Chapter 122: Stunned speechless

~Silver Pack~

Light drizzling rain was falling that morning, and a pink, luxurious car stopped before the high-tower skyscraper. The car belonged to none other than Zoe, who had stayed at her own fashion house to finish Viola’s design and make it the best it could possibly be. She hadn’t slept a wink, and it clearly showed on her beautiful, delicate face.

She put on shades to hide the dark circles around her eyes and stepped out of her car, taking the umbrella from the warrior her brother had assigned to her for protection since she was a little girl whenever she wasn’t inside this building.

Sebastian was so protective that he never allowed her to leave the pack building to live alone without bodyguards, who were top warriors with honed senses capable of detecting danger from miles away. Their wolf forms were so terrifying that even she felt intimidated by them. She had once been against having these large, imposing warriors around her every single day, but over time Zoe had grown used to their presence, so much so that she now felt strangely unsafe without them nearby.

She muttered a thank you to the bulky warrior as he took the suitcase out of her trunk, which contained the sample wedding dress she wanted Viola to try on.

She took hold of the suitcase handle and made her way toward the building entrance, humming happily to herself as she couldn’t wait for Viola to try on the dress. Though it wasn’t completely finished, she needed a fitting sample to avoid any wrong measurements later.

The cold breeze of the spring morning blew at her hair and sprinkled rainwater onto her face, but Zoe only brushed her hair away, smiling as she waved at the working omegas who were all familiar with her and knew her as the most friendly person in the pack.

Many still found it hard to believe she and the Alpha were siblings from how different they were, and if it wasn’t for their slight resemblance, people would have already begun spreading rumors that they didn’t come from the same parents.

Zoe waved off an omega who rushed forward to relieve her of the umbrella and suitcase and stepped into the elevator instead. She looked down at her phone screen to see if Viola had called her back, but there was no missed call, and that brought a slight frown to her beautiful face.

Since that morning, she had been calling Viola to tell her the time she would come over, but the phone had rung repeatedly without being picked up. This was so very unlike her Vee, and Zoe bit down on her nails, wondering why she hadn’t answered or called her back. She couldn’t still be asleep by this time of the morning, because that was definitely unlike Vee, who woke up even before the sky brightened.

When the elevator reached Viola’s floor, Zoe dragged the suitcase across the smooth, polished floor. When she reached the door, she placed the umbrella aside and typed in the passcode, already bending to pick up her umbrella again as she expected the door to open, but she was met with a red light and the signal that indicated she had typed in the wrong password.

Zoe’s brows arched, and she pursed her lips before retyping the password, but it gave off the same result, wrong.

"What the... did Vee change her password?" she muttered to herself, blinking at the screen that was now signaling that if she typed the wrong password a third time, it would trigger an alarm and summon the building guards.

All the doors in this building were designed to keep any werewolf staying there safe; there was no way for an intruder to enter easily, and the last thing Zoe wanted was to accidentally set off an alarm on Viola’s floor.

She thought to call Viola again, but just like that morning, it rang repeatedly with no answer. It was way past 11 a.m., and Viola could definitely not be sleeping at this time of day. It had never happened before, because every time Zoe came here in the morning, no matter how early, Vee was awake and had already taken her morning shower.

She suddenly felt worry crawl into her chest and knocked on the door, but even that didn’t seem to work. Zoe hated situations like this because they only reminded her of how easily someone she cared about could be killed, and she would never be able to reach them or have the power to prevent it.

Those dark days she had gone through when she lost her brother, she could never forget them. After she had been told over the phone by Sebastian that Alex was in a peaceful place, death, she had run to his place and knocked on the door repeatedly, but Alex never came to open it for her.

Zoe’s heart tightened painfully, and she quickly began to contemplate raising the alarm, but then something flashed inside her mind and her gray eyes brightened. When Viola had set her first password, Zoe had been there, and Vee had made her scan her fingerprint along with hers in case she ever forgot the password, which Zoe had thought was impossible because it was bluntly simple.

Zoe quickly tapped the fingerprint option on the screen, and her five fingers were soon scanned. Though it only took seconds to complete, it felt as though it was taking forever. When the door finally clicked open, she grabbed her suitcase, forgetting the umbrella entirely, and hurried inside.

When Zoe stepped into the penthouse, she was stunned to find the kitchen counter filled with parcels of food taken out from the fridge but left completely untouched. She frowned when she saw the microwave left open, with one of the food parcels sitting inside it as if it had been forgotten mid-use. Not to mention the curtains around the glass walls were all still drawn and not yet opened.

She walked into the living room and found Vee’s phone lying on the couch, and it dawned on her why she hadn’t picked up any calls. This was the first time she had ever come here to find Viola’s kitchen slightly messy, and it made her worry even more because that was another unusual habit of her friend.

She looked up toward the glass stair railing and noticed that the bedroom door upstairs was closed. Was she still sleeping? Or had she... 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Zoe didn’t even want to think about the second possibility, so she quickly took off her heels and hurried up the stairs to check the bedroom, already prepared to sound the alarm for a missing person if needed.

Zoe had imagined all kinds of scenarios in her head as she ran up. She had even gone as far as imagining that she would walk into that bedroom and find a blood-stained bed and her friend’s lifeless body, or worse, an empty bed with her completely missing. But nothing in this world prepared her for what she found when she arrived at the door. She froze, her gray eyes widening in astonishment.

Zoe couldn’t believe her eyes. She blinked a few times in hopes that the image would change, but everything remained exactly the same. Vee was on her bed, but that wasn’t what stunned her. It was the fact that she wasn’t alone. She was entangled in the arms of someone else, because Zoe could clearly see the outline of two figures on the bed.

The bedroom was dark, so dim that if she didn’t have sharp werewolf eyes, she wouldn’t have been able to see anything at all. The thick curtains were fully drawn across the windows, making the room feel as though it were still the middle of the night.

Zoe let her eyes adjust further to the darkness before she tiptoed into the room. As she came closer to the bed, her jaw fell slack in disbelief when her gaze landed on the tattooed arm of none other than her brother, wrapped protectively around Vee’s waist above the blanket.

The blanket covered half of his body but all of her friend’s body, with only her head peeking out from beneath it. Even her head was resting on her brother’s other arm, which was curved around her protectively, his fingers flattened gently over the back of her head, keeping her face tucked securely into his chest.
