Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 10: She Is Mom
Henry Prescott was a little annoyed: "Why are you glaring at me like that? Our Prescott Family raised her, can’t I even say a few words to her?"
Silas clenched his knuckles so tight they cracked, "What did you say to her?"
"I just told her to recognize her place and stop dreaming about marrying you. Our family only took her in for her grandfather’s sake—we didn’t raise her to be your child bride. If she wants to be your bedmate, that’s her choice, but if she wants to be our daughter-in-law, I will never agree."
Hearing these words, Silas was so furious his face went white.
His voice was cold enough to be frightening.
"Who I want to marry is none of your business, and I don’t need your approval. Don’t act like you’re so high and mighty—in my eyes, besides being my biological father, you’re nothing else."
Henry Prescott trembled all over with rage at these words: "Silas Prescott, you’re going against me over an outsider? Believe it or not, I could have you thrown out of your CEO position tomorrow!"
Silas sneered, not the least bit impressed: "If you really had that power, Grandpa would never have passed you over and made me the heir. Mind your own business. My affairs don’t need you worrying."
He shoved the Sterling Family heiress’s photo into Henry Prescott’s hand, making a ’please leave’ gesture.
Henry Prescott gritted his back teeth in anger: "Silas, this is the Sterling Family’s heiress! Not only is her family background great, but she’s also beautiful, talented, and refined. Marrying her would be the icing on the cake for our family, and you just don’t appreciate it?"
Silas replied mercilessly: "If you think it’s such a pity, why not marry her yourself? It’s not like you haven’t done things like this before."
That one line almost made Henry Prescott choke on his own rage.
He pointed at Silas and cursed: "You little bastard, how dare you judge me! Do you really think no one can put you in your place? This isn’t up to you—wait till your grandfather wakes up, I’ll have him deal with you."
With that, he stormed out in anger.
After watching him leave, Silas sat down on the sofa and lit a cigarette.
The heavy nicotine couldn’t even begin to calm his frustration.
His mind was full of images of his father seeking out Sienna Paxton.
He didn’t believe his father had only said a few harsh words—there had to be something even crueler.
Sienna is so timid and always obeys the Prescotts; she must have heard those things from his father and that’s why she’s determined to leave him for good.
After hearing such horrible things, she must have been devastated, but to him, she didn’t say a word.
From that moment, his Sienna had started keeping secrets from him.
Had she already stopped loving him?
Thinking of this possibility, Silas pressed the cigarette butt hard into his palm—the burning pain still couldn’t chase away the ache in his heart.
He couldn’t help but murmur softly, "Sienna, you promised to love only me, never to leave—why did you still abandon me?"
No one knew how much time passed before the butler came down from upstairs.
"Sir, the young master seems very odd today. When he got home, he locked himself in his room and wouldn’t let anyone in—not even me. I’m worried something’s happened to him."
Silas immediately collected himself and went straight upstairs.
Sure enough, Julian Prescott’s bedroom door was locked from the inside.
He knocked a few times. Quite a while passed before there was any movement inside.
Julian opened the door just a crack, his shiny black eyes blinking up at him.
It was as if to say, What are you doing here?
Silas rapped him on the head and asked, "Sneaking around again—what mischief are you up to?"
Julian mimed that he was getting ready for bed.
But he hadn’t even changed his clothes or showered—obviously lying.
Silas bent down, scooping him up as he walked, "Then I’ll sleep with you."
Julian shook his head quickly, pulling out his phone to type.
[I’m grown up now. I won’t let Daddy sleep with me.]
But right as he raised his phone for his dad to see, a new message popped up.
Sender: Mom.
Julian quickly tapped on it—it was a voice message.
"Julian, sweetie, it’s already ten o’clock. Time for bed! Auntie has to do surgery for your grandpa tomorrow and really needs rest tonight. Go wash up now, okay? Good night."
Chloe Nash’s words seemed to have been spoken while lying in bed—gentle and soft, so different from her icy demeanor during the day.
When Silas heard the voice, his heart clenched hard.
Why does this voice sound so much like Sienna’s?
He instantly played it again, and it still sounded just like her.
Was it because he missed Sienna too much, or was there some connection between Chloe Nash and Sienna?
Why did he always see glimpses of Sienna in Chloe Nash?
Julian hurriedly snatched his phone back and messaged Chloe Nash.
[Good night, Auntie, love you, MUA.]
He also sent her a little gif of a bear kissing its mom.
Seeing him like this, Silas couldn’t help but pinch his cheek.
"You like her that much? You’ve never said that kind of thing to me."
Julian quickly typed some words on his phone.
[She’s Mom.]
Those words gave Silas an indescribable feeling.
The thing Julian wanted most was a mom.
The doctors had said before, if he could have a patient mother by his side, it would help his condition a lot.
But his mother had already died on the battlefield. Where could he find another?
Still, for Julian’s sake, he could only pretend and say his mother was just lost, and that he was still searching for her.
Feeling guilty, Silas ruffled his son’s hair: "Sorry, it’s Daddy’s fault. I still haven’t found your mom."
Julian typed again.
[Auntie is Mom.]
Silas couldn’t understand why his son was so attached to Chloe Nash, or why he always thought she was his mother.
But he couldn’t let him keep fantasizing anymore. If, one day, he realized Chloe Nash wasn’t his mom, the pain of disappointed hope would only make his condition worse.
It was better to break his hopes now.
He spoke seriously to him, "She’s not your mom—she’s just a doctor who understands you, Auntie. Don’t start imagining things. Go wash up and sleep. Tomorrow Daddy has to go to the hospital."
Julian didn’t believe him, pouting stubbornly and carrying his pajamas off to the bathroom.
Silas picked up his phone and opened Chloe Nash’s Moments feed.
Her feed was set to show only the last six months.
There were just two posts, both about her medical research.
This was nothing like Sienna at all.
The Sienna he remembered loved to share every beautiful moment.
Even a delicious meal had to be posted to her feed.
She said she posted those things not for others, but so she could remember them in the future.
But in her feed, all the happiness that belonged to them stopped five years ago.
Thinking of this, Silas set the phone aside, put his hands over his face, and murmured painfully,
"Sienna, are you really so cruel? Don’t you want me anymore?"
What he didn’t know was that Julian had already taken the phone, holding down the record button for a secret voice message.
