Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 342: Useless and fleeting
The renewed hope in his heart died the moment when he saw how terribly Aleister seemed to be suffering.
’’It is not possible,’’ As if Rezeph could read the thoughts in Duke Maverick’s mind, he spoke up, ’’Aleister does not have any ability to revive the dead. It is against the nature. What he is doing right now, comes with a price that he has to pay later.’’
’’I...’’ Duke Maverick’s eyes moistened up as he looked at his nephew who was bruised and bloodied, seemingly hanging by a breath as he stood there mid-air. An intense golden glow was circling around him and the sight of the man seemed to be majestic yet all that glory did not hide the pain he was enduring, ’’I can see the price that he is paying.’’
Rezeph glanced at the man’s innocent face and sighed. Despite his unwillingness to reveal the truth, he spoke up, ’’This is not the price. This is the punishment.’’
’’What?" Duke Maverick’s eyes widened.
’’If he makes it through this punishment, then he will have to pay the price after that. He will lose his newly awakened immortality, and would be lowered to become a mortal again.’’
Duke Maverick’s lips parted, ’’He... What do you mean if he makes it through the punishment? My nephew is powerful... He..’’
’’Heavenly tribulation terrifies the strongest gods in the heaven,’’ In the past few days after they befriended each other, Duke Maverick got his curiosity about heavens satiated from Rezeph.
Hence, when he heard Rezeph’s words, he immediately understood the depth of the situation.
’’Don’t worry,’’ Rezeph patted the man’s shoulder.
When Duke Maverick looked up at him, Rezeph pointed his chin in a particular direction.
Duke Maverick followed his gaze and spotted Luciana and Cardan who were standing at a little distance.
...
’’What is he doing?" Luciana gasped the moment she arrived at the royal gardens. The flowers were still in full bloom and not even a single leaf was destroyed. The beauty of the view would make people doubt if the sight of doom hovering over them was real or just an illusion
The darkening sky and the burning thunder enveloped Aleister in a deathly gloom, as if struggling to dim the golden glow of his divine powers with every powerful strike that they sent his way.
Luciana gazed at Cardan in disbelief, only to find him frozen in spot.
’’He is trying to revive Rowan,’’ Cardan’s eyes narrowed as he raised his hand.
’’What are you doing?" Luciana grabbed his wrist, yelling louder as her voice got lost in the threatening roars of the thunder.
’’Destroying the body.’’
Luciana followed his gaze only to find it settled on Rowan’s body, ’’What?" she gaped at him.
’’He is just a servant. Pitiful, yes. But just a servant. I won’t say he deserved to die but which servant does not lose his life for his master?" Cardan curled his fingers into a fist, ’’What right does he have to make my brother risk losing his life just to revive him?"
Luciana did not understand what it was like to revive the dead and what were the consequences of it but she understood what Cardan was trying to do in that moment, ’’That is not up to you to decide,’’ she snapped at Cardan when he tried to pull his hand out of her grip.
The man’s gaze snapped to her face and Luciana stepped towards him, looking dead into his eyes as she enunciated each word, ’’Go ahead and destroy Rowan’s body but we both know that along with that one decision of yours, you would lose your brother too.’’
’’I am losing him already. The tribulations would kill him. If they don’t, he will be stripped off his immortality and become an useless mortal, with a fleeting life than can easily pass in the blink of an eye.’’
Useless mortal.
Fleeting life than can pass in the blink of an eye.
Those lines were not meant for her but that did not stop them from sinking in her heart. And for the first time in a long while, Luciana was reminded of the gap between her and Cardan.
Is that how he saw her life as well? Useless and fleeting?
She inhaled a deep breath and said, ’’You have stayed at the Daven’s castle much longer than me to know the fact that Rowan is more of brother to Aleister than a servant.’’
’’But he will die. He is making a mistake,’’ Cardan frowned as he glanced at the pathetic state that Aleister was in.
’’As his brother, all you can do is try to save him. To help him out of the consequences of the mistake that he is making. From your eyes, it is a mistake but from his sight, it might be the only right thing to do,’’ Luciana rubbed her thumb on his wrist, trying to comfort Cardan.
’’He was sane and conscious when he made this decision and that is enough to state how determined he was. All of us have the every right to make our decisions. If we make good decisions, so be it and if they are bad we will learn from it. No one has the right to stop us from deciding what we want to do even if it is a wrong decision that we are making. You might be Aleister’s brother, but you have no right to choose for him. You have no right to decide what should and should not happen in his life.
All you can do is stand by him and support him through the things he has chosen for himself. That is all that you should do.’’
Cardan’s hand stilled and Luciana’s palm slid down his wrist till she was holding his palm, their fingers intertwined, ’’Maybe you do not say but throughout these years, you have suffered as well, haven’t you?’’ When he stayed silent, she sighed, ’’I don’t want you to face Aleister’s hatred. If there is a chance he can revive Rowan, then let him do it. You do not deserve his unforgiveness.’’
Her words, her gentle touch seemed to be providing Cardan with an invisible support that gradually calmed his anxiously beating heart.
