Even If I'm Reborn as a Cute Dragon Girl, I Will Still Make a Harem-Chapter 58Book 6: : A Dream
“So… who are those guys I’ve lived with all these years?” Lilith asked the question with effort, forcing the words out as she tried to suppress the sick feeling rising within her.
“You already know the answer to that, don’t you?” Li Desheng replied quietly.
“Know? How could I possibly know something so… absurd…?”
“It’s absurd,” he admitted. “But if you rule out every impossible explanation, what remains, no matter how strange, is the truth.” He looked at her with something like pity, then continued softly, “And besides… you’ve already seen a similar story before, haven’t you?”
“…Ha…”
A strange sound escaped Lilith’s lips—half laughter, half a cry of grief. She clutched her chest as if something inside her was tearing apart. Her eyes stared blankly into the void, and her fingers dug deep into the soil.
“It was… all a dream, wasn’t it? Just like what happened with Cornelia. The so-called dragons I lived with… they were just part of the Dragon Queen’s dream, right?”
The dream of Cornelia, an ordinary deity, was already as real as reality. Given that the Dragon Queen was the strongest being from nine million years ago… What difference would there be between her dream… and reality?
That was why the Dragon Queen had set a law—no deities could be born in this world… because divine beings could see through the illusion.
That was why all the dragons had vanished so completely, so suddenly. It wasn’t a conspiracy. There was no grand scheme behind it. It was just a dream. The Dragon Queen had awakened, and everyone in her dream had disappeared. That was all.
“But… since she’s that powerful… Then why didn’t she just dream up real dragons? Ones who could exist beyond the dream… outside of this world? Like the Titans once did… They existed independently of the dreamer.”
“Haven’t you noticed that the Dragon Queen’s dream is different?” Li Desheng spoke softly, almost as if he didn’t want to hurt this helpless girl further.
“Different… how?” Lilith stared at him, dazed, struggling to think through the chaos in her mind.
Li Desheng, who had little hope that Lilith could piece things together on her own, let out a quiet sigh and began speaking slowly. “Poor Princess… haven’t you realized? The only thing that disappeared when the Dragon Queen awakened was the dragons.”
“…Oh.” Realization dawned upon Lilith. Unlike Cornelia’s dream, where the entire world had vanished, this time it was different. Only one race had disappeared. Everything else remained untouched.
“That’s because the Dragon Queen’s dream isn’t like Cornelia’s. It’s built upon reality.”
Whether from reverence or awe, Li Desheng’s voice was tinged with either reverence or awe as he continued, “To bind a dream to reality and fabricate specific beings within it… It’s theoretically impossible, yet… the Dragon Queen managed it. It’s no wonder she was once the strongest being in history.”
“What do you mean?” Lilith asked.
“You still don’t get it? Alright, let’s start with what defines a dream.”
“When we talk about dreams, the first things that come to mind are their instability, unpredictability, uncontrollability, and most importantly—the fact that the dreamer rarely realizes they’re dreaming.”
“No matter how powerful the dreamer is, once they become aware of the fact that they’re dreaming, the illusion collapses. That’s a universal law. Not even Dragon Queen should be able to change that law.”
“Normally, that means the dreamer themselves exists in their dream with partial memory loss. For instance, in this case, the Dragon Queen should have forgotten that the dragons were exterminated by the Dragon Eaters. After all, that event contradicts the very fabric of her dream. But clearly, she didn’t forget. And the proof… is you. Or more accurately, the Dragon Eater sealed inside you.”
“She was the one who placed it into you herself, so there was no way she’d forget the Dragon Eaters. And since she remembered, then by all rights, the dream should have collapsed long ago, triggered by that overwhelming contradiction.”
“That is what we’ve never been able to understand. How could the Dragon Queen not only control her dream, but also retain her full memories inside it? And then… just recently, after confirming she had awakened, we finally found the answer.”
Li Desheng raised two fingers, brought them together, then slowly pulled them apart.
“To fabricate the existence of dragons, she split herself in two—into a dream-self and a real-self. The dream-self maintained the dream. She was stripped of painful memories and appeared before you all as the demigod, the Master of Dragons, and your good mother.”
“The real-self, meanwhile, retained her full memories. She observed everything from the outside, adjusting and guiding the dream as needed. That’s how this dream remained so precise, and also why the number of dragons and their names matched perfectly with the eggs.”
“This was also why this dream wasn’t truly independent. It required the support of reality to exist, so it couldn’t truly become a reality itself. So when the Dragon Queen awakened, the illusion vanished, like a bubble bursting.”
“This is the truth, Your Highness. Everything was just a dream. All of it. It was a dream spun by the Dragon Queen… one that lasted for millions of years.”
Lilith fell into silence.
Li Desheng’s words cut through the air like a dark bird of prey, gliding through the vast, desolate space.
Lilith’s eyes chased after the fading shadows of that revelation, only to realize, in the end, that she had long since become a shadow herself.
Yes, this was the truth.
Nine million years ago, a queen who had lost everything returned to her ancestral land. Whether out of longing, grief, or some unspoken purpose, she built a dream there, a carefully woven illusion.
In that dream, the dragons hadn’t died. They had hatched and grown into naughty children with distinct personalities. They had misbehaved and often caused trouble, but above all… they were happy.
There was no war. No sorrow. They lived blissfully in this world without any worry in life. Maybe that was what the queen had wished for them all along, after everything she had lost.
Then, the queen had a daughter. The queen was radiant, regal, and magnificent, just like the sun itself. The daughter was adorable, beautiful, and obedient, just like a jewel.
The queen loved her daughter, and the daughter adored her mother. When sunlight shone upon the jewel, the jewel shimmered. But that was the biggest lie of this dream.
A quiet, broken sob escaped Lilith’s lips. For the first time, she cried like a helpless child. Could there be a truth more agonizing than this?
The ones she loved and had been searching for were just figments of a dream. The mother she trusted was only a projection of someone who was trying to sustain this dream. And she herself was nothing more than a lie wrapped in a bigger lie.
Now, the dream was over.
And what was left behind… was a truth and reality as terrifying as hell itself.
Li Desheng sighed and pulled out another cigarette. But after just two puffs, he flicked it away in frustration.
“Your Highness, you…—”
“Don’t call me that.” Lilith’s voice was hoarse as she continued slowly, “I’m not a princess… I’m not even a dragon… I think you know that better than I do.”
Li Desheng was quiet for a long time. At last, he took a deep breath and continued, “Then… Miss Lilith, after everything we’ve talked about… I think it’s time I told you the purpose of my visit.”
“Your purpose?” Lilith’s reddened eyes narrowed sharply as she glared at Li Desheng like a little wounded beast. “So you did come here with an agenda! Even you’re trying to manipulate me too?!” she snapped.
“No, no, please don’t misunderstand!” Li Desheng waved both hands quickly, trying to calm her down. He smiled wryly and said, “I admit I came here with a goal, but I believe it’s something good for you.”
“Good?” Lilith looked at him with hollow eyes. “Do I look like someone who has anything good waiting for her?”
“Of course. As long as you’re willing… even Lady Luck will be on your side forever,” Li Desheng said. He stepped forward, gave a slight bow, and extended his hand toward her.
Wearing the best benevolent yet awkward smile on his face, he asked gently, “So… what do you say, Miss Lilith? Will you join our side?”
