Even If I'm Reborn as a Cute Dragon Girl, I Will Still Make a Harem-Chapter 62Book 6: : Sudden Illness
That’s right. Compared to the colossal war that swept through the Great World nine million years ago, this is nothing more than children playing house.
A few thousand demigods were nothing to Thoughtless Heaven. But for someone like Lilith, who had never witnessed so many gathered in one place, it was enough to make her tremble.
Still, she forced herself to remain calm.
“Do you really think numbers will work on me?” Black flames swirled in her hands as she snapped, “I can at least take half of you with me!”
She tried to look fierce, hoping that the flames, infamous in the Great World, would be enough to intimidate them.
It was like facing a gang of thugs: as long as she scared them badly enough, they would crumble without a fight.
But the crowd showed no reaction. There was no fear on their faces. They merely stared back at her like statues.
“Only half of them?” Li Desheng let out a light chuckle. “That’s better than we expected, isn’t it?”
“What do you mean?” Lilith’s expression tensed.
“What do I mean? What could I possibly mean?” With a casual wave of his hand, Li Desheng gestured toward the surrounding demigods.
“Miss Lilith, every person here came with the resolve to die. After their deaths, their families will receive generous compensation from the Thoughtless Heaven. Their descendants will be specially nurtured. Their names will be inscribed in the Monument of Heroes. Their families’ status will rise, elevating them to the next level in the social hierarchy.”
“These are all promises made by the Deity Lord. In other words, no one here fears death. And certainly not the Dragon Eater!”
With that, Li Desheng ground out his cigarette underfoot and added coolly, “And of course… that includes me.”
“So, Miss Lilith, if you’re still relying on threats, I suggest you forget about them. They won’t work on us.”
Lilith let out a bitter snort. “Tsk, what did I do to deserve this?”
“It’s because of the Dragon Eater…” Li Desheng stared at Lilith in silence, then continued, “You should know by now that to destroy the Dragon Eater, the Great World will stop at nothing. We are merely the vanguard. If we fall, others will take our place.”
“They will throw their lives away without hesitation, launching wave after wave of attacks against you, and against the Dragon Eater inside you—just as our ancestors did nine million years ago.”
“And once the other deity lords that are capable of suppressing or even defeating the Dragon Queen step in, the restrictions on demigods will disappear entirely. At that point, you will face the full wrath of the Great World itself!”
“So…” He straightened his hunched back for the first time, and roared, “Miss Lilith, are you still going to remain stubborn?”
In the silence that followed, Lilith quietly pulled the still-stunned Ciel behind her. Black flames rose, forming a protective ring around them both.
“Guess I have no choice.”
This was no longer just some street brawl—this was a desperate fight to the death against someone willing to sacrifice everything.
There was only one path forward now.
“Let’s fight.”
Li Desheng seemed to recognize the resolve in Lilith’s eyes. He let out a long breath and said, “You’re right. Talk is pointless. Let’s fight.”
The fire that had long faded from his injured body blazed to life once more.
Since the day he was wounded ten years ago and forced to retire from the battlefield, he had never felt this alive.
For a moment, it was as if he had returned to a dream—one of blood, glory, and chaos.
The mountain-shaking roars!
The sky-darkening shadows!
The banners whipping in the wind!
The steel glint of cold swords and spears!
The voices of trusted comrades!
Armor shattering beneath divine power!
*Blaaagh…!*
And burning blood!
Yes, blood!
Li Desheng slowly raised his hand, and all eyes turned toward him. When the hand dropped, it was as if the trumpet of war had sounded the charge.
His expression grew more fervent. In his mind, he could already see blood flying through the air and smell its metallic scent.
*Blaaagh…!*
“Lilith, what’s wrong…?”
*See? The enemy’s blood has already splattered onto my face. My friends, our victory is… Wait. The battle hasn’t even started yet?*
The fire in Li Desheng’s chest suddenly died out, as if someone had just poured a bucket of ice water over him.
His gaze dropped stiffly.
There, kneeling on the ground, was the girl who had a monster in her. She was puking deep crimson blood.
*What…? What’s happening? What should I do?*
Faced with the unexpected turn of events, Li Desheng found himself asking the three great questions of his life. He turned to those beside him in confusion, only to find they were just as lost.
“Did you do something?”
“No, I only poisoned her a little, but it can’t even kill a mouse.”
“Then what the hell is this?”
“How would I know?”
“…Is she on her period?”
“…Does it come out from the mouth?”
After a long silence, someone suddenly shouted, “Acting! She must be acting! She must be faking it to scam us!”
Everyone instinctively took a step back at the same time.
“Are you guys stupid?” Li Desheng, the only one who remained where he stood, barked angrily, “She’s not some old lady faking an accident to scam us! Besides, aren’t you all supposed to be fearless? Why are you afraid of a scam now?”
The others scratched their faces awkwardly.
“It’s a reflex, sorry…”
Li Desheng sighed, exasperated.
Ignoring his comrades’ absurd reaction in a life-or-death situation, he turned his attention back to the girl now kneeling and coughing up blood.
*Strange. She’s not wounded or sick. We haven’t even started fighting yet. Why do her symptoms look like…*
◆◇◆◇◆
“Lilith… Lilith, are you okay?” Ciel kneeled beside her in a panic, trying to help her. As if suddenly recalling something, her own face had gone pale. “Don’t scare me…”
“I-I’m… fine.” Lilith waved weakly. “It’s just blood.”
“But—”
“What matters now… is the enemy in front of us, right? We—”
Lilith tried to stand, but the moment she pushed herself up, another mouthful of blood burst from her lips. This time, it was not dragon blood, nor was it tinged gold. It was just dark red human blood, soaking into the ground.
She wiped her mouth and stared at the blood in her palm in confusion.
“Strange… Why am I…”
Why was she suddenly vomiting blood like this? Did that b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲ Li slip something else into the cigarette smoke earlier?
“Ciel… help me detoxify… I’ve been poisoned…” Lilith clutched at Ciel’s sleeve, coughing up another big mouthful of blood.
She didn’t even bleed this much when her heart got ripped out back then.
“Ciel… hurry…!”
*That damn corporate slave! He always has dirty tricks up his sleeve. He’ll be the first I’ll kill later!*
“Ciel?” No matter how urgently Lilith called, Ciel remained still. Lilith turned her head in confusion. “What’s wrong with you?”
Ciel’s face was deathly pale, and her eyes were filled with raw sorrow. She stared at Lilith and said, “Lilith… that’s not poison. You’re not poisoned.”
“…Not poison? If it’s not poison, then why am I coughing up blood? What the hell did he use?”
“Lilith, do you remember what I told you…?”
“Told me? About… what…? Lilith’s voice trailed off. Time seemed to stop, and she froze in realization.
