Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna-Chapter 106: "Accident"
In the end, the Alpha never told Viola the story behind his feud with her former pack. After his laughter had finally subsided, he had pointed out her mistakes in the words she had spoken, telling her that until she reached a stage where she could communicate with him fluently in the language, he would not reveal the story.
Viola had been frustrated, because she didn’t see what the big deal was in him telling her, and from what she had learned from her former pack members, it had been a petty incident that caused the feud. If it was so petty, then why was he holding back the information?
But knowing that her curiosity to hear the details from him would become another driving force to make her focus on her language learning before the ceremony, she had given him a curt nod and said, "Fine, I will master it, and you will tell me everything."
"Deal. You will have the detailed history of my feud with them, but for now, focus on your learning," Sebastian had told her. He didn’t want her to be talked about or plotted against in a language she couldn’t understand, especially not in her own presence. If she wanted to have full control as Luna, she couldn’t afford to give anyone a reason to claim she wasn’t truly one of them. And as his wife and Luna, it was only natural that she understand his native tongue.
Hence, no matter how much he didn’t like talking about his history, he would have to tell her some day to keep this deal.
Viola had once asked Zoe, and Zoe had told her she didn’t know the details either, because she had been a little girl when it happened and nobody talked about it anymore, as it upset the Alpha. The only person who could tell her was the Alpha himself, which was why she had asked him. In the end, she hadn’t received any satisfactory story, only a stomach ache from laughing so hard that her lungs felt like they might burst.
Viola couldn’t recall the last time she had laughed like that. In fact, she wasn’t the type to laugh loudly, as she had been taught to be refined like a Luna; even if she found something funny, she was expected to chuckle softly behind her palm. However, the Alpha’s laugh had been so contagious that she couldn’t help herself. Did he always laugh like that?
Unknown to her this was his first time laughing this hard as well.
Actually, she also noticed that the Alpha was behaving differently here than in the Silver City, where he always carried a very cold expression, as if the world owed him money. But here, his expression was relaxed, to the point that he had even laughed that much.
Now that she knew he would only tell her the story behind him and her former pack after she learned to speak Spanish better, Viola sat in his living room going through her language app as she waited for him to come and take her back to the pack city.
She had wanted to leave by asking the driver to take her back, as his Beta had suggested yesterday, but the Alpha had told her he was also going back to the city, and there was no need for her to take another car when they could go in his.
He had asked her to give him a few minutes to take a shower and change. That was why she was now sitting, legs tucked on the sofa in his beautiful living room, the flat-screen TV showing a news channel on mute as she browsed through her phone and worked on her language app.
She had so much to do once she returned to her penthouse that thinking about it made her anxious. She would be reaching out to the orphanage for her sister, and the thought made her stomach turn, threatening to bring back the breakfast she had eaten and unexpectedly enjoyed more than any meal she’d ever had.
Not wanting to feel sick at the thought of calling the orphanage, she’d choose to distract herself by learning for now. But her brows soon pulled together as she recalled she had left her purse in Sebastian’s room. Knowing that once he came down they would be leaving, she decided to go up and get her purse and shoes, as she had been wearing his around the house.
Because he hadn’t looked upset nor ordered her to take them off, she hadn’t. They might be big, but they were far more comfortable than her high heels.
She slipped her feet back into the large shoes sitting beside the sofa, where she had taken them off to tuck her legs beneath her, and made her way toward his room.
The mansion was so big that one could easily get lost, but she had memorized her path from coming down for breakfast earlier and retraced her steps now.
As she climbed the stairs, dragging the big shoes on her feet, her phone began to ring in her hand. She was looking down at it to see who was calling, not watching where she was going, when she suddenly collided with someone, the force sending the other person falling. Viola quickly reached out and grabbed the person’s wrist before they could tumble down the staircase, dropping her phone in the process, where it crashed to the floor face down, its screen shattering.
The sight of her first phone in four years breaking made her heart tighten. She looked up at the person she had collided with, only to see that it was none other than Angela, the bitter omega she had hoped never to see again.
Viola didn’t need to be told to know that the girl had crashed into her on purpose. Angela had been descending while Viola was ascending the stairs, and while Viola stood on the step looking down at her phone, Angela had been looking straight ahead, clearly seeing her there.
Nonetheless, Viola pulled the girl back up to steady her so she wouldn’t fall. But Angela did something utterly unexpected that made Viola gasped in shock.
Rather than standing back on her feet as Viola had guided her, she purposely threw herself off the rest of the stairs she wasn’t standing properly on, making it seem as though Viola had pushed her as she tumbled and cried out, hitting her elbow and head before finally stopping at the stair landing, bruised and in tears.
"Ahh! I broke my arm. Wh-why did you push me?" Angela cried, looking up at Viola with tears streaming down her beautiful rosy cheeks. "I-i didn’t do anything to you..."
Viola watched with a look of mild surprise as it instantly became clear to her what Angela was up to when she began to cry. All the workers in the house started to gather below the stairs, looking horrified and casting accusing glances at Viola, as if she were a witch who had harmed an innocent flower.
Viola’s brows twitched upward. She was somewhat familiar with such scenes, because she had done the same many times to gain Evan’s attention when she noticed him giving it to another woman. She would hurt herself, sometimes even cutting her own wrist, just to appear pitiful and draw his focus back to her, or to blame it on another victim so she could watch Evan punish them and feel important to him again, just to be assured that he was still hers and no other woman could take him from her.
Viola knew she had committed many terrible deeds in the past. She had been cruel, and karma had caught up with her, punishing her in the worst possible way. She had suffered double the humiliation she had inflicted on others, but she never imagined she would face this again, that she would have to be the victim of a game similar to the one she had played on she-wolves she marked as her rivals.
She almost laughed bitterly as the saying "what goes around comes around" played through her mind. So Angela was indeed exactly what Viola had thought her to be. She had something going on with the Alpha and felt threatened by her.
Viola calmly bent down and picked up her broken phone. Turning it around in her palm and seeing the shattered screen, her expression darkened slightly. It’s broken...
The maids, noticing her expression and how unapologetic she appeared for pushing Angela, couldn’t help but think of her as the worst kind of person.
Though many of them didn’t actually like Angela, as she liked to flaunt how she was the Alpha’s favorite in the house, showing off the jewelry he had given her, as well as expensive dresses, makeup kits, and skincare, they still sucked up to her whenever she handed them old things she no longer used, which they considered treasures.
"Are you all right, Angela? Your elbows are bleeding!" several of them rushed to her, cowering as Angela trembled, her body shaking while she looked up at Viola with a fearful expression. "S-she pushed me..."
