just one momentary distraction and one would be in their trap.
’’I know you are worried about me but the reason I could be carefree is that I can feel that I have some use for Jeremiah. There must be some reason he wants to marry me so desperately.’’
Aleister pinched her face, ’’My sweet Esme knows everything, huh?"
Esme pouted, ’’I thought we would not be talking for days.’’
’’How can it be?" He would die without talking to her for days. Not seeing her for hours already made him feel sick so he kept sleeping. How could he survive days without her? "So, will you keep things from me now?" he glanced at her beautiful face, expecting her to shake her head and tell him that she will never keep secrets.
But the woman smiled and nodded.
Aleister’s face darkened like the bottom of a pot.
Esme cupped his face and kissed his forehead, ’’I am not keeping secrets. I am protecting you,’’ she said righteously.
He wonder where she picked up this ability to twist words.
Aleister chuckled bitterly, ’’You treat me like I am fragile,’’ he had never been protected by anyone in his life.
When he was young, he was the one protecting himself in the Enchantment forest and later on the battlefield.
