Even If I'm Reborn as a Cute Dragon Girl, I Will Still Make a Harem-Chapter 51Book 6: : Missing Name
“A stone tablet?” Lilith pushed herself up, rubbing her sore bottom, and glared irritably at the stupid stone tablet that had tripped her. “Who left this stupid thing lying around? What happened to public responsibility?!”
She frowned. “Huh? Wait… why does this stone tablet look so familiar…?”
It was only then that Lilith truly took in her surroundings.
Under the white, illusory sky, a vast plain stretched as far as her eyes could see. Ankle-high weeds swayed across the flat expanse, blurring into a horizon where heaven and earth dissolved like ink bleeding into water.
*Is this a small world?*
No, Lilith could tell that this place was different from a small world. It didn’t have the integrity of a small world. It felt more like a space constructed for a certain purpose… and it reeked of death.
The only intentional design seemed to be the weeds, probably to prevent this space from appearing too desolate.
The stone tablet in front of her was tilted and half-buried in dirt and covered in moss. It looked as though time itself had left scars on it.
For some reason… it reminded her of a tombstone.
These “tombstones” filled her entire field of vision, from her feet to the distant horizon. A rough glance told her there were tens of thousands of them.
*Tens of thousands… of tombstones?*
Lilith suddenly found it difficult to breathe. The sight caused a wave of dread crawled up her spine, like a deep-seated phobia clawing its way out.
The Dragon Monolith stood solemnly in the distance, surrounded by these “tombstones” like trees guarding a lofty mountain. If they really were graves, then…
“Is this… a dragon graveyard?”
Lilith had never heard of something like that, but even the dragons’ lifespans were long, they were not immortals. So, where would they be buried after they died?
Here?
But…
Her gaze swept across the “tombstones”. Each was spaced only a meter or two apart. At that distance, burying even a human-sized coffin would be a challenge, let alone a dragon.
Unless… it was ashes in the ground?
But that made no sense either. Dragons were massive. Even turned to ash, they would take up far more space than this.
And if these really were tombstones… why wasn’t there a single name engraved? Surely a gravestone, of all things, should carry the name of the one buried beneath it.
“Strange… This is really strange…”
Ever since returning to Dragon Island, everything had felt off. But… Lilith had a feeling that she was close… Very close to certain truth.
She stopped trying to piece together the impossible and pressed on, walking toward the towering Dragon Monolith at the center.
It seemed far at first, but the emptiness of the place was deceiving. She didn’t walk for long before finding herself standing before it.
Just as she remembered, the Dragon Monolith loomed vast and majestic. Its sheer presence inspired a deep, helpless sense of insignificance in her, as if she was an ant standing before a mountain.
But… was it her imagination, or was the Dragon Monolith less golden than before? It was still shiny, but the color had faded significantly.
*Is it my imagination?*
She had no way to be sure, but now was not the time to dwell on it. What mattered was that the Dragon Monolith bore the names of all dragons, each inscribed with a trace of their blood essence.
With it, Lilith could find those who had gone into hiding.
“But this… this is going to take forever.” She looked up at the dense array of names carved across the monolith’s surface. A heavy sense of despair settled in her chest. Lilith ground her teeth as she muttered, “When I find you guys, I’ll make sure you pay double!”
She crouched and was prepared to start counting the names from the bottom when…
“Huh? These names… they don’t carry any blood essence…?” She realized that the stupid long-a̲s̲s̲ dragon names carved on the Dragon Monolith were dull, lifeless. She couldn’t detect even a trace of blood essence.
Lilith clapped her hands as a flicker of realization crossed her face.
“Ah… right. These must belong to the ancient dragons who had passed away a long time ago. Once the main body dies, the blood essence fades too. That’s why they’re dull now.”
It might have been disrespectful to think this way, but she couldn’t help feeling a little relieved.
Since the names of the dead had faded, it was much easier to find the names of those who were still alive. Otherwise, she would have to spend a really, really long time. This truly saved her a great deal of trouble.
After silently thanking the ancestors in her heart, Lilith soared upward, skipping past the dim inscriptions.
There were only around a thousand living dragons left by her count. That might sound like a lot, but it occupied only a small section on the massive Dragon Monolith.
Lilith flew higher, heading straight for the top, where she remembered her own name was once inscribed.
“So there really were a lot of dragons over the ages,” she murmured.
The numbers were far beyond what she had expected. Perhaps those outsiders were right, the dragon race of today truly were a shadow of what they used to be.
Lilith couldn’t help but wonder just how powerful their race had once been, back in their golden era.
“Huh? That’s odd… Why haven’t I seen any of those idiots’ names yet?”
Her brow furrowed as her gaze swept the upper reaches of the monolith. The higher she flew, the darker her expression grew.
Every name she passed was dim. All of them. From the middle of the monolith to the very peak—not a single name shone with the aura of life or bore the presence of blood essence.
All were dull, just like the endless sea of “tombstones” below her feet.
Refusing to believe it, Lilith flew to the other side of the monolith and restarted her efforts. However, she still found nothing. Eventually, she finally spotted two names glowing faintly at the top of one side.
*Aterlieum Niger Gerald.*
*Artemis El Nino Regalis.*
The first was the Ancestor of Dragons—the source from which all dragons descended. The second was the current Dragon Queen, Lilith’s mother.
“Why…?” 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
When Lilith looked at these two names, her entire body felt cold for some reason.
Why, out of the countless names carved into this towering monolith, were only these two still shining and radiating such a suffocating, terrifying presence? Why were the names of those idiots dim on the monolith, just like the long-dead ancestors?
And most importantly… Why was her name missing? Where was Artemis Niger Lilith?
