Entering Apocalypse in Easy-Mode-Chapter 585: Too Tired
Clyde kept walking through the living streets, his steps steady despite the ruined ground beneath his boots.
The city groaned around him. Buildings twisted, walls flexed, windows opened and closed like blinking eyes.
The air felt restless as if the world was searching for something to crush.
Then a shadow dropped from above.
Mina leaped down from the side of a building that had not yet fully come alive. She landed hard in front of him. Her boots skidded across broken concrete.
Before Clyde could react, she rushed forward and wrapped her arms around him, holding him tightly.
"I was worried," she said, her voice shaking. "I thought I lost you."
Clyde froze. His hands hovered awkwardly in the air, unsure of what to do.
He had faced monsters, gods, and World Masters without hesitation, but this caught him completely off guard.
After a moment, he exhaled and returned the hug. One hand rested lightly on her back, the other patting the back of her head in a stiff, unfamiliar motion.
"I’m fine," he said quietly. "Let’s find a place to hide first."
Mina pulled back but stayed close, nodding quickly.
They moved again, weaving through streets that refused to stay still. Houses slid sideways. Doors slammed shut on their own. Entire buildings lifted themselves from the ground on shifting foundations, dragging chunks of road with them.
Finding shelter was far harder than Clyde expected. Even the building Mina had hidden in earlier began to groan and stretch, its walls bending as if waking from sleep. They can’t use it to hide anymore.
"We can’t find anywhere to hide," Mina said while keeping pace beside him. "I’ve been circling this city for hours. Every building is starting to come alive. The only places that don’t move are the safe zones, but they’re already full."
Clyde did not answer immediately. They kept moving, adjusting their path whenever the city shifted to block them.
This scenario would not end until tomorrow. The city would keep moving, hunting, and reshaping itself again and again.
Could they really keep this up until then?
Mina glanced at him and suddenly slowed. Her eyes dropped to his hand.
"Wait," she said. "Where’s your spear?"
Clyde looked down at the weapon in his grip. The pale bone sword, a blade shaped like something torn from a corpse.
"It’s broken," he said.
Mina’s eyes widened slightly. "Is that the Demonic sword from the Lunar Beast nest?"
"Yes," Clyde replied. "I had to use it. The enemy there was very strong."
She hesitated before speaking again. "What if it’s corrupting you?"
Clyde turned his head and looked at her. He smiled, calm and familiar, the same expression he always wore when things were at their worst. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"I’m fine," he said. "This won’t be a problem for me."
That smile loosened something in Mina’s chest. The tension in her shoulders eased, and her breathing steadied again.
"If that’s what you say," she replied, "then I’ll believe in you."
Clyde nodded. He let out a tired sigh and slowed to a stop for a moment as another building scraped past them.
"Alright," he said. "We don’t have a choice. Let’s enter one of the safe zones. Even if we have to kill to get in, we’ll do it. I’m too tired. I need to rest."
Mina did not argue. She tightened her grip on her weapon and nodded once.
"Okay."
They turned toward the nearest safe zone, stepping into streets that writhed and shifted.
They found a safe zone at last. It sat where the foundation of a house used to be.
The building itself was gone, torn from the ground and wandering somewhere else in the city. Only the reinforced base remained, glowing with the system’s barrier.
Inside, it was not crowded or full at all.
Clyde scanned the area with a sharp glance. Men and women stood around in loose clusters, they were rough-looking and loud. They wear scarred armor, and have crooked grins. Weapons held carelessly, but with confidence. They were thugs. Every one of them.
He counted quickly. Twenty. The limit was fifty.
"That’s just twenty people," Clyde said calmly. "We can fit there."
Mina’s expression tightened. "I don’t think they’ll accept us," she whispered. "They look like trouble."
Clyde let out a tired breath. His shoulders sagged just a little.
"It’s fine," he said. "Let’s go. If they want to fight, then we fight. I’m too tired to keep moving."
Mina hesitated for half a second, then nodded.
They ran toward the safe zone, boots pounding against cracked ground as the city shifted behind them.
As soon as they crossed into view, the people inside noticed.
"Look at that," a woman muttered, elbowing the person beside her.
Heads turned and eyes followed. Then their smirks spread.
"One of them’s a girl," a man chuckled. "Heh."
Another man, larger than the rest, leaned forward. His grip tightened around a sword that gleamed with the unmistakable sheen of a system weapon.
"That man have a nice sword," he said. "I want it."
Clyde and Mina stepped fully into the boundary.
"Stop there," a voice barked.
Three men walked out from the group, blocking the entrance. The biggest one stood in front, broad shoulders stretching his armor, his grin slow and ugly.
"Why?" Clyde asked, his voice flat. "There’s still plenty of room."
The man snorted. "No, there isn’t. Unless I say so."
His eyes dropped to the Demonic sword.
"Hand over your weapon," he continued. "Then maybe I’ll let you in."
Clyde stared at him for a second. Then he sighed and turned his head slightly toward Mina.
She understood immediately.
Mina stepped forward, drawing both daggers into her hands, blades flashing into place.
"Oho," the big man laughed. "You want to fight?"
Slash.
The sound was sharp and clean.
The man’s laughter cut off as his head slid free from his shoulders. Blood sprayed across the ground as his body crumpled, collapsing without even realizing he was dead.
Silence slammed down over the safe zone.
Clyde stepped forward, Demonic sword humming softly at his side, his eyes cold and exhausted.
"Does anyone else have a problem with us staying here?" he said quietly.
