Chapter 99: Chapter 88: True Lord

Standing outside the wide-open door, the inside of the hall presented a blurry image. πšπ«πšŽπ—²π•¨πžπ›π•Ÿπš˜π―πšŽπ—Ή.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Taisui still wished to ask more, but the Dream-eating Ghost stepped into this layer of barrier first.

Taisui followed closely, the sword-like brightness initially made it somewhat difficult to open its eyes.

After adjusting, Taisui looked inward, revealing the true form of the grand hall: immense like a plaza, these white-glowing stone bricks paved the floor and walls, with black and unknown lines penetrating between them, resembling a giant spider web, at the center of which lay a solemn and silent black coffin.

Thus, all eyes converged upon the black coffin, a feeling of unprecedented desire to submit surged to Taisui’s heart, akin to a guilty minister bowing before the monarch.

Notably, this black coffin had already been opened, the lid only half-covered.

"Did something else come here?" Taisui asked, trembling.

"Yes."

The Dream-eating Ghost responded briefly to Taisui, the whirlpool on its torso ceased flowing for the first time, and for the first time, Taisui witnessed a look of confusion and perplexity in the eye-like lights of the Dream-eating Ghost.

"But... who else could have come here?"

With Taisui’s short life and shallow experience, it couldn’t imagine other beings reaching this place.

"I don’t know. Apart from Taisui as the Key of Divine Awakening, no other creature can pass safely through the Pillar of Evil Spirits."

Upon hearing this, Taisui suddenly remembered those weathered, toppled stone pillars outside, a terrifying speculation surfaced.

It had thought the appearance of those stone pillars was due to the passage of time, completely overlooking the possibility of intentional destruction.

The Dream-eating Ghost did not linger; it continued along the eerie black lines on the ground, heading toward the solemn divine coffin.

Taisui hesitated, then followed.

As they neared the coffin, the Dream-eating Ghost’s movements slowed, as if enduring great pressure. Taisui watched in surprise, feeling light as a feather, encountering no resistance.

After a difficult trek, the two evils finally approached the black coffin, with slow steps, trembling as they leaned over and looked inside...

Empty.

Taisui looked at the Dream-eating Ghost in shock, only to find the light spheres of the Dream-eating Ghost’s eyes at this moment had turned pitch black, its eight wandering tentacles as limp as dead fish.

It took a long while before the Dream-eating Ghost returned to normal, then the brightness in its eyes had dimmed considerably.

"What’s wrong with you?"

The Dream-eating Ghost didn’t answer; instead, it extended a tentacle, placing it atop Taisui’s head.

Torrential images flowed into Taisui’s consciousness via the tentacle, its six fish eyes widened further, and after the initial panic and terror, it surprisingly felt a sliver of relief, a sliver of calm.

If it couldn’t escape the destined fate of being devoured by Taisui, then being consumed by him would be the best outcome.

The tentacle retracted, then gathered with others placed before the whirlpool, catching the expelled You Su and Ji Lingruo. They both still slumbered deeply.

It extended two tentacles to lift the coffin lid, and upon contact, the sound of "sizzling" filled the air as flesh burned. It was not qualified to touch the sacred object, yet the Dream-eating Ghost forcibly pushed the lid down at the cost of two tentacles being burnt off, revealing the complete divine coffin.

It gently held You Su, carefully placing him into the black coffin. The youth, covered in wounds and bloodstains, looked much like a real corpse, his faint breathing vanished completely after being placed inside the black coffin.

"What... what happened to him?"

"He isn’t dead. This is a coffin made of the Stone of Cessation, which will absorb his life force to preserve it. This black blood is the life once shed by the True Lord. Only you can reverse the flow of this blood back into his body."

Only then did Taisui notice the eerie black lines on the floor also began to move, even the black covering the black coffin started to flow, adhering to You Su’s body like a living creature.

At that moment, the entire palace began to shake violently, as if the earth was venting its fury.

Taisui was bewildered, while the Dream-eating Ghost gazed outside, a voice echoed in Taisui’s Sea of Consciousness:

"Complete the ritual quickly, it is your mission. Do not fear death, for we will never truly die."

Then the Dream-eating Ghost set Ji Lingruo down and began heading toward the hall’s exit.

"Where are you going?"

"Lord Buwu intends to disrupt the ritual; I’m going to stop it."

Taisui watched in a daze as the Dream-eating Ghost vanished beyond the doorway’s barrier. Despite the Dream-eating Ghost’s words of "we will never truly die," and despite its past yearning for death, the inevitable dread at the moment of facing death was unavoidable.

It clung to the coffin board, unaffected by the Stone of Cessation.

Its six fish eyes fixed on You Su, hesitating as it reached out to touch You Su’s face, only to halt, frightened. It recalled the moment it pretended to confess to You Su, realizing You Su wasn’t afraid of its hand. Gaining courage, it reached out, only to be interrupted by an abrupt voice.

"Don’t touch!"

The owner of the cold voice was Ji Lingruo.

She glared with fury and hatred at the bizarre creature.

The instant she shouted, Taisui withdrew its hand like a cat caught stealing fish.

"You’re awake..."

"What exactly are you trying to do!"

Ji Lingruo’s chest heaved like an enraged lioness. At this point, this evil dared to use a voice like her own, making her feel disgusted.

Taisui was frightened by the girl’s angry tone, struggling to respond; it shifted its six fish eyes from Ji Lingruo back to You Su, murmuring:

"I’m sorry..."

Ji Lingruo was momentarily disarmed by the apology, surprised that an evil spirit would apologize...as if it weren’t an evil spirit, but someone capable of emotions.

Ji Lingruo exhaled deeply, saying, "I don’t care what you’re planning, right now, immediately, send us back!"

Her voice was fierce, driven by the will to save her senior brother despite facing a force she couldn’t oppose.

Upon hearing this, Taisui gently shook its head:

"It’s not possible yet, your senior brother is on the brink of death."

This made Ji Lingruo’s heart turn cold; she finally noticed You Su lying in the coffin, his face pale, skin marred completely. What was more terrifying was the blackness from the coffin seeping into his body, dyeing his veins black. But this blackness halted, and Ji Lingruo knew that only dead blood doesn’t flow.

"How could this... How could this happen!" Ji Lingruo forgot her anger, collapsing to the ground, surrounded by an ocean of sorrow, her tears unstirred.

From start to finish, she felt like an ineffectual burden, unable to aid You Su, always under his protection. She hid within You Su’s consciousness, listening as he recounted his struggle against Mr. Ling to the creature impersonating her. She realized the extent of You Su’s undertakings to shield her, blind even to her own evil affliction.

She loathed her own helplessness, eyes devoid of light, filled with infinite emptiness.

"Don’t give up, you can still save him."

That voice identical to her own stirred her awake.
