Extreme Cold Era: Shelter Don't Keep Waste-Chapter 877 - 106: The Orniopter’s Debut
The research on the Flying Dragon did not occupy much of Perfikot's time.
Although this bizarre patchwork creation indeed sparked her interest and competitive spirit, Perfikot did not obsess over the purely academic study of Flying Dragon's biological traits.
She focused more on practicality, designing an alchemical transformation ritual based on the biological characteristics of the Flying Dragon, which decomposes and transforms the massive number of corpses into usable alchemical materials.
This technology originates from Ancient Alchemy, and it's the core technique Perfikot once used to transform divine corpses into the Godslaying Armor.
However, this time she simplified it considerably, without wasting the original design of the Flying Dragon.
On the basis of the Flying Dragon's twisted biological structure, she deduced a complete mechanical structure and optimized it, eventually arriving at a mechanical creation similar to an ornithopter.
This ornithopter, powered by a steam core, merges the streamlined body of a Flying Dragon with the membrane structure of bat wings, presenting a unique aesthetic that lies between biology and mechanics.
The fuselage is approximately eight meters long, crafted from a biological alloy converted from Flying Dragon skin, covered with bionic scale-like armor, which both reduces weight and enhances compressive strength.
The central fuselage features a circular steam core compartment, with valves and pipelines connected to the steam core providing power, used to regulate the output of steam energy.
The steam core compartment transmits kinetic energy via a set of gear-driven structures to power joints at the base of the wing bones, which consist of high-strength gears and hydraulic devices, capable of simulating the high-frequency vibration of Flying Dragon wings to provide powerful lift and thrust.
The ornithopter's wingspan is about twelve meters, and the wing membranes are made from multilayer composite materials, with embedded scale-like fibers from Flying Dragon's wings, ensuring flexibility and providing high tear resistance.
The wing bones are supported by three main bones, branching into finger-like structures akin to a bat, with a hollow interior filled with lightweight alloy, ensuring a balance between strength and weight.
The tail of the ornithopter is slender and flexible, with a set of adjustable tail fins at the end used to maintain balance and adjust direction during flight.
The surface of the tail fins is covered with the same composite material as the wing membranes, ensuring overall structural harmony.
At the aircraft's nose, there is a triple-barreled rotary cannon fed with ammunition through a belt, the ornithopter's sole defensive weapon.
Perfikot originally intended to mimic the fire-spitting organ of the Flying Dragon, but upon reflection, she realized that while it might be plausible on a biological entity, on an aircraft, it seemed rather foolish.
After careful consideration, Perfikot scraped the original flamethrower design in favor of the current rotary cannon.
This revision not only looked much more pleasant but also proved far more practical.
The flamethrower's range was less than fifty meters, whereas the rotary cannon... my friend, cannons are superb; their bullets can fly at least one thousand two hundred meters in the air.
Perfikot felt satisfied with the design of the ornithopter. Although it was merely something deduced from the Flying Dragon's body structure, this doesn't conceal the brilliance of the design.
Of course, design is design; how the actual production turns out still requires further testing.
Perfikot used the corpse of a large Flying Dragon King individual for the transformation, producing the alchemical materials and parts she needed, and assembled the first ornithopter.
Her eyes scanned every detail of the ornithopter. Confirming everything was correct, she gently patted the armor of scales on the fuselage.
"Start the test," she murmured, her tone carrying a trace of expectation.
The runes inside the steam core compartment began to flicker, as alchemical energy slowly infused into the core.
With a low humming sound, the ornithopter's wing membranes trembled slightly, then gradually unfolded.
The power joints at the base of the wing bones began to operate, with the sound of gears meshing sharply and powerfully. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
The tail of the ornithopter swayed gently, the tail fins adjusted their angle, preparing for takeoff.
"Activate the lift system," Perfikot ordered.
The power generated by the steam core was transmitted through the driving mechanism to the base of the wing bones, causing the wings to vibrate at high frequency, emitting a continuous low roar in the air.
As the vibration accelerated, the ornithopter slowly lifted off the ground, hovering in mid-air.
"Propulsion system normal, lift stable." A tester's voice came through the communicator.
Perfikot nodded, eyes intently following every movement of the ornithopter.
The ornithopter circled in the air, then began to accelerate.
The vibration frequency of the wing membranes gradually increased, and the ornithopter's speed increased accordingly.
Its streamlined body drew a graceful arc in the air, as though a real Flying Dragon was soaring.
"Test the weapon system," Perfikot commanded again.
At the nose of the ornithopter, the triple-barreled rotary cannon slowly rotated, then spat out fiery tongues of flame.
Bullets traced bright trajectories in the air, instantly shattering distant targets.
"Weapon system normal, range and accuracy both meet expectations," the tester reported.
The corners of Perfikot's mouth slightly rose, with a hint of satisfaction in her eyes.
After the test concluded, Perfikot returned to the laboratory to organize the test data.
She found that during high-altitude flight, the power output of the steam core was somewhat unstable.
To address this issue, she decided to optimize the structure of the steam core and add a backup energy system.
Additionally, she planned to equip the ornithopter with a reconnaissance system, using the bionic characteristics of Flying Dragon's sensory organs to enable it to collect information about the surroundings during flight.
These improvements will allow the ornithopter to play a greater role in future battles.
Perfikot quickly embarked on the improvement work for the ornithopter.
She first redesigned the structure of the steam core compartment, enhancing the stability of power output.
Next, she designed a backup energy system, composed of a set of small steam cores, capable of rapidly taking over power supply should the main core fail.
This backup system was cleverly integrated within the fuselage, without affecting the ornithopter's overall structure, while providing additional safety assurance.
The installation of the reconnaissance system was another important improvement made by Perfikot.
Utilizing the bionic properties of Flying Dragon's sensory organs, she designed a sensor network capable of perceiving the surrounding environment.
These sensors were embedded in the wing membranes and tail fins, able to collect data on air currents, temperature, humidity, etc., in real time during flight, and transmit information to the cockpit display screen.
This improvement not only enhanced the ornithopter's reconnaissance ability but also enabled it to better adapt and adjust its flight posture in complex environments.
To further enhance the ornithopter's agility, Perfikot also made fine adjustments to the structure of the wing bones and tail fins.
She increased the adjustable range of the wing bones, allowing the ornithopter to change direction more flexibly during high-speed flight.
The design of the tail fins was also refined, with newly added adjustable angles better maintaining balance during low-speed flight.
These improvements enable the ornithopter's performance in the air to be more outstanding, capable of handling high-speed maneuvers and low-speed circumnavigation with ease.
