Extra's Path To Demon King-Chapter 101: Various Benefits
Chapter 101: Various Benefits
Lumina gave him a speculative look on that point with a raised eyebrow, She asked with a smile, "Oh, what makes you so confident that you’re better than the one and only Damien Nomrad?"
"Is it because you’re his grandson, or some family inheritance?"
Axel chuckled and said with pure confidence, "No, because I am the best."
"Of course, it will take a long, long time until I reach his level, I presume. I don’t even know where or how he is now," added Axel helplessly.
Lumina added with some hesitation, "Yes, publicly, you’re grandfather is known to be... um, dead. But I do know that is not the case in truth. He disappeared out of nowhere for more than 7-8 years, I think."
Axel nodded with a long sigh and didn’t speak about it anymore. Lumina in the midway, bid him farewell, and went on her way. He would be spending some time in the library now. He showed his card to the librarian lady in charge. He asked her about the books he needed, and she pointed him in a certain direction.
Axel was internally glad that the librarian wasn’t a friendly-looking old man; it would remind him of librarian Leroy, and that was a big scar on his mind, how Leroy stabbed right through his heart.
He shook his head and got rid of all those thoughts. Took some books from the section he was directed to and then, sat on a single-person reading desk, began reading the books one after another. First, he read the book on Archon tier 1 materials and their various uses and how to handle them. It was a book with all-around introductory knowledge in general.
Axel surprisingly found his memory to be very powerful, maybe more than twice as before. Probably because of the 200 stats in the mind attribute. So, using that advantage, he memorized all the necessary things and revised them, closing his eyes. Making sure that he truly remembered the things as he read.
After getting to know most of the materials on Archon tier 1 and their individual uses on a practical level, and how real-world tools are made of that grade using various mixtures of various materials.
Slowly, he moved onto more and more advanced books, each teaching him how to practically handle the materials, liquifying them and how to handle that, and then molding them into the proper shape, using techniques and various tools. Without him even realizing Axel had spent the entire day just devouring knowledge without any rest. It was only when the time came, when the library would soon close down, that the librarian lady came to wake him from his focus.
It was only then did he realize that the whole day had just passed,
"I truly am sorry, I didn’t realize how much time had passed, please forgive me," said Axel.
He expected the lady to give him a earful, but she only smiled kindly towards him, which didn’t make sense but a sudden thought popped into his head, damn it. Was the librarian lady about to mark his magic card with a mountain of negative credit? Considering she already warned him that everyone only had 3 hours of free library visit daily.
If you stay extra time, you have to pay for that extra time. But the lady seems to have seen through his worries and said with a careless laughter, "Don’t worry, Mr. Axel, you don’t need to pay any debt or have a negative credit balance on your magic card."
"You can have as much time as you need in the library daily without needing to pay any extra."
Axel again showed a surprised expression, there was a hint of confusion on his face as well.
The lady gracefully decided to do the explaining, which no one else did.
"Perhaps you are a bit confused by the generosity of the academy towards you?"
Axel nodded towards her, indicating for her to continue explaining. She did,
"Actually, the runecaster who is the most promising in a certain generation always gets such huge benefits from the academy; in fact, all of your peers who are holders of the rune aspect also get such benefits of varying degree, at least those who need it."
"For example, the 5th princess Lumina being a princess does not really need such benefits, she is already quite rich, even if not, her brother has more than enough capability to provide resources for her without too much effort."
"Another reason why Runecasters receive the greatest amount of benefit from the academy is that you already know, which is that Runecasters are the lowest in number. The most promising Alchemists also receive the benefit of their own."
"You see, utility-type aspects in fact give more to the academy in turn than what the academy gives, and since their needs and focuses are also different from the usual, such their special benefits."
"The number of Runecasters and Alchemists among the entire human population is too low, compared to what is necessary."
Axel nodded in understanding, finally, "So, what other benefits would I actually receive?"
The lady stated matter of factly, "50% on all purchases from the academy, and for these types of services, like reading in the library, it is fully free for you. Unless in these types of services, there is the underlying cost for us, in that case it would be 50% as usual."
"If you sell something to the academy, we will also buy it at a price of 50% more."
Axel showed a smile hearing that, it seems his initial assumption of his benefit came from his grandpa’s aura farming, or the impossible level of achievements accomplished by the old man was not the reason behind his benefits. But it’s something quite general in the academy.
He cursed the goddamn original story, for not letting him know such information’s. Though Axel surmised that a large part of that benefit is likely due to him having the Runic Eyes.
Maybe the story did mention these details, but he didn’t remember? Whatever, he shrugged internally and left the place, after thanking the lady librarian respectfully. For now, his plan now was basically like this,
[1] Do not enter his secondary aspect chamber.
[2] Get all the knowledge about forging, and see someone do it.
[3] Hunt monsters and get lots of credits to buy an enormous amount of materials
[4] Buy the materials and equipment to start forging.
[5] With the knowledge of forging acquired, start making the engravings.
This was his initial to-do list for now, he would think what to do afterwards later after completing these things. For the next week or so, he continued visiting the library. After the classes, he would spend the whole day in there. Occasionally, hanging out with Heinz and Vyra, Lumina would join in from time to time as well.
Ken actually did not bother him anymore, for now, he supposed. But it was doubtful what the guy was planning, or when he would discard that facade. After a week of visiting the library daily, he finally felt like he had absorbed all the basic knowledge necessary to know his way around. Now that the theoretical part of it was done, he needed to see it practically.
But he debated internally on whether he should go and gather money first by hunting, or first go and see a practical forging on a forgery of Aurauser or a Saint. Well, both the 4th prince and Valkyrie were great forgers themselves. Well, maybe not yet, but they would become such soon enough. He deliberated whether he would ask a favor of Lucien through Lumina; he was moderately sure they wouldn’t be able to say no if Lumina was the one to do it.
And it would be quite fair, since Lumina loitered around him a lot, and he helped her as much as he could when it came to Runecasting, and he would only help her more surely. When the professor reached the point in their curriculum where he would talk about the actual engraving process and show rune symbol fragmentation practically, he would be able to start the engraving procedure without further delay.
Pushing down his discomfort, he eventually asked Lumina for it,
"Lumina, I think I will need a favor from you. Well, not you exactly, but from your brother?"
The two of them were sipping coffee in an academy restaurant. She showed an interested expression and said with a smile, "Oh, what might that be?"
He fumbled a bit and then said, "Uh, well, you see. I need to see someone forging, you already know that, Runecasters need to know forging themselves to make fully integrated tools, that are fully compatible. As you know that I’m studying information on it."
Lumina chuckled cutely and said, "Why, my brother? I thought you might ask to see Sophia’s forging. She is a much better forger than my brother. Though he is quite good himself."
Axel winced hearing that, "Well, not to be rude, but that woman seems to be too dangerous, I don’t feel safe going near her, to be honest. Every time she looks at me, I feel she is a predator and I am a prey who is being targeted."
But Lumina only looked at him blankly, with no emotion on her face, but Axel could see her mouth twitching involuntarily. Axel said with a frown,
"Hey, you do know that I don’t mean anything bad by that, right?"
Her mouth began twitching harder as she still looked at him blankly, barely holding in her laughter, but suddenly another thought popped into his head as he said with horror,
"She, she’s behind me, isn’t she?"
