Chapter 20: Chapter 20- Low key? NAH!
'Was it too much?' I looked towards the woman with short hair, a mix of black and white, with a mask covering her face.
I felt as though my words might have sounded cringe, but given that it was the only excuse I could think of to make her not inquire about this further, I used it.
Initially, I had to create a defensive wall by stating that she was sent by the princess—so she would remove any intentions of harming me.
I called her name, affirming that I was aware of her identity and wanting to get to know her.
Now, seeing her directly inquiring about it, it was clear that she was confused, prompting me to give an answer.
If I correctly remember, there was a backstory involving where she wanted to get back at the Arcutus family, who had a major role in the betrayal and elimination of Olea's parents.
This gave her all the reasons to seek revenge on the Arcutus family first, once she became capable enough.
Kyle, who had returned to the Azure Flame Kingdom to claim his rightful seat, directly collided with Olea with his wives, leading to a massacre in which Olea killed all of his 14 wives, forcing him to flee and somehow ascend to the upper realm through a destined encounter.
In her pursuit to kill him, Olea—who had already soaked her hands in blood—followed behind to kill him afterwards the whole deadly battle.
On her way, she and several other major characters directly collided with an immortal who had descended back from the upper realm.
Kyle ascended through the same open portal from which the immortal came—entering it like some rat, injured but lucky to find that crack before it finally closed.
However, the immortal's arrival led to a devastating battle in which Olea died.
Having battled strong individuals left her injured, and while in that already broken state, she collided with that immortal with her exhausted body, leading to her defeat and then afterwards, her death became nourishment for his strength.
Unlike Leon, whose story ended with his death, Olea, on the other hand, was a major character who found her soul, already strengthened by her unique physique, keeping its consciousness intact and floating through a crack leading to the upper realm.
There, she was reborn in a household through the reincarnation cycle.
Though those events belonged to another time, they signified just how much she hated the Arcutus family to go as far as to kill their last bloodline.
After destroying that family, when she uncovered a hidden secret, all her anger was redirected toward Kyle—a secret that will most likely decide my fate as well.
"Let's leave."
Pulling me out of my thoughts were her words as she called out before turning to leave the place.
For a moment, I wanted to kill her due to that backstory, as the chances of her killing me were too high, but if I started to eliminate everyone who posed a threat to the original story of Kyle's life, I would probably end up eradicating all potential wives.
Indeed, I knew she was dangerous, but perhaps I had become numb to death and no longer feared it, as I had already become aware of what happens after death.
There was a philosophy in my old world that stated people fear death because they fear the unknown.
They don't know what happens after death, which is why they fear it.
In my case, it seemed that after becoming aware of what happened afterward, I had completely grown numb to it. The fear of pain was still present, but I wasn't terrified.
'It's lower than....' Turning my attention back to the screen that had popped up a few moments ago in front of me, I couldn't help but feel that the rising standards were an advantage for me.
[ Olea Necrobane, Qualifications = 93/100 ]
Yet, seeing that she qualified with a score of only 93 instead of 100, I slowly placed the little cockroach I had above my head.

As I placed Valeriana on my head, I heard her voice, which, although her words seemed anxious, had a bland tone as if she didn't care. Due to her sitting on my head and speaking so closely, I could feel that she was just concerned about me getting injured, leading to her pain too.
'Yes, and you?' I still responded, thinking at least she asked about my health.
:: You must feel pretty fortunate having me on your head, but what about my side of things? You actually touched me with those nasty hands of yours! ::
'....' Hearing that she was the same as before, I turned my attention back towards the direction of the carriage in which Olea had entered, looking for a fleeting moment in that direction.
I turned towards the buses from where the attack had come, observing the soldiers pulling away the body of a man whose eyes were wide and a knife was embedded in his forehead as I made my way towards him.
[ We-Shen, Shadow Serpent Bloodline, Silent Fang Physique, 15 years of cultivation, Specter Qi, Venomfang Daggers artifact, 3rd Layer Expert ]
'Assassin guild?', looking towards the screen hovering in mid-air reading through it as I saw a Specter Qi which was used for those mostly preferring stealth.
I instantly recognized the individual from the assassin guild considering the ghost sect and the assassin guild are the only two well-known organizations using this particular Qi which enhances their stealth ability.
'....!?' As I neared him, suddenly I noticed a small flower tattoo, a very small one near his neck, causing me to halt as my eyes naturally turned towards the carriage before closing my eyes as I realized that this politics had even started before I could leave my mansion.
This particular tattoo belonged to the faction supporting Princess Aleriana Vandreat—one who, on the other hand, sent Olea for my protection and, on the other hand, sent assassins to kill me.
And most probably, Olea herself would have noticed this, where the princess wanted to create a situation in which I started to trust Olea even more—elevating Olea and the princess's position in my eyes as my saviors.
'This woman...', Naturally, reading it through stories and then experiencing it myself, the experience was too vivid for me to really feel how shrewd and dangerous that woman was to even go as far as to send real assassins behind me while having confidence in Olea's skills, at the same time sacrificing only weak pawns under her as if by sacrificing some weak pawns trying to gain my trust, which naturally seems heavier in her eyes than a few sacrifices.
'Olea wants to kill me and Aleriana wants to kill me, anything you want Valerian—huh?', suddenly while moving towards the carriage, I casually inquired, ruffling my hair as I felt how I was getting entangled soon enough in these plots, but halting, I noticed that woman's name was similar to lizard over my head.
:: What? ::
'...Nothing', I naturally wanted to inquire this coincidence but, again feeling it being just another baseless guess, I ignored it as two people having similarly sounding names were normal and not that they had the same name too.
But at least I could guess that the woman with the name Aleriana must be avoided at all costs in this story.
"Haah...", I just exhaled, relaxing my mind before finally opening the door of the carriage as I entered it, preparing myself to deal with these situations moving forward.
I aim to stay alive and somehow find a way to live a peaceful life after solving all this mess, until all these major characters ascend to a higher realm, leaving me this whole kingdom to live a peaceful life.
:: Do you lose a screw for sighing like an idiot, human? ::
'....shut up, bitch'
