Eternal Cultivation of Alchemy-Chapter 2780: Wugin Langwan
Chapter 2780: Wugin Langwan
A single member among the many individuals in charge of escorting Alex made it back to the Endless Night sect.
As soon as the narrow-faced man returned to the sect, he immediately sought for the sect master.
The sect master of the Endless Night sect was a man of little history. It was unclear to many as to who he was before he became the sect master. As far as anyone was aware, ever since the Scarlet Rain when the sect had to reform, he had become the sect master.
Even his name, Wugin Langwan, was not as widespread as it should have been.
The sect master was overlooking a vast array of newly arrived disciples training in a formation array when the report got to him. His thin lips stretched in contemplation as he thought of what he needed to do.
"We cannot let anyone who’s killed our sect members go unpunished. Have the third elder go with you. Find this criminal and bring him back to me," the sect master ordered.
The narrow-faced man nodded feverishly and made his way to find the third elder to take her away with him. The distance they needed to travel was less than a day away, so they immediately flew over.
They returned 2 days later and found the sect master once more.
"You returned without the criminal?" the sect master asked. "Who am I meant to punish then?"
The third elder bowed suddenly. "Forgive me, sect master, but it appears we were wrong about what had happened. When I went over to check, I found everyone’s corpses, including many beasts in the area."
The sect master raised his eyebrows. "Beasts? Why were the beasts dead?"
"Death," the third elder said. "I saw her."
The sect master narrowed his eyes. "Are you certain?"
The third elder nodded. "It was Death who killed everyone, not that man they were bringing. I fear he is dead among them all."
The sect master remained silent for a long time. "I hear the 4th elder’s grandson was among that group. Is that true?"
The narrow-faced man nodded. "He was. So was the seventh elder’s nephew, the first elder’s great-grandson, and many recent elders."
The sect master nodded. "You are dismissed," he told the narrow-faced man.
The man paused for a moment, wanting to say something else, but he nodded nonetheless and walked away.
"Have the elders been notified of what has happened?" she asked. "If not, I should go deliver the news. We should also tell the newer elders to be more alert of their surroundings outside of the sects. They let the incident inside of the ship distract them from seeing where they were going. They should have long since noticed Death and diverted the ship."
The sect master remained silent for a moment longer.
The third elder watched him for a while and stood to take her leave.
"Is it their fault though?" the sect master said suddenly.
"I beg your pardon, sect master?"
"Why should they look out for Death? Why should we fear Death so much?" he asked.
The third elder was confused. "It’s... Death. What else are we supposed to do?"
"Anything. We are the Endless Night sect. Why should we fear Death so much?" the man asked.
The third elder searched for anger in the sect master’s words, but she found none. He wasn’t driven to say these things by any negative emotions, so she was surprised to see that he truly meant these words.
"But what can we do, sect master?" the third elder asked. "This is Death we’re talking about. She’s a walking calamity. Messing with her will mean a second Scarlet Rain. I don’t believe we want to go through that again."
"You don’t have to warn me about that," the sect master said. "I know how scary that is. And worse, I am sure she was still holding back when that happened. But we must do something about it; if not for us, then for the others."
The third elder said nothing. "Do you have a plan?"
"Not yet," the sect master said. "Let me talk to the Grand Elder; see if he has something he can help us with."
The third elder left and the sect master remained where he was for a long time before leaving to find the Grand Elder.
The white-haired old man was in his workshop, working with large amounts of ores to extract pure metal from them. He alone worked in the forge despite many wishing to help him.
The old man didn’t allow anyone else to come in. This was his way to relax and he wanted no one else to disturb him during this situation.
The sect master walked in and waited for a while before the Grand Elder stopped and turned toward him.
"Why have you come here, Langwan?" the old man asked.
"You told me a long time ago that you were working on a very strong battle array. I wanted to ask how far you’ve come with it," the sect master asked.
The old man chuckled. "What brought this question?"
"16 of our elders died this week," the sect master said. "Dead at the hands of Death."
The old man clenched his fists. "Then you count your blessings that it wasn’t 17 and move on. Forget about her."
"I can’t," the sect master said. "You know as much as I do that her mind continues to degrade even now. She’s still missing it and she has no way of getting it back. She has been holding back from attacking the civilians, but for how long? How much longer before she kills us all without mercy?"
The Grand Elder replied in a stoic tone, "She is too strong. We can’t fight her."
"Not as we are right now," the sect master said. "But what about that array of yours? If it is ready, can we not fight her? You made it just for her, didn’t you?"
The sect master’s gaze was a demand that the Grand Elder could not meet right now.
