Chapter 850 - Finale: He Lianchen x Gu Yuyao (2)
Still, what Feng Tianyi said earlier made sense to him. Perhaps he should give his elder brother a chance to explain himself after their long separation. f𝘳𝚎𝐞we𝐛𝑛𝐨𝘃e𝘭.co𝘮
A week later, He Lianchen found himself standing right outside the huge front door of the He family mansion. It had been over a decade since the last time he'd been here, and he couldn't believe that the day he would be able to step to this place again would come.
When he told Gu Yuyao that his elder brother reached out to meet him, his wife insisted that it was time for him to face the problem he'd been avoiding for such a long time.
"I know that you are upset with your brother, Lianchen. But you have to understand that he has no one to rely on for the past years to keep you safe," Gu Yuyao said as she played with his hair while he lay on their bed.
"Why now?" he scoffed. "I could have helped him defeat our Uncle if only he believed that I was capable."
"That you are, but you know how dangerous it would be for you if you stayed with him." Gu Yuyao nodded. It also surprised her when Feng Tianyi revealed that He Lianxuan made a deal with him in hope that the devil would be able to keep his younger brother away from the He family. f𝘳𝚎𝑒𝚠𝑒𝚋𝘯o𝘃eƖ.co𝓂
When the old butler who had been working at the He family for several years saw him, the old man immediately let him in.
"Second Master, welcome back!" He rushed to He Lianchen's side while the latter looked around the place.
"Is my brother at home?" he asked the butler, noticing that there weren't many changes that had been done since he left this place. If it was because He Lianxuan didn't want to forget the memories they had in this place, the younger He brother wasn't sure.
"He's upstairs in the study," the old man replied. If there was something he knew about the He brothers, that would be their insane need to perfect what they were doing no matter how hard it would be.
It was no wonder that after Chairman He, their uncle died two weeks ago, He Lianxuan had been working nonstop to secure his position and influence within the company. He might own the largest share of the He Corporation, but he was aware that the influence to sway the other shareholders wasn't in his hands. He would need his younger brother's expertise to keep their family business afloat.
He Lianchen hadn't seen his brother for ages. If it wasn't for the media covering news about He Corporation, he had no doubt that he would have forgotten what He Lianxuan looked like.
The moment he knocked on the door and entered the study, he found his brother's head lowered over the doc.u.ments he'd been studying. He Lianxuan didn't look good at all. From the state of his haggard face and darkening under his eyes, He Lianchen was sure that his brother had been neglecting his health for a long time.
He Lianxuan lifted his head once he heard the door open. His lips curved into a slight smile, seeing his younger brother for the first time in forever.
"I wasn't expecting that you would come here on your own accord," he said in a hoarse voice. Knowing his younger brother's personality, He Lianxuan wasn't hopeful that He Lianchen would listen to him this time.
"You need my help. Do you really think I don't care about you at all? How could I stay still knowing that you are on your own now?"
If Feng Tianyi hadn't told him the truth about the real situation and the reason why he was chased away by his brother, He Lianchen was sure he wouldn't be able to forgive himself for being ignorant all this time.
Between the two of them, it was clear that the younger He brother had more potential and was smarter than He Lianxuan. Everyone expected that he would become the heir apparent, regardless that he should be second in line after his older brother.
It all changed when their father died suddenly, leaving the company's authority in their second uncle who'd been vying for the family's wealth for a long time. At the time, He Lianxuan was already twenty-three years old while He Lianchen was nineteen. The older He brother had already joined the company while He Lianchen was just about to take his bachelor's degree.
According to Feng Tianyi, He Lianxuan only sent him away to study so he could keep him away from his second uncle. He Lianchen's life was in danger because he had the right to oppose their second uncle in the future. Hence, for him to live a peaceful life, He Lianxuan allowed himself to become a puppet of their second uncle and forced his brother to leave the family.
"It's my fault. I should have trusted you back then, but Uncle has threatened me that he would harm you and Gu Yuyao if I were to convince you to come back." He Lianxuan sighed.
"It had taken you years to realize that you can rely on me?" He Lianchen raised a brow. "Just look what happened to you, brother. You are a mess."
They could have brought down their evil uncle if only He Lianxuan believed in him.
On the other hand, at that time, when Lianxuan found He Lianchen, he was seeing the Gu heiress much to his shock. As for why Gu Yuyao kept her real identity towards He Lianchen, He Lianxuan wasn't sure. However, he was certain that the two were deeply in love with each other.
He had lost track of He Lianchen for three years after he sent him away. It was only after he stumbled upon Feng Tianyi did he find out that the devil had taken his younger brother under his wing and was threatened not to drag He Lianchen back to their family.
"Well, at least you are home now. Isn't that what matters?" the older brother said, offering a hand towards him.
He Lianchen eyed it for a moment and sighed. To think that his brother persisted this long, their second uncle must be rolling in his grave to know that the person who beat him at his game wasn't He Lianchen but the tenacious He Lianxuan instead.
"Right. Let's protect our father's legacy together from now on. You cannot chase me away this time, brother," he warned He Lianxuan before accepting his hand for a handshake.
