Extra's Strategy: Cultivate Protagonists, Become Invincible-Chapter 95: My Bodyguards Are Pretty Impressive!
Chapter 95: My Bodyguards Are Pretty Impressive!
It was a very familiar voice. But Han Xuhan had to make several leaps of logic and imagination to identify and then justify the sense of familiarity in the voice. The conclusion he arrived at after a few seconds was rather hard to stomach.
"Xuanyuan Zhou? What the hell is she doing here?"
Mu Ran immediately looked at Han Xuhan, who had spoken out in a daze.
Xuanyuan Zhou? Their martial sister from the Salted Fish Mountain Peak?
What in the world-?
"Ah? Attendant Xuhan, It’s really you! I can’t believe we bumped into each other here!" Xuanyuan Zhou exclaimed as she ran into their view from the fog. She was wearing a mask to hide her face, but Mu Ran and Han Xuhan still recognized her easily.
Qian Yun looked back and forth among his confused companions. Were all of these weirdos from the same sect? What kind of sect is it?
Han Xuhan couldn’t believe it either. What were the chances of running into a familiar figure all the way here in a totally different world?
"My lady, how did you end up entering this world fragment?"
Xuanyuan Zhou sighed when she heard his suspicious tone.
"It’s quite a tale. As you’re well aware, I broke through to the second layer of the Physique Transformation realm a few days ago. But the third layer has turned out to contain a small bottleneck for me. Sitting inside a room and cultivating all day wasn’t producing any results."
Han Xuhan only believed a part of it. Xuanyuan Zhou rarely brought up her actual progress in cultivation, and she loved to put inconsistent details in those discussions.
Sometimes, she’d claim to be focusing on Mystic Arts, sometimes she’d say her martial cultivation was higher than her Mystic Arts foundation; sometimes she made it clear that she had high attainments in the Monastic path too.
"So I thought I’d take up a low-level mission to see if I can manage to stumble upon any fortuitous encounter or gain some worldly experience. Perhaps it would let me break through the bottleneck.
"For the mission I chose, I had to travel by boat. While passing the woods next to Pine Town, I noticed several traces of groups of cultivators lurking nearby.
"I thought some sort of heavenly treasure had been found and couldn’t contain my curiosity. So I just followed them in secret.
"That’s how I found myself in this hidden world. By joining a small group of rogue cultivators inside one of the Circles of Laws, I even managed to figure out how to decipher the language there.
"But who knew that the designer of this place would be so black-hearted that they would use some sort of esoteric technique to infiltrate my foundation tower? Hateful bastard!"
Han Xuhan and Mu Ran discreetly exchanged a look. There was nothing wrong with her story. Whether she was lying or not could be easily found out once they returned to the sect.
For now, there was no need to scrutinize the details. They were all from the same sect, after all. They had to stick together here. But there was an issue...
"Martial sister, what’s up with the zombie army you’re commanding?" Mu Ran asked.
None of them had forgotten the nightmarish undeads surrounding them. It wasn’t exactly a forgettable sight. Mu Ran and Qian Yun were still clutching their weapons stiffly.
"I practice a Mystic Art that helps me control intelligent beasts. When I faced these zombies in the fog, I used the technique out of curiosity, and it seemed to work on them too. Since then, I’ve been working to build the biggest, strongest, and fiercest force in this place!"
Seeing the four of them suddenly take a step back in caution, Xuanyuan Zhou sputtered and tried to elaborate on her answer.
"Don’t misunderstand! I’m not going to let it loose on you guys to gain a monopoly over this land. Besides, these corpses were already reanimated and mutated when I found them. I wanted to ensure they wouldn’t threaten innocent lives.
"Moreover, it wouldn’t hurt to use them for self-defense while I’m here, right? I’m just a girl, all by myself out here..."
Her pitiful act fooled nobody. Claiming all that while commanding these monsters? How shameless! freewёbnoνel.com
"My lady’s words make sense. I’d do the same if I was in your shoes," Han Xuhan immediately voiced his opinion like an airhead.
Why would he not?
Xuanyuan Zhou would not harm him for no reason. And by supporting her idea, he would be getting a whole legion of undead soldiers to protect him!
One bodyguard is good. Two are better. But two dozen? Hahahaha!
Welcoming Xuanyuan Zhou to become a part of the team, the four humans, one skeleton, and a legion of undead zombies strutted forward with the highest confidence anyone may have ever had in the history of this ruined world fragment.
Han Xuhan’s original protective gear—the orbs gotten from the stadium, were almost about to run out of power. But by now, they had collected a fair number of the emerald orbs. Activating and fueling law fragments that barred the fog from approaching them was a sustainable task.
The fog was now tens of meters away from them in every direction. They could easily keep a reasonable distance from each other and walk comfortably while gossiping about mundane matters.
Of course, the three of them were careful to not reveal the name of their sect or any similar information to Qian Yun, the outsider.
But Qian Yun himself appeared to be occupied with his own thoughts, a bit too deeply to pay attention to their chitchats.
Like a bouncing rubber ball, Han Xuhan kept moving to and fro among his bodyguards. It was apparent that he had the best social skills among all of them, and the least shame.
First, he shared his experience here so far with his Xuanyuan Zhou, then he introduced her to Qian Yun, then he drew Mu Ran into a conversation...
Strong-arming them into conversing with each other wasn’t actually meaningless. They could have seen through his intentions if they got a glimpse of the darkness in Han Xuhan’s thoughts.
Due to his ever-present paranoia, Han Xuhan was starting to become a bit of a control freak. He needed every element around him moving in a motion by his personal guidance so that he could feel safe and focused.
Because of this habit, he could already sense that he was becoming more and more reckless while trying to keep everything in control.
It wasn’t a good sign, and he understood that he needed some time in the sect’s infirmary to fix his newly acquired quirks. If only the paranoia had not proven itself to be so beneficial....
