Eternal Master: Path to Godlike Status-Chapter 27: Hidden Agenda Part 4
CRACK
The egg spiderwebbed, then melted into a pool beneath a standing skeleton.
Rain’s body began regenerating, and the black pool rose to form a jacket around him, covering his skin up to his neck. The jacket had a modern design and a leather-like texture.
Clenching his fist, Rain felt his hand, now covered by the glove, as if there was nothing there at all. The sensation was exactly the same as when he was naked.
Alicia’s hands met with a resounding crack. "The Veil of Gluttony... you truly tamed it?" She struggled for air, her eyes wide with excitement.
"What happened to the Will of Gluttony?" Alicia pressed. Her eyes scanned him, searching for a change in his aura.
Rain turned to her. "So, you do know about that pig creature. Did you really have to omit the part where it would devour my very soul?"
She didn’t look guilty. Not even a flicker. Instead, she offered a thin, honeyed smile.
"Of course I know. But I had faith, Rain. I trusted you to handle it. So... the Will?"
"It fed too much. It bloated, then it simply exploded. Now, I have full control of this thing." He looked down at his hands, where the dark substance twisted.
"It still feeds on my body constantly, but my regeneration has already adapted."
She jumped in delight, clapping her hands like a child.
"Stop the nonsense, Alicia. Tell me why you really gave this to me."
The excitement faded slightly from her face. She still wanted to enjoy teasing him a little more.
"Very well. It’s not like I can keep fooling you forever. You’re right. There is one more reason I need you by my side."
His eyes narrowed. "And what is it?"
Alicia’s hand drifted to her chin, her thumb tracing the line of her jaw as she studied him. Her smile didn’t widen; it just became focused.
"I want you to help me take over the whole Church."
Rain tucked his hands behind his back. He didn’t show any reaction.
He simply stood there, a pond of stagnant water against her manic light.
"Why?" His question was devoid of judgment.
Alicia’s smile didn’t just fade; it widened. She began to pace around him.
"The Church preaches protection. From their golden thrones, they claim we are isolated because our gods are shielding us from outsiders."
She stopped abruptly, her face inches from his.
"Lies. The Church is the wall. They’re holding the door shut from the inside, and I want to destroy it."
Rain remained composed. "If the world outside is as twisted as the rumors say, perhaps a locked door the right choice."
Alicia’s hand flew to his chest, her fingernails digging into the flexible dark fabric.
"While our priests cower in the dark, the Chosen Ones are summoned from other worlds, breeding without end."
"My people spend decades training for power; they gain gifts simply by surviving Rites in their nightmares. Does that sound fair?"
She leaned her forehead against his, her voice dropping to a whisper.
"I won’t let them have what is mine. If the Church won’t open the door to conquer the world, then I’ll break the Church—and I’ll take the world before they can even knock."
Silence stretched between them. Rain was no stranger to war, nor did he really have an opinion on it.
Still, he had to admit he was curious about the kind of plot she was planning—and how she intended to win.
"Your grand scheme means nothing to me. But I have nothing better to do, so I’ll play along... until you outlive your usefulness. Consider this a warning: Cross a line I don’t like, and I’ll kill you on the spot."
"YES!" She hugged him tighter, delighted by his death threats.
