Eternal Life Starts from Tai Chi-Chapter 104: The Problematic Servant Disciple
"Pharmacist Yang, an injured disciple was just brought in. He was wounded in the left chest and poisoned. His condition is pretty serious."
Yang Chan had just finished absorbing the wispy Purple Qi that appeared at sunrise. Before he could even open a medical book, he heard Han Bingyu’s anxious voice from outside the house.
Yang Chan didn’t delay and got up at once.
"Let’s go. Get the Healing Medicine and Antidotes we prepared yesterday, and bring all the gauze for dressing wounds."
Yang Chan gave Han Bingyu the order as he saw her, not breaking stride as he walked straight into Room Geng. Inside, he saw an Official Disciple whose face had a bluish tint. His breathing was faint, and his condition was critical.
"He was injured this morning during the changing of the guard. A civilian suddenly rushed out and attacked him. He’s one of the disciples who came down the mountain with us."
"He wasn’t vigilant enough. When he saw the person, he didn’t attack immediately, which led to this."
Han Bingyu brought the items Yang Chan had requested, along with various medications to stop bleeding, and explained the disciple’s situation to him.
Yang Chan’s brow furrowed slightly as he listened. ’Someone’s already been hit, and so soon.’
He recalled hearing that before they left the mountain, these disciples had been briefed on the situation in Tan City. An injured disciple had even been brought in to personally recount how he’d been wounded, all to make the Cyan Yuan Sect disciples more vigilant.
’I can’t believe someone got injured this quickly.’ This man’s condition was terrible, especially the poison in his system, which was quite severe.
"Pharmacist Yang, this is the Qi Nourishing Soup."
Han Bingyu brought over another bowl of Qi Nourishing Soup. It was to replenish his energy first, just to keep him hanging on.
"Have him take the Antidote first, then give him the Qi Nourishing Soup."
"His condition is too critical. If we can’t get the poison under control, no amount of medicine will do any good."
"Give me the gauze. I’ll bandage his wound."
"We’ll do all we can. The rest is up to fate."
Yang Chan took the gauze and began to bandage the chest wound. The poison had already entered his system. Right now, they could only stop the bleeding. Otherwise, he would die before the Antidote even had a chance to work.
"Keep a close eye on his condition for a while."
Yang Chan added the reminder as he watched Han Bingyu feed the disciple the Qi Nourishing Soup.
Although he had done a lot, the disciple’s condition was so critical that his chances of pulling through were slim.
If he had taken an Antidote right when he was poisoned, he could have held on for a while longer, and his condition would have improved somewhat.
The man had been poisoned for too long. He likely wasn’t discovered at first. They must have only noticed his condition later on, given him an Antidote, and then sent him back here.
Missing that critical window of time was why his breathing was now so faint. He was, for all intents and purposes, beyond saving.
This type of poison was potent, and it worked very fast.
After checking on the injured disciple, Yang Chan went to see the patients he had treated the day before. He had treated many people in the Pharmacy and had grown accustomed to such sights.
’Life seems robust, but it’s often incredibly fragile. So fragile that a single, tiny accident is all it takes for someone to be gone.’
In the face of this, Yang Chan could only be careful himself, giving no quarter to accidents and doing everything to prevent them.
’Natural disasters are difficult to avoid, but man-made calamities can be.’
As the sky brightened, more and more injured disciples were sent back. Within a single morning, Room Geng, where Yang Chan was stationed, was already at capacity.
Most of the injured disciples were from the group that had just arrived with them. In contrast, the disciples who were already in Tan City before had suffered few injuries.
A few unlucky ones had been killed on the spot. The rest were either poisoned or wounded, but most were in treatable condition. This told Yang Chan that the No-Life Evil Cult was likely targeting those who had just come down from the mountain and must have dedicated significant resources to the effort.
’Otherwise, there wouldn’t be so many injuries among the newly arrived disciples.’ This put Yang Chan on high alert. After all, the Pharmacists, himself included, were also among the newcomers.
If the No-Life Evil Cult was targeting the newcomers, they would surely not overlook the Pharmacists.
For example, all the injured disciples currently in Room Geng depended on the Pharmacists and Pharmacist’s Assistants for treatment. If something were to happen to them, these patients would have no one to care for them, and the situation would become even more dire.
At this thought, Yang Chan called Han Bingyu and the others over.
"The No-Life Evil Cult is targeting the new arrivals from the Cyan Yuan Sect, and that definitely includes us. So from now on, when you eat, drink, or prepare medicine, check everything an extra time. It’s for your own good."
"The next time I see you, I don’t want it to be in a medical bed. Or even worse, to not get the chance to see you at all."
"This is my advice, and a warning."
"There will be many people to treat during this time, so stay sharp. The No-Life Evil Cult will surely be annihilated by Elder Gu, Elder Lü, and the others. This will all be over soon. I won’t say any more than that. I just hope you all watch out for yourselves."
Yang Chan looked at the four Pharmacist’s Assistants. Aside from Han Bingyu, whom he had chosen himself, the other three had been assigned to him. Though he hadn’t personally selected them, they were working together, so he still offered a word of caution.
As for anything else, it was out of his hands.
If they were careless and died, they would only have themselves to blame.
"Thank you for the warning, Pharmacist Yang. We understand."
Led by Han Bingyu, the other Pharmacist’s Assistants all nodded seriously. As for their true intentions, he couldn’t be sure.
"Alright. Go on back to your duties."
Yang Chan nodded.
Saying too much about certain things could be counterproductive. He had made his point once and didn’t plan to say more.
The three Pharmacist’s Assistants left, but Han Bingyu remained behind.
"Pharmacist Yang, this is some intelligence I’ve gathered. Most of the injured disciples were wounded by Servant Disciples of the Cyan Yuan Sect. I’m afraid there are still people from the No-Life Evil Cult among those Servant Disciples."
Han Bingyu produced a piece of paper on which she had recorded information gathered in Room Geng. It was clearly intelligence she had gleaned from the injured disciples while treating them.
Yang Chan understood her intention. This was her way of responding to his earlier warning. Clearly, she also sensed there was a problem with the Servant Disciples.
Within Tan Yun Mansion in Tan City, the only people with easy access to the Pharmacists and Pharmacist’s Assistants were the Servant Disciples. The Official Disciples were basically beyond suspicion, unless the No-Life Evil Cult’s Evil Techniques were so powerful as to make it possible.
Therefore, they now needed to be wary of the Servant Disciples and anything they brought over. Both the people and the items themselves could be problematic.
This was a hard lesson learned from the deaths of the previous Pharmacist and Pharmacist’s Assistant in Tan City.
"Mm, I understand. You should set up some traps in your room at night as well. Just as a precaution against a sneak attack."
Yang Chan nodded, reminding her once more.
’Han Bingyu was an excellent choice. She was a great help to him, her intelligence-gathering was top-notch, and her abilities were outstanding. He hoped nothing would happen to her; otherwise, he’d have to spend time finding a replacement.’
