Evolving Infinitely From An E-Class Hero-Chapter 54: Calamity Breeds Evolution
"Hmmm..."
I scrolled through the system of the Forever Core, as information rolled into my photographic memory.
"Calamity Creatures ehh..."
I bit my finger gently.
"I had no idea Tempest Wolf is still missing till date, he disappeared right before the Gravehowl incident... Is he dead? Did Gravehowl get to him first before planning his scheme against the city?"
"Tch! How is it that I know alot and still know nothing... Answers breed more questions...".
The wind blew my blonde hair across my eyes as I stared into the streets of Sector D, the renovations after the Gravehowl incident were still very much on the way.
People were still required to wear face masks as the bio agent Gravehowl used was still present in the air but with trace amounts.
I wandered what would have happened if I didn’t come through for Sector D that day.
Damn. I don’t even want to think about that.
I do have to focus on the issue at hand now, my reassessment day is fast approaching and I still feel like I need to push myself harder.
I wanna be the first to pop up the second a villain or a threat rears its ugly head.
That’s why I was able to access the Internet and all its bronchiolitis. Any book, website and server you can think of, I had complete and uninterrupted access to it.
And what better way to keep tabs on superhero affairs than to tap into the ISA database.
The idea popped into my head a few days ago during the Ghost Town mission, The Apostle — seemed to be very close the President, so if I could tap on from his end, I could acces any and everything I wanted concerning villain uprising.
Now, heroes going missing is definitely something to look into.
And also this Calamity Creatures — from the footage gotten from the seaman cruiser, they were vicious and brutal but judging by what I saw... They were a B-Class level or A-Class at best.
However, the main aim here is to find out where they’re coming from and plug it so that more don’t show up and kill innocent people like that.
Also giving me an opportunity to evolve.
I opened my shirt and there it was, the Forever Core— humming gently with life, it was the only thing that I was sure would understand my point of view.
Well, I had already called Boomerang Man— Jake, to come help me out. Be my wing man as I began my hunt for these Calamity Creatures and also keeping my eyes open for any leads that could potentially make way to finding what happened to Tempest Wolf.
Tti-ring.
[Incoming Call...]
[Boomerang Man...]
"Huh... Hello? Jake?" I answered.
[Oi idiot! What are you doing?!]
He yelled back, his voice laced with anger and frustration.
"Ahem... I’m going through the ISAs database, apparently Tempest Wolf the A-Class Hero is still missing till now... Don’t you find that strange?" I said.
[Shut up you fool! You’re in luck! Something is happening in Sector C. There’s a sea port there that has a creature sighting...]
[ It’s on the news as we speak! You have to get there fast if you want to be the first to take it down!]
"What?"
I quickly erased the ISA database from my peripheral view and pulled up the image of the creature that had shown up in Sector C.
It was a news coverage.
But, something looked awfully familiar about this creature.
I narrowed my lips and stroke my chin in thought as I looked at the creature.
Just then, it hit my like a tidal wave. Realization —
The creature looked almost the same as the one that showed up two days ago off the Coast of Sector C on the seaman’s cruise.
But this one looked a little bit different from the last one. This one had a hulking body and a huge head that resembled that of a fish.
[Hello! Are you still there? You have to get there now!]
"I understand..."
"I’m on my way..."
I wiped everything from my view and stepped off the building top immediately, allowing myself to plummet for a few seconds before—
"Initiate..."
"Come out..."
Whoooooshhhh!
***
Sector C
Seaport.
"You godforsaken monster!!"
The man slammed his foot against the gas pedal, sending the semi-truck hurtling forward at maximum speed.
The truck collided with the creature—
CRASH!
The impact nearly split the vehicle in half. Shattered glass scattered across the pavement as the truck came to a violent stop. But the creature stood unfazed, like nothing had happened.
It was monstrous—resembling an enormous piranha with bulging eyes, a scaly body, and a massive jaw lined with razor-sharp teeth. Fin-like structures protruded from its arms and ankles.
The man inside the truck gasped in shock. The creature slowly turned its head toward him.
SHRIEEEEEEEEK!
It let out an ear-piercing screech before swinging its massive arm—
POW!
The truck was flattened like tin foil, its metal frame crumpling with an ear-splitting crunch. Blood pooled from the wreckage, a dismembered arm lying limply among the debris.
"Holy shit... It just totaled the truck!"
A port worker, dressed in sea gear, hid behind a shipping container, his heart pounding in terror.
His coworker crouched beside him, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Pull yourself together, you little wimp!" the first man scolded.
"W-We’re screwed..."
"Shut up and stay quiet. If it doesn’t notice us, we might make it out alive."
He peeked around the corner—only to find the creature gone.
His breath hitched.
"Where is it? Did you see it?"
"It’s gone..."
ARGHHHH!
A thunderous roar erupted above them.
Their heads snapped upward— The beast was perched atop the container, poised to strike.
"God dammit! Show me what you’re made of you ugly, digus..." The first worker yelled as he curved his palms into a fist in an attempt to defend himself.
The beast wasn’t having it. It swung its massive arm—
CRACK!
The blow sent him hurtling backward, slamming against a shipping container with a sickening crunch.
For a moment, silence.
Then, his body slumped to the ground—his torso split open, organs spilling onto the pavement.
He was dead before he even hit the floor.
The other worker seeing the immediate demise of his colleague was rooted to the ground out of fear and just like that the creature sandwiched his face against the shipping container crushing his skull into a pulp.
