Chapter 137: The reason behind her condition

Sebastian video called the doctor in his office, watching the hologram screen show the ringing as he propped his elbow against the surface of his desk to support his chin while he waited impatiently. π˜§π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘’π˜Έπ˜¦π˜£π‘›π‘œπ˜·π‘’π“.π˜€π˜°π“‚

After a couple of rings, it was finally picked up and a young, handsome man in the blue jacket that the healers of Silver Pack wear came on the screen, his dark eyes brightening as he saw the Alpha, and he bowed in greeting.

"Supreme Alpha!" Doctor Gilbert who was the head doctor of the pack and was known to be an expert as he had grown up with his healer mother, who was a sister to one of the elders, greeted with respect.

"Is everything all right, Alpha?" Doctor Gilbert questioned, raising his head after the Alpha’s acknowledgment of his greeting. He had actually asked that question because the Alpha rarely reached out to him except when something was wrong with his sister, whom he had treated and monitored for years to heal her wolf, which was still in the process of healing. Had something happened to Zoe?

Sebastian could see the question in the doctor’s dark eyes, and before he would think he had called because of Zoe, Sebastian told him nonchalantly, "I didn’t call you because of my sister. Zoe is doing fine and living her life perfectly with the supplements you gave her, and I believe her wolf’s presence is more noticeable every day than it was years ago."

Gilbert let out a breath of relief, as just like every doctor, he didn’t want to hear the news that his patient wasn’t healing from his treatments. Now that he was certain the Alpha hadn’t called him for Zoe, the doctor looked at his screen waiting to hear the reason for this call, but for some unknown reason, he thought the Alpha, who never hesitated or seemed reluctant, was actually hesitant to speak.

Finally, after a moment of careful thinking on how to phrase his questions without letting it be known he was asking on behalf of Viola, Sebastian parted his lips and said, "I believe Zoe called you this morning for a bottle of a supplement?"

The doctor nodded, a big smile on his face revealing a white set of beautiful teeth that would dazzle a woman. "Yes, she did. She said it was for a friend, I believe."

"Good. I am calling because of that friend. Zoe wants me to confirm some important matters regarding her." Sebastian said without a change in his blank, cold eyes, eyes that many couldn’t meet, as it was like looking into an empty winter landscape without trees nor anything uplifting, but an emptiness that repelled one from looking into them, lest they felt the chills.

However, a certain someone had started to become an exception and could see another side of those eyes, another side he didn’t show to others.

Doctor Gilbert nodded again, not thinking too much into it as everyone knew the Alpha pampered his sister and asking questions on her behalf wasn’t unusual.

"What is wrong with this friend of hers? Did she also have an injured wolf spirit and is she unable to shift?" He questioned, as those were the usual cases like Zoe’s, whose wolf spirit had gone silent and she was unable to shift.

"I can’t say if that is what is wrong with her. From what I have gathered, she hasn’t shifted since she turned the age of awakening her wolf. She didn’t get a wolf." Sebastian said, looking at the doctor’s thoughtful face.

"Maybe she is a late bloomer. Late bloomersβ€”"

"She is not. Late bloomers get their wolf no more than a year or two after their awakening and they have a subtle wolf scent on them. She doesn’t. The only scents she carries are her essence and then her pheromones, which needed concealing because of how strong it is." Sebastian explained, not caring if the doctor put two and two together and figured out who he was talking about.

She was going to be his wife anyway, and it wasn’t so unusual that he would be curious about someone he was going to marry.

"Oh, that is a completely different and a very rare case then." The doctor said carefully, "To be honest, I do believe such cases are rare to come by and it only happens once in a blue moon. I have never personally treated someone who turns out wolfless but still carries a pheromone. The most common cases were weak wolves who can’t shift, but you still sense the wolf’s presence when they are close."

Sebastian frowned, removing his hand from his chin and clasping it together with his other hand on the desk as he asked narrowly, "Are you telling me there is no chance of you knowing what causes such a case?"

He had hoped the doctor would know, as he was someone who treated werewolves regularly, though even Sebastian himself was already aware that wolfless people were hard to come by and that Viola’s case was particularly rare given that there was no wolf presence at all in her. He had hoped that speaking with the doctor would help him find some answers. Now that he was aware she could be the one he had been looking for, only the awakening of her wolf could confirm it one hundred percent.

"I am saying I have never treated such a case, but I have heard that my father has, in the last generation. Give me a second to look through the records," the doctor said as he reached out for his glass tablet and then went through it for some time before his eyes brightened and he looked back at the screen.

"Thankfully we keep records, here it is, my father has indeed treated a wolfless before. The record says many things about what might have been the factor of her wolf not awakening," the doctor said as he sent the record file on the screen for Sebastian to see.

"It was said the factor behind being wolfless can be many things. Medically, it could be because the person’s parents turned out to be a human and an omega, which results in a wolfless child with a pheromone. And secondly, it could be that the wolf is chained away by trauma, trauma has the power to chain down a wolf and let it remain hidden. And then lastly..." Doctor Gilbert chuckled, "This is an old belief, but as you can see, it could also happen when the wolf is spiritually locked away."

That second and the last part caught Sebastian’s interest more than the first option, for he wanted to believe that Viola was the one. If he accepted the fact that her real parents might indeed be a human and an omega, then there was absolutely no chance of her being the one, and him getting this close to her and getting attached would be nothing but carving a way to break him when she would finally die like the rest.

He was looking for a confirmation that this curse would end in this generation and that Viola was the one who would last. More than the fact that he liked the woman, Sebastian also wanted to be free from his chains, chains that brought nothing but death.

Viola had so much trauma that he couldn’t help but think it might also be a factor, but if it were only the trauma, one was still supposed to be able to sense the wolf...

"Let’s hear more on the spiritual side. How does it happen? How can a wolf be locked away?" Sebastian asked curiously.

"Easy, magic. I don’t think there are people who still practice such a thing since you have banned the act, but a witch’s magic is one of the ways to lock a wolf and never allow it to wake up. It will keep the wolf sleeping for eternity."

Sebastian scowled at that information. Why would anyone want to keep her wolf locked up, if that was the case? She had been in the orphanage for some time before her adoption, were the Lindens behind it, or was it the orphanage where she told him killed children?
