Extra's Strategy: Cultivate Protagonists, Become Invincible-Chapter 111: Battle Begins
Chapter 111: Battle Begins
Zhao Weiqing didn’t know whether to feel annoyed or relieved. On one hand, the fact Han Xuhan had based his conclusion around was not the reason why all the cultivators here were under his control.
On the other hand, the conclusion Han Xuhan had reached was absolutely correct. Zhao Weiqing’s main body was still busy refining its spirituality by corrupting the participants of the third challenge. It’d take a while for everyone to come out of the platforms, fully transformed into his vessels.
He had also accurately guessed that Qian Yun, the original owner of this vessel, was no longer in control. Being seen through so easily by a rookie cultivator really didn’t sit right with Zhao Weiqing. It hurt his pride.
"Well, if you’re not going to surrender, then don’t blame me for what happens to you."
Without turning around, he waved a hand at the vessel who had been hiding till now. Feng Jun made his appearance from the direction of the platforms. In his hand, he held a gleaming emerald orb, the fuel for activating the law fragment that had knocked Mu Ran out with a lightning strike.
Recognizing Feng Jun’s blank face from the distance, Han Xuhan’s mouth tightened. It was just as he had suspected. The third test really was suspicious. The drastic change in Qian Yun’s personality was just as absurd as the sheer obedience Feng Jun was showing to his orders.
Luckily, he had noticed the suspicious nature of the tests earlier and evaded whatever trap might have been triggered by an honest performance, or he would be sharing the same fate as Feng Jun now.
Under his observant gaze, Qian Yun exchanged a look with Feng Jun, who nodded as if he had received an order and started circling past the boundary of the law fragments Han Xuhan had buried under the soil.
When he had been creating those law fragments, Han Xuhan hadn’t expected that he would face enemies from multiple directions. Most of his law fragments were directed at the area outside the fog. The few exceptions were just a fail-safe in case any rogue cultivators or zombies appeared from the outer regions of the foggy area unexpectedly.
The weakness of his defense was finally showing now. One couldn’t catch him by directly passing over the law fragments, but they could certainly pass around many of them, avoiding their influence entirely.
His eyes tracking Feng Jun’s silhouette through the fog without a break, Han Xuhan considered whether he should surrender half-seriously.
"You know what, Brother Yun? I thought you’d offer me something along the lines of ’Break off your own limbs and castrate yourself, and I might leave the rest of your corpse intact’. But after considering your terms at a deeper level, I realize now that your offer is a thousand times better than that. Very alluring."
He’s making fun of me again! He’s mocking me again!
Zhao Weiqing wanted to roar in indignation. Who would make threats like that? How retarded would one have to be to come up with that sort of conditions?
But he felt that his outburst might lead to a conversation he would have no control over. He could never predict what type of thoughts revolved in the mind of this crazy asshat.
So he forced out a genial laugh and replied, "Then, are you signing the contract of surrender?"
"Of course not. I just said that to express how I feel about your offer. Don’t take it too seriously," Han Xuhan answered honestly.
"...My patience is limited, as is your time. No one is coming to save you." Zhao Weiqing almost kicked Mu Ran’s unmoving figure in frustration, swerving away at the last second.
"I wouldn’t be so sure about that last bit, though, Brother Yun. Have you noticed the change in the leaderboard just now? You should take a good look."
Han Xuhan’s answer made Zhao Weiqing do a double take. He instantly whipped around to gaze at the platform behind him. The bright virtual leaderboard floating over it hadn’t disappeared yet.
As far as he could remember, there were only two cultivators whose judgment still displayed the ’pending’ status after he had returned from the testing ground. One was Mu Ran, who was now lying down a few feet away, unconscious. The other one was... Xuanyuan Zhou.
Now that he thought about it, he should have known something was up when he had taken his first look at the leaderboard. But back then, he had been distracted by Han Xuhan’s ’exceptional’ result and hadn’t gotten the time to mull over the suspicious coincidence.
Xuanyuan Zhou would be a troublesome cultivator to deal with. Even from where he stood, he could see the silhouettes of her undead army standing still, not far away from the platforms, completely ignoring the ongoing conflict.
"Think about it, Brother Yun. If Xuanyuan Zhou comes out and doesn’t act like your lackey like that Brother Jun who’s crawling in the fog behind me, do you think you’ll be in a good position? You might outnumber me, but her undead army outnumbers all of us. At that time, you’d be lucky to escape this place alive."
While kindly explaining the peril Zhao Weiqing would face once she returned, Han Xuhan took out a pair of knives from an inner pocket of his robe. He had quite a large collection of interesting trinkets like this, either looted or gotten through scavenging.
What he needed the most now was a little bit of time. These trinkets would have to buy him that time.
"Now, the thing is, I might not be able to defeat the two of you once you attack me from two directions," Han Xuhan said in a weak tone.
"But I can definitely waste a lot of time fighting you off, and my martial sister Zhou should definitely return here by that time. After all, both Mu Ran and her tests seem to have followed a similar path." ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
His sentence barely finished, Han Xuhan casually pulled his arm back and suddenly whipped it at Qian Yun.
Zhao Weiqing had long noticed the subtle movements of the knives hidden by Han Xuhan’s sleeves. He instantly sent a mental signal to Feng Jun to attack, while he himself held up a high-grade contract document from his stack of papers.
To destroy the weakest of sentient contracts, one must exert considerable martial strength. The higher the power of a contract, the harder it was to damage it.
Ordinary means of attack were basically useless against such documents. This was one of the most basic principles of sentient contract cultivation techniques.
Han Xuhan, as a cultivator at the second layer of a Mystic Art and zero martial prowess, had absolutely no chance of affecting Zhao Weiqing through this paper shield!
However, the impact he was expecting did not come.
Zhao Weiqing peeked past the document he had shielded himself with and noticed Han Xuhan’s empty hand.
Where did that knife go?
A sharp yelp from afar answered his question.
The knife had never been targeting Zhao Weiqing. The first throwing motion was fake, meant to trigger Zhao Weiqing’s aggression and force him to make Feng Jun attack Han Xuhan from the back.
And when Feng Jun had moved in for an attack from the depths of the fog, Han Xuhan had been waiting to see that very scene, so that he could throw the knife at Feng Jun instead!
