Chapter 81: Assessment Day

The morning came swiftly than I had anticipated, I had already made my decision to reassess during the next assessment day so that the ISA would get off my back and stop watching over me like some hound wolf.

I am not a threat, I am hero.

I was sure this was going to go as planned because unlike before, the Forever Core’s system didn’t object my decision. It simply remained quiet as if waiting to see the outcome of the reassessment test.

It was time to stop pretending to be an E-class.

It’s time to get that reassessment test.

It was time to get the class that matched my current set of abilities.

My expression became serious as I jumped off the bed and began freshing up for the day.

With my current level, surely I would be ranked S-Class but I wasn’t sure about the Rank... That would depend on my cognitive skills as a hero...

That is my original aim to begin with, S-Class.

In order to avoid situations where I was being under the thumb of someone stronger, I continued to act as an E-class all this while, while taking on all the inconvenience that came along with it.

But they only made me stronger, who’d have thought someone like me could beat a legendary hero like Lady Phoenix.

I was on par with the Golden Guardian at this point, and if it goes exactly as I want it to go, I would definitely be ranked S-Class Rank 1 and Golden Guardian would be pushed to Rank 2.

Within the hour, I was already dressed and ready to go for the assessment day. I wasn’t sure when Jake would show up so I decided to just go without him, he had his own path to take and if I may say he was honestly doing well.

During our training session yesterday he was like a whole new person, he had honed his skills to perfection and he was even working with scientists in the ISA to create new and improved battle gear for him that suited his fighting style.

I wasn’t the only one leveling up, Boomerang Man was too.

The main building of the reassessment test wasn’t to far from my place, it was at Tower D here in Sector D. So, I could be able to go through the test pretty quickly.

"Oh hang on!..." I snapped back as I was just about to leave the apartment, but I hurriedly came back inside. I had forgotten all about my Mom.

Since she might get worried if her son left home earlier than her without saying anything. I took a piece of sticky notes from the fridge top and scribbled a simple note and plastered it to the body of the fridge.

"Today’s is assessment day, about to go reassess. Check out, you might see me on the news. Don’t panic everything is just fine."

With a satisfied smile on my lips, I turned and left the apartment.

***

It really had been a while since I came to Tower D for reassessment.

How long has it been? Eight months? Or maybe a year now...

I wasn’t sure, my expression was full of reminisce as I stood in front of the employee manning the reception desk.

The employee didn’t even bother to look at me while she spoke.

She didn’t know I was soon to be a hot shot!

"Please jot down your identification and contact details, and give them to me."

I still remembered most of the process so I had prepared them before coming here. I readily presented both my identification and my contact details.

"Huh?"

The employee’s head tilted left and right after taking one loo at my choice of identification.

"Isn’t this a hero license?"

"It is..."

Her expression remained confused.

"I wish to take a reassessment test..."

Then she scoffed and began tapping away on her keyboard.

"You E-Class heroes all want to reassess like the result is going to be any different... Unless you died and resurrected, I don’t see any way in hell your class is changing"

"Well, I did die and resurrect..."

"Ehh?"

"Technically..."

The employee continued to alternate her gaze between the Hero license and my face, before raising a trembling finger in the air.

"Please, wait here while I get the reassessment officer... They are different from Assessment officers."

The employee the quickly ran over to the middle ages man with a scowl on his face sitting somewhere behind her.

"Sir? Another Hero wishes to take a reassessment test."

"A reassessment test? What’s that person’s class?"

"It’s an E-Class Hero sir!"

The manager cranked his neck and hissed irritatedly and took a glance at my face as I stood by the reception desk. He then reverted back to his previous posture.

"These E-Class Heroes should get a job or something, ain’t no way their rank is gon change overnight. They’re not satisfied by their reality of their situation and swim inside daydreams, before coming back here hoping against hope— pathetic."

Was he even aware that I could hear him?

"So is that the E-Class hero?"

The manager pointed towards my general direction, to which the employee nodded.

"Tch! Reassessment my ass! Others are busy raking in the dough as heroes, getting famous and all that, but well he drew a short straw and ended up as a nobody. So, he’s just trying to escape from reality."

Damn.

"Dealing with guys like that will only tire you out. So, just tell him that he’ll be paying the fee for the test of 1000 Units and send him on his way to the Sphere room!"

"Roger that."

The employee no longer looked like she was suffering from abdominal pain and returned to her seat.

Meanwhile, the manager alternates his gaze between the employee and me, clicking his tongue, before shifting his attention back to the computer monitor in front of him.

***

The fingers of the manager stopped typing in the keyboard.

The name written in the Hero license, it felt all too familiar to him. Like he had heard that name before from somewhere.

"Where was it?" He thought to himself.

Once the young hero left for the room with the measurement Sphere in it, the manager sneaked in closer to the employee and asked her.

"That E-Class hero just now, what was his name again?"

"It’s Reno Renly. Do you know who he is?"

"No, it’s not that. But..."

He could not get over the feeling that he had heard of that name before, for sure. The manager did his absolute best to jog his memories and then it finally clicked.

His eyes widened.

"Ah! That man asked for a favor. Didn’t he?"

"He asked me to tell him incase an E-Class Hero named

Reno Renly showed up here..."

The manager sought his device from within his breast pocket.

*Ring Ring...

"Hello... Doctor Holtz?"
