Chapter 52: Chilling Gaze

Beep! Beep!

The beeping sound of the medical machineries echoed in the room, slowly stirring a young man awake.

"You’ve opened your eyes, good. I was worried you were in coma."

A pair of blue eyes opened, stared at the white ceiling, then shifted to the face of the one speaking.

It was as expected, a nurse. She wasn’t particularly beautiful, nor did she have any redeeming features. However, she had a warm smile that made someone feel comfortable. Still, it was only that much. She was... uninteresting.

’A colorless.’

Kaiser thought. It had been a while he actively labelled those around him that way, and he usually didn’t want to. However, the recent event had somewhat reverted him to his old self. The one those in the clan were more accustomed to.

"I can’t believe you actually survived without my own specific healing ability."

The nurse said with a hint of credulity in her voice.

"Without?" Kaiser asked, signalling for clarification.

"When you were brought here, your injuries were severe and heavy. However, although I tried healing you, it didn’t work at all." She said.

Hearing her words, his lips curled downward slightly. Healing abilities were nothing special and could be used universally. Why was it that her healing ability didn’t work on him?

"To be more precise, your body was rejecting my healing. Instead, your own body generated crystalline particles that froze your wounds, then healed you... I think. Do you have an affinity for spiritual ice or something?"

Kaiser didn’t reply immediately, taking a moment to ponder.

’Crystalline... freezing wounds... healing... all these don’t match with my current stats.’

He had no healing ability or trait, and didn’t even possess an affinity for water or ice element. So how were her words logical?

’Those are words of a mere colorless anyway... I can’t decide based on something I didn’t witness.’

He tapped his forehead twice, then sat up at the edge of the bed. He was currently dressed in a patient gown, exposing his pristine legs to touch the cold ground.

’Cold? Was it always this cold?’

He curled his toes, immediately slipping his feet into a pair of slippers placed by the bed.

Seeing as he ignored her, the nurse’s smile stiffened, but she remained polite.

"Well, that’s not a problem. You’re fully healed now. You should be able to return to school with no problems. I’ve prepared your uniform. Whenever you’re ready, you can just sign the report on the table and take your leave."

She smiled radiantly, then left through the door, leaving him alone in the room.

’How nostalgic...’

Kaiser thought, looking at the faint scars on his hands dryly. It seemed being confined to the training grounds of the clan for years had dulled his cruelty.

"Well, not like it really matters. Instead..."

He dropped his hands to the side, staring into empty space as he remembered the look he had received from the cloaked girl.

’Ahh...’

A sense of vanity arose in him, slowly spreading as if cold water had been poured into an empty plate. Right there at that moment, he suddenly felt like flipping a coin.

’Uncle wouldn’t want this...’

He frowned, then tactically abandoned his bubbling thoughts.

"Let’s not dawdle over here."

Swiftly, he changed into his uniform, and left the infirmary.

...

After the expedition was dismissed, most students didn’t realize anything wrong, thinking they had just closed early. Although the instructors didn’t say anything special, students weren’t allowed to return to the dorms until the usual closing time.

So, every student was gathered in their respective class, having small discussions or playing with their smartphones. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

In Class-E, the students were divided into three groups. Those who surrounded Liam and Kiera, chatting about the huntings and exchanging thoughts or ideas. Those who remained solitude like Hazel or Ariel, immersed in their own work. And finally those who made idle discussion, centering around the idiot trio.

"Hehehe. Jose, did you get to see Annabelle’s thighs in that armor? Damn! It was so erotic!"

Eric said with a perverted grin, not bothering to lower his voice at all. At this point, the girls in the class had labelled him as pathetic and no longer paid attention to his words.

"I didn’t witness that. Instead, it was Miss Ysabella who’s the cutest. In that mage armor, she looked so loving I wanted a hug."

Jose replied with a voice akin to a squeal, giggling to himself.

Unlike them, Logan didn’t really comment directly, but nodded along with them.

"Hey, did anyone notice that pretty blue boy? I heard he got injured and is in the infirmary."

He suddenly asked, looking at the empty seat beside Hazel. The others around them also turned to look, finally noticing the missing student in the class.

"Hm? Did he get himself injured?" Jose snickered, laughing lightly.

"Who knows? Perhaps he got maimed by a mere Awakened Beast." Eric added.

"So he was all face but no brawn. Useless."

Logan snorted, no longer interested in the case.

On cue, the door to the class slid open, and Kaiser walked in. His eyes scanned the room briefly, then he went directly to his seat. He plopped down, resting his head on the table as if tired.

Seeing such an attitude, Jose’s voice rose. "Kaiser guy! Why don’t you tell us what got you injured so bad you had to go to the infirmary to get healed, huh?"

A peal of laughter erupted among the boys, all jeering at him.

Kaiser remained inactive for a few seconds, then slowly turned his head towards them. Because his head was on the table, a portion of his hair covered one eye, leaving only one eye visible.

When they made eye contact with him, their laughter abruptly ceased. It was something inexplicable, even for them. Their expressions turned weird as if water had been forced down their throats.

Indifferent to their sudden change in behavior, he closed his eyes and resumed resting.

’Fuck! What was wrong with that eye?!’ Jose panicked inwardly, his own eyes quivering slightly.

If he was to describe it, it felt like any more words would result in something he absolutely wouldn’t want—something that could be a threat to his life. Unconsciously, he felt a chill on his neck, making him shiver.

Before he could dwell further on the topic, someone stood up and walked towards Kaiser.
