Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Do You Like Huo Heng That Much?

The night scenes the next day went on until late, later than Shen Zhiyi had anticipated.

“Another cut, and Huo Heng is still being scolded.”

Xiaodong opened the recently purchased late-night snacks and muttered softly, “It looks like everyone’s in a bad mood. We could have wrapped up an hour ago.”

As a result of Huo Heng’s poor performance, they had been dragged on until now. Initially, Xu Xia had spoken up for him, but now she kept silent, letting him be berated by the director.

Feeling a bit tired, Shen Zhiyi yawned, her eyes also slightly red, “Let’s just wait and see for a while. Have you eaten?”

Xiaodong revealed a smile, “I’ve eaten, you should eat something to fill your stomach quickly.”

It was late at night, and the nearby shops only had barbecue, which was too greasy. Shen Zhiyi wasn’t in the mood for it, so after a few bites, she put it down. After a moment’s thought, she messaged the housekeeper to ask if Pei Yu had gone to bed.

It wasn’t that she was self-centered enough to think that Pei Yu would definitely wait for her, especially since she had mentioned she wouldn’t return to Huating tonight. It was just a sudden whim to ask.

The housekeeper replied promptly, saying that Pei Yu hadn’t returned to Huating either today.

Probably busy?

Shen Zhiyi didn’t dwell on this, as Huo Heng was scolded a few times but finally managed to get through his solo part. When she arrived, the director’s face was still unpleased, but he softened his tone slightly for her.

“We’ll wrap up after we finish this one scene.”

Once this scene was done, Shen Zhiyi would have also finished all her parts in this drama.

After a few days without any joint scenes, the look in Huo Heng’s eyes when he saw her was complex. These days hadn’t been good for him; losing fans to black fans was a minor issue. The main problem was that he had inexplicably lost several luxury brand endorsements. Though it was announced as contract expiration, he knew he had been sabotaged. At events, he was even directly mocked by another actor with whom he’d had a previous conflict, completely losing face.

And all of this was because of Shen Zhiyi.

Huo Heng had never imagined Shen Zhiyi would do this to him.

“Huo Heng, what are you spacing out for? Say your lines!”

The director’s irritable voice came over, his patience nearly exhausted. Perhaps because the film itself was intense, with the male lead expressing hatred, Huo Heng didn’t get stuck as much as before, and after two takes, the crew could finally wrap up.

But as Huo Heng walked over to the director, he heard him talking to the scriptwriter, “Luckily we have Shen Zhiyi to lead him on, otherwise Huo Heng’s emotions wouldn’t have come out so smoothly. Directing him is really troublesome.”

He clenched his fists unconsciously, his gaze turning dark.

Shen Zhiyi, always Shen Zhiyi. Why had everyone suddenly become so fond of Shen Zhiyi?

As the crew wrapped up, Shen Zhiyi was driven back to her temporary residence by her assistant. The apartment, which was newly rented and seldom used, was just about to open the door when a sound of footsteps came from behind.

It was actually Huo Heng.

Her brows furrowed, “What are you doing here?”

Huo Heng: “I have something to ask you.”

He took a puff of his cigarette, looking despondent, “Do you hate me so much that you have to get people to mess with me?”

Nonsense.

Shen Zhiyi, with a cold expression, proceeded to enter without paying him any attention. The lock beeped twice, when a soft female voice suddenly echoed in the corridor.

“Huo Heng, don’t talk to that slut. I’ll help you teach her a lesson.”

The corridor was fitted with motion-activated lights, which only came on after that voice spoke. Huo Heng looked at the woman who suddenly ran over and hugged his arm with a horrified expression, instinctively flinging her away fiercely, “Who are you!”

He immediately reacted with extreme disgust, “A stalker? You’re the one who has been following me these days?”

The woman staggered a few steps from being pushed away, and seeing his undisguised disgust, she started to convulse neurotically, “How can you treat me like this?”

Sensing trouble, Shen Zhiyi quietly sent a message to Xiaodong to call the police and then attempted to unlock the door to enter the house. However, the fingerprint lock failed repeatedly. As she tried to input the password, the woman’s sanity completely shattered.

She growled lowly and pounced on Huo Heng, a gleam of cold light flashing in the palm of her hand in an instant, but Huo Heng was utterly unaware, intending to push her away again with a face full of loathing.

“Huo Heng, dodge!”

Seeing that chilling knife tip, Shen Zhiyi’s fingers spasmed uncontrollably, the bone-deep fear from her youth flooding back over her body as she rushed towards Huo Heng instinctively, her mind a complete blank.

Before Huo Heng could realize the danger, Shen Zhiyi had already pushed him back several steps. He turned in confusion, only to see blood slowly seeping from Shen Zhiyi’s shoulder.

“Zhiyi—” His hands trembled nonstop, and he couldn’t move a step, watching helplessly as the knife-wielding madwoman, with a face full of resentment, advanced toward Shen Zhiyi.

“Again with you, this cheap woman, why do you have to seduce Huo Heng? Why do you have to harm Huo Heng?”

Communicating with the madwoman was utterly futile. Shen Zhiyi bit down hard on her teeth and slowly moved backwards, “Huo Heng—”

What are you still standing there for!

“Don’t call his name, you’re not worthy!”

The woman, as if provoked, lunged forward. In Shen Zhiyi’s blurrying vision, she saw the woman’s expansive movements suddenly come to a halt, yanked aside by a powerful force with a fierce toss!

Her vision was a bit fuzzy until someone gently touched her face.

It was Pei Yu.

What was Pei Yu doing here?

Under the cold overhead light, Pei Yu’s face was grim, his fingertips lightly touching her cheek before dropping away. Shen Zhiyi couldn’t see his expression but felt herself being lifted.

She was carried forward, each step firm and strong. In a daze, it felt like returning to the summer of her thirteenth year when her drunken father swung a knife at her, and she was rescued from her home in the same way by Huo Heng.

When she woke up again, she was in a hospital.

Secretary Qin was at her bedside and went out when she awoke. Soon after, Pei Yu came in. He was dressed as usual, except his jacket was off and his shirt noticeably wrinkled. His cold, pale face was expressionless, his pupils pitch black.

He silently watched the doctor check on Shen Zhiyi, watched people come and go from the hospital room, his demeanor so cold it was chilling, to the point where even Secretary Qin dared not say much.

Shen Zhiyi felt inexplicably uneasy, “Mr. Pei?”

Her shoulder wound wasn’t severe, and the primary reason for her lengthy unconsciousness was the extreme fright that had trapped her with nightmares of the past. Now that she had come around, she felt relatively good.

Yet Pei Yu looked more like the one who was gravely injured.

Pei Yu stood still for a few seconds, only approaching when she called out again. He stood by the bed, looking down at her from above with piercing eyes, as if he wanted to dissect her heart and see who exactly was inside.

He carried a strong smell of smoke, and when he finally spoke, his voice was raspy and deep, like it had been scorched by smoke, “Do you like him that much?”

So much that you would even take a knife for him.

Wasn’t she afraid of knives, pain, and injury? Could it be that just because it was Huo Heng, she was willing to endure the pain rather than let him get hurt?

She would never know that at the moment she threw herself in front of Huo Heng to take the knife, Pei Yu’s heart was also pierced by an invisible blade, causing him pain so intense he couldn’t breathe.
