Chapter 49: Arlo

"Have you tried finding the exit?" Neil asked, one of the questions that was bothering him.

"We did, maybe those bars are the way out of here, or maybe there is just no exit." Hiroshima shrugged his shoulders.

Just surviving here was so difficult, how could they even bother searching for an exit?

"I can help bring your domain here, or you can stay with someone else for now, you just need to follow some basic rules here."

Hiroshima said, patting Neil’s shoulder as they paused before another stone building.

"This building is the trading place. If you’ve got anything that you want to trade for food, then just submit it here.

But know, the connection to outside isn’t stable, so a lot of times the trade just disappears. Getting food isn’t really easy here-"

Just as Hiroshima was speaking, a group of three approached them. Upon seeing them, the expressions of Hiroshima and Zeke changed.

They appeared a bit hostile.

"Is that a new survivor? Hiroshima, I was coming to meet you. Not far away we have sensed the presence of a domain, that must belong to you."

The burly man with a bald head and tattoos looked at Neil, sizing him up.

"Yes?" Neil replied emotionlessly, while feeling that this settlement might not be as peaceful as he expected.

"That’s good. If you want to join, submit any supplies or subjects you have in return for the security in these walls." The bald guy spoke.

The two guys standing behind him were both burly and looked exactly the same, with every inch of their bodies tattooed.

"... " Neil frowned, his gaze drifting towards Hiroshima.

"Jose, since when were you in charge of the new survivors? Know your limits!" He glared at the three.

"Haha, Warden, it would be better if you don’t stop us from doing our duty. We are here on boss’s order.

Are you sure you want to do this? Remember what happened the last time?" Jose laughed.

He was clearly weaker than Hiroshima, but was still so arrogant.

"What’s going on?" Neil asked, curious about the situation here.

"Sigh, these men work for Arlo..." Hiroshima explained.

Arlo is the son of a high ranking and powerful officer from a human settlement, and his father is responsible for the trade with people here.

So, in a way, Arlo controlled all the supply here.

His father would only trade with him, giving him immense authority.

Because of the bad connection, the supply was already low and now it was further cut down by Arlo, so the situation wasn’t good here.

And there wasn’t much Hiroshima could do.

Although he was the leader, it was getting difficult to contain Arlo now.

Neil nodded in understanding. So there were two factions here. And this Arlo clearly was trouble.

"Jose, there is no need for that. It is already surprising that Lukas could survive with such low strength, how could he have any subjects or supplies?"

Hiroshima said with a frown.

Of course, Jose knew all that too. It was more for causing trouble and establishing Arlo’s status.

"Well then I won’t join this settlement." Neil said firmly.

There was no way he would let any of them enter his domain.

"Oh, a fighter we got? Either way, we need to search your domain for necessary measures."

His lips stretched, forming an ugly smile, as he looked at Neil oppressively.

"You can try." Neil said, glaring back at the bald man.

This guy was at the bronze class of 2nd Origin, defeating him would certainly be near impossible for Neil.

But he could certainly injure him before escaping.

"Heh, kid, are you that desperate to get your pretty face ruined?" Right after speaking, Jose kicked towards Neil’s head.

The leg contained power enough to make his head explode.

Neil’s eyes were instantly flooded with darkness as bloodlust exploded from his body, his fingers turning into claws.

He tilted his head as the foot barely grazed his cheek, leaving a light cut, but at the same time his fingers clutched Jose’s foot.

"Ughhh!" Jose staggered, as the claws sank into his skin, easily piercing into his flesh.

He tried to pull back, but that only made the cut deeper and longer.

"Fuck, let go!!" While trying to balance, he punched out. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Hiroshima finally intervened. After stopping the punch, he pushed Jose back.

Neil closed his eyes, his black veins bulging under his clothes. He barely stopped himself from transforming.

Then he wiped the black blood from his cheek. He really needed to do something about it, or others would get suspicious.

"Master, it is fine. There are people with all sorts of abilities and appearances.

Even if anyone saw this, they will just assume it to be related to your ability." Nemo said, making Neil feel relaxed.

Then his gaze shifted towards Jose, who was already on the ground, his leg bleeding heavily.

Neil finally tested the increase in his strength. It was quite satisfying, but far from enough.

He might still lose even with his phantom transformation, but this was already quite fast.

"Fuck, fuck, ughhh, damnit, how did he- ahhh my leg!!"

Jose screamed, as the twins looked shockingly at Neil, then wondered if they should attack or not.

"Take him away and leave. Arlo has no say over others’ territory. There are rules even he must follow, otherwise I will stop following the rules as well." Hiroshima threatened.

He was the strongest here. It wouldn’t be hard to wipe out Arlo and his group. Which is why Arlo hadn’t taken over.

If the food supply would stop after his death, what would be the point if he is already dead? So Arlo was still careful.

"This is not over!" Jose and the others walked away.

"Sigh, I am sorry about that. The supply is our biggest problem right now, and being able to control that, Arlo has gotten a high standing." The warden sighed.

"Looks like I can’t stay here." Neil still didn’t have enough strength to oppose them all, but then he looked at the warden and asked:

"By the way, what’s your exchange rate for food?"

Hiroshima wanted to help Neil, but he couldn’t watch over him at all times, and if he did settle here, Arlo’s gang would definitely target him.

"Here." After rummaging in his pocket, he handed over a paper where the exchange rate of 1st Origin creatures was written.

But the note at the top warned that the success rate of exchange is less than 50 percent, so even after giving several corpses, they might not receive anything.

Then Neil looked down.

The supplies were divided into various categories, but mainly the paper contained info on various food items.

Ten corpses of bronze class might get them one day’s worth of food.

Three corpses of silver class might get them one day’s worth of food.

One gold class corpse would get them one day’s worth of food.

And one diamond class corpse could get them three days’ worth of food.

Of course, food could also be exchanged for other loot, such as subjects, weapons, and skills.

"So expensive!" Neil was surprised. It seemed Arlo was really taking a big cut here.

"Yeah, just tell Zeke what you want to exchange and he will help you. I doubt they will allow you to trade after all." The warden said.

He was shocked at Neil’s burst of strength just now.

’This... This...’ Neil stared at the list as an exciting thought popped into his mind.

’I am about to get fucking rich!!’
