Chapter 125: R*cist Professor?

Kaiser stopped in front of the classroom door. On the other side, a male voice was already resonating, calm, slightly condescending. The lesson had begun. He remained still for a second, half-listening to what was being said.

"... and it is precisely thanks to the discipline and intellectual superiority of humanity that the great wars against the demons were won..."

Kaiser rolled his eyes slightly.

Without wasting any more time, he grabbed the handle and pulled. The door creaked loudly, a sharp sound that abruptly cut off the professor’s voice. Every head turned toward the entrance.

Inside, the room was vast, arranged in tiered rows. Light stone benches sloped gently down toward a central platform.

About fifty students were already seated. First-years, but also several older students, recognizable by their badges.

Standing on the platform, Raymond Wilord fixed Kaiser with a visibly irritated look at having his lesson interrupted.

He stared at Kaiser for a moment; he wasn’t the only one. Several other students were also interested in the newcomer. After all, in such a boring class, any distraction was welcome.

Kaiser scanned the room. He recognized a few faces he had seen the day before in the corridors, but nothing more. Then he suddenly noticed a familiar figure who was also looking at him, only to quickly look away with a slight blush on her cheeks.

"...How may I help you?" Raymond spat, annoyed by the waiting time and Kaiser’s nonchalant attitude.

Hearing the voice, Kaiser looked at him for a moment before replying. That impeccable outfit he wore, the kind that screamed superiority... no use lying, it was irritating.

"I kindly ask you to accept my tardiness, Lord Wilford."

After taking a breath, Kaiser forced himself to play nice a little. No point in making an enemy right at the beginning of the academy. Despite his pig-headed personality, who knows, that bastard might actually be useful later.

"Hmm," Raymond slowly raised an eyebrow, his irritation replaced by a touch of interest. The posture, the way of speaking, those clothes... now that he saw them... he was sure, impossible to be mistaken. This student was definitely part of the elite, just like him. "...And you are?" the man finally asked, clearly curious to know whether his guess was right or wrong.

"...the son of Count Paragon, Kaiser D. Paragon," Kaiser answered without detour. Already knowing the character, it wasn’t hard to guess what he was thinking right now.

"Well, well. A noble recognizes a noble."

Raymond was the kind of bastard who, raised in the opulence and excess of a great family, had ended up believing that, as a pure-blooded noble, he existed in a sphere above the common rabble. In beauty, intelligence, strength and power, it was only natural for a noble to possess all of that.

And as for what he hated most after this class he considered poor... it was the demi-beasts. Those vile creatures driven by savagery. For him, to be useful they all had to be trained like dogs.

"That’s fine for this time, Lord Paragon. I am convinced by your noble elegance. Please take a seat..." he said this time with much more consideration.

In the real world people would have screamed discrimination, and indeed that’s exactly what it was, but here it was commonplace. You don’t want to be looked down on? Then shut your mouth and work until you become stronger than your oppressors. Here only the strongest get to speak.

’Crazy to see this bastard in the flesh,’ Kaiser thought as he walked toward Kara, whom he had spotted earlier. No matter how many times he saw them face to face, these characters he had only known through a novel, it was always impressive and surreal.

Raymond watched him sit next to the very girl who embodied that underclass of savages he despised, which made him frown. He had already initially wanted to throw Kara out when she entered the class, but seeing Kaiser, a noble, voluntarily sit beside her irritated him, yet he had no say in the matter.

"...Right, where was I..." Clearing his throat, he continued his lecture, trying not to pay too much attention to Kara.

"Make a little room for me," Kaiser said in a low voice as he stood close to the girl. She was sitting in the far right corner of the room, a bit apart from everyone else.

When she saw Kaiser, her heart warmed slightly. After all, stuck in what was supposed to be a class but had turned out to be an oral torture session for her, wasn’t exactly great.

But thinking back to what had happened with Kaiser last time, her heart rate quickened a little. "An accident," she told herself internally.

She shifted, making space for Kaiser, who had remained standing until then.

"I thought you were never going to move," he said with a sigh, as if expressing relief.

"Why come here when there’s so much space elsewhere?" Kara asked, throwing him a glance. "And if I hadn’t moved...?"

A small smirk appeared on Kaiser’s face as he pretended to look at the horizon through the window after glancing at the girl. "Why do you think I would go anywhere else but next to you?"

That answer caught her off guard. What was he implying? She was already trying to forget what had happened and now this guy shows up and starts saying nonsense.

Kaiser was amused by Kara’s reaction. A small laugh escaped his throat as he reached out and gently stroked the top of her head.

"What are you..." she said, her cheeks turning a rosy shade. "Stop holding my head..."

She snatched Kaiser’s hand away. A few students turned, noticing the little exchange between the two. Raymond, for his part, was too absorbed in his speech to notice.

"The fearsome warrior pouting?" Kaiser whispered, leaning a little closer to Kara, his warm breath brushing her neck. "I didn’t know you could be so sexy... yesterday you were crying for more~"

Kara turned and shot him a dark look. "Shouldn’t you be paying attention to the lesson instead of spouting such bullshit?"

"Lesson?" Kaiser asked, feigning surprise. "What lesson? All I hear is a bunch of bullshit. Don’t you?"

"... as I was saying, humanity has always shown leadership in the face of chaos. Unlike certain primitive races, incapable of discipline or long-term strategy."

As if he had been waiting to be talked about, Raymond continued, his words merciless. Only an idiot could claim those remarks weren’t aimed at anyone in particular.

Kara clenched her fists. She had only one desire: to tear apart this asshole spouting crap right in front of her. But she knew very well she was far from having the power to back up her thoughts. She had to train much harder.

Kaiser immediately noticed Kara’s clenched fists. His gaze slid toward her. Her jaw was tight. Her eyes were fixed on the board in front of her, but her body betrayed her anger. It wasn’t hard to understand why.

Raymond went on, without the slightest embarrassment.

"The demi-beasts, for example, have always acted on instinct. Savages, incapable of building a proper civilization without human help."

A few stifled laughs could be heard in the room, along with a few heads turning toward Kara.

She took a deep breath, trying to hold herself back.

Kaiser tilted his head slightly toward her.

"Breathe," he murmured. "He’s not worth getting yourself in trouble."

She turned her head slightly toward him.

"He talks about us like we’re animals," she breathed, her voice trembling with anger.

"Yes, but you don’t have the power to shut him up yet," Kaiser replied calmly. "Just be patient, get strong, and then... you can simply kill him."

Raymond continued, clearly delighted with his own speech.

"This is why command positions must remain in the hands of humans, and more precisely, noble lineages. History has proven it to us time and time again."

Kaiser let out a small sigh.

Kara, for her part, had calmed down a little. Kaiser’s words were harsh, but they described this implacable reality. It was actually one of the reasons she liked him despite his teasing side.

"You’re right," she admitted, "... but speaking of training, I’d really like to see how much I’ve improved..." She turned her head, searching for his gaze.

"So you want a duel?" Kaiser asked without surprise. "But you know everything has a price here, right?"

Kara looked at him for a moment, a little hesitant but eventually gave in. "So what’s the price? I really don’t have much money and don’t even think about making me do disgusting things..."

"Who do you take me for?" Kaiser chuckled. "The price is just a kiss..."

"Don’t even think about it!" she exclaimed, not even letting him finish.

"On the cheek..." Kaiser finished.

A long silence followed, but in the end Kara let out a long sigh... this bastard had a real talent for shamelessly exploiting her, but she had no choice. "Fine, on the cheek, one single kiss..."

A satisfied smile spread across Kaiser’s face as he slowly leaned back in his chair.
