Exiled!? Ha! I have An Infinite Space-Chapter 77 -
Fu Fei and Fu Li had been listening quietly.
After hearing what Master Fu said about the young men, Fu Fei hesitated for a moment before asking softly,
"Then... what about the girls?"
Fu Li also looked at their parents nervously.
"What happens to the women there?"
Madame Fu shook her head slowly, her expression not very good.
Master Fu sighed.
"The women... do not have it easy either."
He paused for a moment before continuing.
"Sometimes they are sold for grain when families cannot find food."
Fu Fei’s face turned pale.
Master Fu continued quietly,
"Some are married off quickly to repay debts to money lenders. Others are exchanged for favors or protection."
The words made the air around the fire turn heavy.
Fu Fei and Fu Li immediately grabbed each other’s hands.
Both of them looked frightened.
Seeing their reaction, Fu Sheng spoke calmly.
"You don’t need to worry."
Everyone looked at him.
His voice was steady.
"As long as we are together as a family, nothing like that will happen to you."
His eyes were firm when he said it.
Fu Tong also nodded quickly.
"That’s right," he said. "Who would dare try anything when we are around?"
I also smiled lightly and added,
"Your brother is right. No one will sell you for grain while we are here."
Fu Fei and Fu Li finally relaxed a little after hearing that.
The fear on their faces slowly eased.
After a moment of silence, another thought crossed my mind.
I turned toward Master Fu.
"There is something else I want to ask," I said.
Master Fu looked at me.
"What is it?"
"Who is in charge of the barren lands?" I asked. "Is there some kind of leader... a village head or someone managing the place?"
Master Fu took a deep breath.
He thought for a moment before answering.
"The barren lands do have guards at the entrance," he said slowly.
"They watch who enters and who leaves."
"But inside... people mostly live freely."
He paused before continuing.
"However, freedom there does not mean much."
His voice became heavier.
"What use is freedom when famine and sickness are part of everyday life?"
The fire crackled softly.
"Many people there struggle just to survive," he continued.
"Some groups form gangs and bully the weak."
"Others try to set up rules and order... but no one really listens."
Fu Teng frowned slightly.
"So it’s basically chaos," he said quietly.
Master Fu nodded.
"Yes."
"The strong survive. The weak suffer."
No one spoke for a moment after hearing that.
The barren lands sounded even worse than we had imagined.
After Master Fu finished speaking, the conversation slowly came to an end.
The fire burned lower, and the night grew colder.
One by one, everyone began preparing their bedding for the night.
Fu Teng quietly spread his blanket a little farther from the fire. He did not say much. After arranging his bedding, he simply lay down, clearly ready to sleep.
Fu Tong, on the other hand, still looked energetic.
Just as I was about to settle down, Fu Fei and Fu Li quickly moved closer to me.
"Sister-in-law," Fu Li whispered, her eyes bright with excitement.
Fu Fei leaned closer as well.
"You won’t believe what happened while you and brother were away."
I blinked in curiosity.
"What happened?"
Fu Li lowered her voice even more.
"It was that Fu Fong again," she said.
My brows immediately lifted.
"What did he do this time?"
Fu Fei sighed lightly.
"He went looking for trouble with Bai Ming."
Fu Tong, who had been listening nearby, quickly joined in.
"She slapped his own sister first," he said, shaking his head. "Then he tried to hit Bai Ming too."
My eyes widened slightly.
"What?"
Fu Li nodded quickly.
"Yes! But just when he was about to hit her..."
"Han Fuji appeared," Fu Fei finished.
Fu Tong chuckled.
"That man grabbed Fu Fong’s hand before he could touch her."
Fu Li crossed her arms, clearly impressed.
"And he even warned Fu Fong not to touch Bai Ming again."
Fu Tong added with a grin,
"Fu Fong was so angry his face almost turned purple."
I listened quietly, slightly surprised by the story.
"So Han Fuji rescued her again?" I asked.
Fu Fei nodded.
"Yes."
Fu Tong smirked.
"At this rate, people will start thinking he really likes her."
Fu Li giggled.
"That’s exactly what we said earlier."
While the three of them continued whispering and gossiping, Fu Sheng, who had been nearby, simply shook his head slightly.
He looked mildly helpless listening to all the chatter.
Instead of joining in, he quietly dusted the ground where we would sleep.
Then he spread our bedding neatly beside the fire.
After that, he adjusted the blanket carefully, making sure it was clean and comfortable.
The soft glow of the firelight flickered across his calm face as he worked.
Meanwhile, Fu Tong was still whispering,
"I’m telling you, that Han Fuji guy definitely—"
"Enough," Fu Teng’s tired voice suddenly cut in from where he was already lying down.
"You people gossip too much."
Fu Tong laughed quietly but lowered his voice.
Fu Sheng finished arranging the bedding and glanced toward us.
"Are you coming to sleep," he asked calmly, "or will you continue talking all night?"
Fu Li and Fu Fei immediately giggled.
"Alright, alright," Fu Fei said.
The three of them slowly stood up and went to their own sleeping places.
Soon the campsite became quiet again.
Only the soft crackling of the fire and the distant sounds of the forest could be heard as everyone prepared to rest for the night.
"Aren’t you sleeping?" Fu Sheng asked me once again but I shaked ny head.
Standing up I said to him, "I’ll be right back.. I wanna see someone."
"Bai Ming? You want to warn her right?" He said as though he had read through my mind.
"Hmm.. I’ll be right back okay." Saying that I turned ready to leave but I suddenly stopped and turned back.
Before Fu Sheng could know what was coming, i pecked him on the cheek.
