Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 136: President Prescott’s Schemes Are More Numerous Than Honeycomb Briquettes
Caden Sinclair’s anger made his fingers creak in his grip.
He had long wanted to beat up this scoundrel of a man.
If it weren’t for him bullying Sienna Paxton back then, she wouldn’t have rushed to the battlefield, and the child wouldn’t have died there, becoming her eternal pain.
Just as tensions peaked between the two, Mr. North emerged from the kitchen: "Silas, I don’t quite know how to cook this king crab, could you do it?"
Silas Prescott replied warmly, "Uncle, just leave it there, I’ll handle it."
Mr. North saw Caden Sinclair at the doorway and quickly called out, "Young Sinclair has arrived, come in and take a seat, chat with your aunt a bit, I’ll make dinner for you."
"Alright, thank you, Uncle."
Hearing their conversation, the frustration bottled up inside Silas Prescott finally dissipated.
He was no longer the distant ’Mr. Prescott’ rejecting everyone.
He smiled at Caden Sinclair and said, "Dr. Sinclair helped Aunt with the surgery, I specially bought a king crab to thank you, just wait, I’ll make it for you."
Caden Sinclair incredulously asked, "When did you become so familiar with Uncle?"
Silas Prescott raised an eyebrow, "This is how family addresses each other, it’s people you’re not familiar with that get called using their given name."
Saying this, he rolled up his sleeves and walked into the kitchen.
What others didn’t know was, at the moment he turned, the deep eyes that couldn’t show much emotion now briefly flickered with a sense of victorious joy.
Caden Sinclair glanced at Chloe Nash and quietly asked, "What does he really mean by this? Trying so hard to please your parents, could he have discovered something?"
Chloe Nash shook her head, "I don’t know, but I always feel there’s something odd about him."
"If he really has found out, what do you plan to do?"
"At most, he might suspect but won’t have any substantial proof; no one in the world can prove I am Sienna Paxton."
Caden Sinclair gently patted Chloe Nash’s head, "Don’t be afraid, I’ll be here, even if he discovers something, I won’t let him harm you."
When the meal was ready, Jett Sterling arrived too.
Everyone brought the food to the table, and Silas Prescott removed his apron and went to the bedroom to call Julian Prescott for dinner.
Julian Prescott was sitting on the bed looking at a photo album, his little legs crossed, appearing both adorable and focused.
Silas Prescott went over and ruffled his hair, "What are you looking at so intently?"
"Looking for Mommy."
"Aren’t all these your Mommy?" Silas pointed to photos of Chloe Nash.
Julian Prescott shook his head like a rattle drum, "That’s not Mommy."
Suddenly, he discovered a photo of Sienna Paxton and Chloe Nash in the album, identical to the one Silas held.
The little guy pointed at Sienna Paxton in the photo and said, "This is Mommy."
One sentence made Silas Prescott’s heart sink sharply.
Julian Prescott called Chloe Nash ’Mommy’ daily, yet insisted Sienna Paxton was his real mother.
Could it be that from the first sight of Chloe Nash, he knew she was Sienna Paxton?
Silas Prescott found this incredible.
So he tentatively pointed at Chloe Nash’s photo and said, "Isn’t this the Mommy outside?"
"No, this is Mommy." Julian Prescott’s chubby little hand pointed at Sienna Paxton again.
Only then did Silas Prescott believe Julian had always identified Sienna Paxton as his mother.
From their first meeting, when he called her ’Mommy,’ he knew she was Sienna Paxton.
But why would he feel this way toward a stranger?
Even if he’d often shown Julian pictures of Sienna, telling him she was Mommy, he’d never met her, and given that Sienna had returned with a new face, how did Julian recognize her?
If they were biologically mother and son, there might be a heart-to-heart bond explaining it.
But there’s no blood relation between them.
Does his son have some special ability?
Silas Prescott was about to put the photo away when he noticed there was another hidden beneath it.
His curiosity piqued, he took it out to see.
Upon seeing who was in the photo, Silas’s pitch-black eyes narrowed slightly.
The people in the photo were Mrs. Nash and Claire Channing.
Even at their teenage years, Silas couldn’t mistake the unique mole between Claire Channing’s brows.
So, Claire Channing had known Mrs. Nash in their youth.
That was the answer he had been seeking but couldn’t find.
The photo was under the ones of Chloe and Sienna; he couldn’t just take it out to ask Mrs. Nash, which would reveal he had seen Sienna and Chloe’s picture.
Silas placed the photo back, picked up Julian, and said, "Let’s go, let’s eat or we won’t have seats later."
Sure enough, when they came out, Jett Sterling and Caden Sinclair were seated beside Chloe Nash, ’kindly’ waving Silas over.
"President Prescott, you’ve worked hard today, we saved a good seat for you, next to Uncle and Aunt."
Silas smirked inwardly.
How could those two possibly be so considerate?
Yet he showed no displeasure outwardly, instead approaching with a smile tugging at his lips.
Gently asking Julian, "Where would you like to sit?"
Julian pointed at Chloe Nash, "I want to sit next to Mommy."
"But your Mommy’s seat is taken by these two uncles, what would you say?"
Julian politely nodded at Jett, "Uncle, I want to sit next to Mommy, can you give me the seat? Thank you, Uncle."
He bowed and saluted, making Jett feel sheepish.
Jett glared at Silas, "I’ve seen thirty-year-olds who still rely on their parents, but not who rely on kids at thirty."
He scooted over one spot, expecting Julian to sit, only to see Silas holding Julian and taking the spot himself.
He said confidently, "I’m afraid he’s too young to behave and might disturb your meal, I need to take care of him."
With that, he picked up chopsticks and placed a piece of crab on Chloe’s plate, eyes full of gentleness, "I made this crab with salted egg yolk, try and see if it’s to your liking."
"This is garlic crab legs, and this is cheesy crab sliders, all flavors you love."
Soon, Chloe’s plate was piled high.
Witnessing this, Jett jeered, "Rumor has it that President Prescott is very cunning, but your scheming is worse than a bee’s nest."
Silas laughed it off, "Thanks for the compliment."
Mr. North, seeing them bicker, lifted his wine to change the subject.
The meal finally officially began.
After a few rounds of drinks, Silas suddenly asked Jett, "Is there any conclusion on Aunt’s case?"
Jett nodded, "As you expected, that woman named Tina Armstrong confessed, her husband owed a million in high-interest loans and was hunted down, and she paid it off for him; I suspect the money came from Claire Channing, yet I haven’t found evidence." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Mrs. Nash, surprised, asked, "Why would this person target me? We have no grievance or animosity."
In his phone, Silas found a photo of Claire Channing and handed it to Mrs. Nash, "Aunt, please take a close look, do you really not know this person?"
Upon seeing the photo, Mrs. Nash froze, "I know this person, but she’s not Claire Channing, she’s Iris, an orphan my father sponsored; after he passed, we lost contact. Later I heard she married a policeman and had a daughter."
Upon hearing this, Jett widened his eyes in disbelief, "Claire Channing was married before she wed my dad?"
