Extra's POV: My Obsessive Villainous Fiancee Is The Game's Final Boss-Chapter 448: Final Obstacle
The world froze.
The wind stopped blowing, and the smoke rising from the ruined streets of Carthage hung motionless in the air.
A single spark, caught in mid-flight from the smoldering rubble nearby, glittered like a star trapped in the air.
Ren blinked.
The world had gone utterly silent. Even the sound of his own breathing seemed too loud.
Time itself had stopped.
And standing to the side was a man whose shape refused to stay still.
The Blurred Man.
He stood only a few paces away, the outline of his body flickering in and out of focus, his voice carrying that strange, layered tone that sounded like it came from several versions of him at once.
"You’ve done well," he said softly. "Thorn is alive. He’ll wake on his own when his role demands it."
Ren straightened, his eyes narrowing. Lilith’s knives shimmered into her hands automatically, her soul energy glowing a faint blue.
"What role?" she asked.
The Blurred Man tilted his head. "A greater one. Not here, not now. For now," he glanced at the both of them, "your world needs your help."
Ren narrowed his eyes suspiciously, saying nothing.
The Blurred Man chuckled. "Come on, don’t look at me like that. We’re on the same side here."
"You now hold the only fire that gives us the chance of killing Yggdrasil. Not to mention the only soul capable of tempering it."
His blurred gaze shifted between them. "Tell me, Ren Ross. Do you still intend to kill Yggdrasil and keep this world intact?"
Ren exhaled, his answer already apparent.
He thought of Albion, of the cold streets he’d once called home, of the friends who’d followed him into darkness.
He thought of his family, back at the Ross castle, and those who had died so that he could get here today.
And then he thought of Lilith. Her laughter, her strength, the child growing within her. A life waiting to begin once the war was finally over.
"Yes," he said. "I do."
The Blurred Man nodded once, the distortion around him humming softly. "Good. Then listen carefully."
He raised a hand, and the air rippled again.
A map of pure energy unfolded between them, creating a glowing lattice of light and flame, with two intertwining currents, one gold and one blue.
"The Primordial Flame can kill Yggdrasil," he said. "But not alone. Yes, it is both creation and destruction made one, but to end Yggdrasil, it needs something to bind it."
"Something that can judge it. That something," his gaze flicked to Lilith, "is your soul energy."
Lilith blinked. "My soul energy?"
He nodded. "Soul Dominion. And now that you’re cleansed, you have the most complete form of it. The purest expression of your dominion."
"If Ren infuses the Primordial Flame with your soul energy, it will become something greater. Not just the power to destroy, but the power to end what was never meant to exist."
Ren stepped closer. "What do we need to do?"
The Blurred Man smiled faintly, as if he had been waiting a long time for that question.
"Combine your energies," he said. "The Flame will act as the vessel."
"Lilith, you must focus your soul energy into Ren. Ren, you will draw that energy into the Primordial Flame, fusing it with your Unfettered Enhancement. Together, they will create the weapon that can erase Yggdrasil’s existence."
Lilith nodded immediately. "Let’s do it."
Ren nodded in agreement.
She closed her eyes, her soul energy flaring to life.
The blue glow spread from her chest, pure and radiant, reaching towards him.
Ren extended his hand, the Primordial Flame flickering to life in his palm.
The moment their energies touched, the air around them trembled.
The blue of her soul energy met the gold of the Flame, and for an instant, everything between them was pure light.
The two colors swirled, clashing and melding, until they became something new.
Ren felt the power flood into him, his body shuddering from the intensity.
His Unfettered Enhancement stirred, awakening like a beast called home.
Lilith gasped, but she didn’t pull back. Her hands found his shoulders, grounding him as the power kept filling him.
Finally, it slowed to a stop.
In Ren’s hand now burned a fire unlike any other. A pure, white flame.
He stared at it in awe. "We did it."
"Yes," the Blurred Man said softly. "You did."
Ren looked up. "So what now?"
For the first time, the Blurred Man’s expression shifted, and something solemn flickered across his face.
"Now," he said, "you kill me."
Ren blinked. "What?"
The Blurred Man folded his hands behind his back, his voice calm.
"You cannot strike down Yggdrasil as you are. The Flame may be complete, but you are not. You still depend on control, on restraint. You have not mastered Unfettered Enhancement."
Ren’s brow furrowed. "And killing you will fix that?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because I am your last obstacle."
Silence filled the air.
"There is only one way to train Unfettered Enhancement to the level that would allow you to survive Yggdrasil. And that means fighting to the death."
His blurred form flickered, becoming more defined, more human.
For a moment, Ren thought he saw a faint smile behind the distortion.
"I’ve lived a long time, Ren Ross. Too long. I have seen civilizations rise and vanish like breaths on a mirror. If this is how I end, helping this world begin again, then so be it."
The Blurred Man’s voice softened. "Decide, Ren. Kill me and save the world... or spare me, and doom it."
The silence stretched.
Then Ren’s hand closed around the white flame.
"I don’t want to," he said quietly. "But I will."
He raised his eyes, and his determination could be seen inside. This wouldn’t be enough to stop him.
The Blurred Man nodded, a flicker of pride hidden in the distortion. "Good."
The ground quaked as Ren’s aura expanded, golden fire erupting from his body.
Lilith stepped back, shielding her eyes. The Primordial Flame burned brighter, feeding on his soul and the energy they had forged together.
The Blurred Man’s body became a bit less hazy, and almost solid.
He spread his hands, a big grin on his face. "Come then, Ren Ross. Show me if you are truly ready to be the flame that burns the roots of eternity."
Ren inhaled once. The golden fire swirled around him, forming wings of pure light.
He stepped forward.
And then he attacked.
